How to change the language

Hi! Are you looking for the Malayalam wikipedia page or are you asking about translating articles there into English? Orville1974 (talk) 00:27, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hire someone to write about my organisation

edit

Hi, I want to hire some member of wikipidia to write an article for me on wikipidia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Attornist (talkcontribs) 01:01, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Attornist: That's not something you can use Wikipedia to do, you will need to do so elsewhere. I would also urge you to proceed carefully and not immediately hand over any money. Anyone you hire cannot make any guarantees(such as guaranteeing they will write an article that will not be deleted). They will also need to declare their association with you and that you are paying them per the conflict of interest and paid editing policies.
Also note that you would only merit an article on Wikipedia if you meet the notability criteria for biographies; there are also more specific criteria for certain professions(politicians, athletes, musicians, etc.). This is not social media where everyone can have a page. 331dot (talk) 01:11, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Every politician who has competently completed an election on any level at least once can have an undeletable page, though. Anybody struggling for in-depth independent coverage but legitimately interesting or useful to general audiences might consider winning some small seat. Could resign immediately, if governance isn't appealing. You'd still need sources for your content, but your name would last forever. InedibleHulk (talk) 02:15, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
As the others have indicated, Attornist, that is a bad idea. If Wikipedia has an article about your organisation, it will not be your article (or your organisation's), it will not say what you want it to say, and you will have no control over the content. If you're looking for a way to increase your online presence, Wikipedia is emphatically not the place to do it.
As for hiring: paid editing is not forbidden, but it is set about with restrictions, and many editors (myself included) look on it with suspicion. A Wikipedia article should be written for the benefit of Wikipedia, and absolutely nobody and nothing else. --ColinFine (talk) 09:23, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

References

edit

  Helped
I have provided references on Talk page of Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil. Now, editors can look those references (from reliable sources) and can make possible edits. Thanks. (223.230.169.20 (talk) 01:18, 17 June 2019 (UTC))[reply]

Hi! Thank you for leaving the reference details on the article's talk page. Please follow up with the editors there since there are quite a few who have been involved with helping you who are already following the conversation on that page. Orville1974 (talk) 01:38, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Definition of fascism

edit

Curious why definition of fascism contains " right wing?" Authoritarian, totalitarian governments can be left or right. Please update since locked and cannot edit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.18.44.230 (talk) 01:31, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Please leave a request on the talk page of the article (you can get to it by clicking on the Talk tab at the top of the article), along with a reliable source WP:RS that mentions left wing fascism. Thank you! Orville1974 (talk) 01:40, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No. This has many been discussed many times and a minority source will not change the consensus. See the red box at top of Talk:Fascism. Of course authoritarian, totalitarian governments can be left wing, but the term fascim indicates right wing. Some people use it as a general slur but Wikipedia gives the political meaning. How to see your View History

edit

Helllo, I want to see my page history (Pages I viewed in Wikipedia) I don't know how to tdo it Can you show me?

RobloxFanEditor (talk) 07:50, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@RobloxFanEditor: Wikipedia does not have this feature but your browser may store your browsing history. It requires that you used the same browser on the same computer, that the browser has the feature, and that you don't have browser settings to delete the history. It may still be limited how far back the history is stored. What is your browser? PrimeHunter (talk) 08:09, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia does not keep a record of the pages that you viewed, but the list of your contributions (the pages you have edited) is here. Dbfirs 08:09, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Murali Kumar (dubbing artist)

edit

I have small doubt. If we have many celebritities for same named as Karthik for a example We create Karthi (actor), Singer, director etc for their profession give the title. Then under which heading should the dubbing artist or Voice actor/actress. Please clear my doubt User:ScarlettDeepa94 1:35 , 17 June 2019 (UTC)

@ScarlettDeepa94: We only use descriptions like "(dubbing artist)" to distinguish between article subjects with the same name. We only have one article about the name "Murali Kumar" so I have moved Murali Kumar (dubbing artist) to Murali Kumar. PrimeHunter (talk) 08:19, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Some other dubbing artiste here their name as Priya Anand, Karthikeyan, Adithya how to create the article and under which heading should gives the person, please mentioned it, and what is the perfect label for the persons dubbing artist or voice actor/actress. please clarifying. User:ScarlettDeepa94 08:40, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@ScarlettDeepa94: Please sign your posts with ~~~~. This automatically adds a correct UTC time stamp. "(voice actor)" is the common English term but if "(dubbing artist)" is more common in India then I suppose you can use that for Indian voice actors when disambiguation from other articles is needed. PrimeHunter (talk) 09:02, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Considering we don't have an article for dubbing artist, voice actor should be the disambiguator in my opinion. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 09:08, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. I did some general cleanup too. As a note, any time a | is seen within a template (such as {{cite web}}, it starts a new parameter. In this case, it tried to think |charity was a parameter, and that's why it was confused. I changed this to simply Qube, as the rest of the information is irrelevent to the source. In Siege of Calais (1596), what exactly causes all the images to slip down to the very bottom of the article? I tried to fix that but I couldn't even find the actual source of error. Many thanks in advance for any assistance!--Hildeoc (talk) 11:45, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Help editing a Wikipedia company page

edit

Hello Wikipedia editors,

I have left a message on the 'Talk' function of the 'SITAONAIR' company page last month, but have yet to receive a response (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:SITAOnAir ) . I appreciate that this may be due to errors in my use of the talk page, so I'm looking for some guidance.

For transparency, I am a PR professional, paid by the company SITAONAIR – so I am obviously prohibited from making changes directly. This account has been set up specifically with the intention to correct inaccuracies and update information on the SITAONAIR page: SITAOnAir.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Removing a page from a hidden category

edit

Sorry to bother you guys/girls, but I need to know how to remove a page from a hidden category. For example, if a page in the category "Wikipedia articles needing copy edit" is copy edited and requires no more corrections, how do you remove it from the category? Bill Williams (talk) 15:11, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@LilBillWilliams: To remove it from the category you just remove the template that puts it into the category, so in this case you would remove the {{copy edit}} template. Help:Maintenance template removal should tell you more. DuncanHill (talk) 15:16, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
The category page often says which templates add the category. Category:Wikipedia articles needing copy edit does this. Hidden categories are not technically different from other categories but in Wikipedia they are usually added by templates. PrimeHunter (talk) 18:15, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use

edit

Hi all! Have a nice day!, as you may see I am enthralled by Japan-related news, even the dark side of its, and I want to contribute to the article Akihabara massacre with a picture depicting the moment of arrest of Tomohiro Kato. Do any of these two qualify as fair use? Thanks in advance and hope you all the best. Number 1 Number 2. --LLcentury (talk) 15:17, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for asking, LLcentury. Looking at the non-free content criteria, I don't see how they could meet no 8; but if you think they do, you can go ahead and upload them, and see what others think. --ColinFine (talk) 16:36, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

ColinFine, my pleasure Colin, I will go ahead and try, at most I will receive a warning, but which one would you choose? Thanks for your kindness. --LLcentury (talk) 16:41, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the correct link (which needs double square brackets is Rob Evans (basketball) and the lists go in alphabetical order. To pay attention

edit

I have posted a request on Talk page of Shamsheer Vayalil, regarding to add his residence and occupation column in his Wikipedia Infobox. I have also provided links from where these information can be extracted. But an editor is playing with me, he says that I provided incorrect link. When I double checked the link then I found that links are correct and working. So, I request other editors to look in this matter and to add the desired information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 223.230.129.225 (talk) 16:07, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It took you three attempts to get the links right, but another editor has now fulfilled one of your requests and I fulfilled the other. Are you happy now? Dbfirs 06:02, 19 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Kolkata Metro

edit

I want help regarding the article Kolkata Metro. Recently I updated it, and changed the names of some stations etc. and I cited a official website[1] But a guy named User:Soumo Dutt changes it frequently. I also undid them, but now I am fed up. He neither gives any citations. Someone already told not to do like this in his talkpage, but he still does. I already put this in Wikipedia:Requests for administrator attention. But he is still doing. I need help on what to do so that he doesn't do this anymore? I am trying to edit and put new stuffs day & night, since the article and all other related articles are outdated, and some people like these are wasting it. Please help

Hello, Arnabsaha2212. I don't see any discussion on Talk:Kolkata Metro. That would be the first step in resolving a content dispute. --ColinFine (talk) 16:39, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
ColinFine, ok, i am putting this issue in the article talkpage. Saha talk 17:15, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
ColinFine ya, i have put that on Talk:Kolkata Metro. what next? and i am also unable to undo the unnecessary edits. Saha ( talk ) 17:29, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Arnabsaha2212: Wikipedia works by consensus. Saying "please do not change" is the same as saying "I am right and you are wrong", and is not an effective opening move in achieving consensus. (Understand that I am not agreeing or disagreeing with your position: I know nothing about the Kolkata Metro. I am talking about how we work towards consensus). --ColinFine (talk) 20:59, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I want to file an arbitration request about edits to Mark Bourrie

This page is about me. I see the edits as targeted harassment.2607:FEA8:C360:C3:7034:60A4:AE46:9091 (talk) 16:54, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Please discuss your concerns on the talk page. I reviewed the article and removed the sentence about you being a paid editor because the reporting said you testified that the payment was unsolicited, and I'm assuming good faith. And thank you for discussing this rather than trying to edit the article yourself. Other editors apparently spent a good amount of time identifying and blocking multiple accounts that were suspiciously editing the article. TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 22:27, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The entire article is full of smear and violates your policies regarding biographies of living persons. Edits made in the past two and a hlaf months have removed anything positive and highlighted the negative. Again, I request a link to the arbitration page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:FEA8:C360:C3:99F7:DB71:6772:B707 (talk) 00:44, 18 June 2019 (UTC) I am not sure why they call this a help page. 1. You need to recognise that Wikipedia is edited by volunteers all around the world. That means that a particular volunteer may only be able to edit for perhaps an hour in any one of the 24 time zones. TimTempleton replied to you at 22:27 yesterday yet you complained here at 00:44. You then demanded action at 13:00 on the talk page and back here at 13:48.
  2. You have been apparently editing as GoldLilydog, 2607:FEA8:C360:C3:7034:60A4:AE46:9091 and 2607:FEA8:C360:C3:99F7:DB71:6772:B707. How do we know that they are the same person?
  3. How do we know that you are the real Mark Bourrie? This is (in part) why we require independent verification of facts.
  4. Please always sign your edits by adding four tildes: ~~~~.
  5. Arbitration requests are at WP:ARBREQ as you would have found out by entering "arbitration" into Wiki's search box. Please note however that "A request for arbitration is the last step of dispute resolution". Martin of Sheffield (talk) 14:41, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Reviving a Wikiproject

edit

Hello, Hope you are all doing well. One of the Wikiprojects which I am quite fond of has fell quite a bit into a state of dormancy since...er...2010. I am looking towards dedicating substantial time to restore this Wikiproject to its former glory, along with its members, team, logos, etc. The leader of the Wikiproject has been inactive for 9 years now and unfortunately there's no sign of him coming back. Would there be a way to take over the Wikiproject? Thanks. Regards, DoctorSpeed ✉️ —Preceding undated comment added 18:16, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiprojects don't have leaders. All collaborators are equal. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 18:46, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
...and as a consequence, there is no "taking over" to be done. List yourself as participant, watchlist the relevant pages, edit articles etc. and voilà - there is an active contributor to the project. TigraanClick here to contact me 14:50, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Elijah Daniel recently bought the town of Hell, Michigan and renamed it Gay Hell, but when I changed it my Change was reported for vandalism, can you please help? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Esalzano (talkcontribs) 20:51, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Esalzano: Hello. Plase discuss the change on the article's talk page. Thank you. — Lauritz Thomsen (talk) 20:54, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • The article has now been EC protected two months by User:Swarm; two users have been blocked. That should help with the enthusiastic renaming of the town to 'Gay Hell' by new users. I'll leave a ping for User:VoltronUniverse since they have been one of the people adding 'Gay' to the article text. There is a problem with making unsourced changes. A rapper and Youtuber named Elijah Daniel has been saying that he became mayor of Hell for a day and has used his temporary authority to rename the town to 'Gay Hell'. This appears to be a sort of a joke and would need to be handled with due weight, if confirmed by reliable sources. We do have reliable sources confirming that Daniel *made* the statement; the press seems to be treating that as a human interest item. The report has achieved some currency, presumably as a tongue-in-cheek item. If we want to add this information to the actual article on Hell, Michigan we should get it from a source which is doing more than repeating Daniel's own announcement. Ending conflict of interest

edit

  Helped
I stated that I had a conflict of interest with a company a few years ago. At the time I was a paid contractor with the company.

However, this conflict ended a couple of years ago when the company reorganized. I am no longer either an employee or contractor, or associated with the company - other than being a fan of what they are doing.

Since this conflict no longer exists, how do I get this removed?

Thanks.

PS: I do still have a conflict with the other company listed on my account as I am still a paid contractor with them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Conquestde (talkcontribs) 22:59, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Conquestde: You should not completely remove it (since you did have a conflict at one time, and anyone looking at your past contributions made during that time frame should still be aware of your past paid editing status). Rather, you can change the disclaimer to identify the period in time that you were a paid editor for them. Orville1974 (talk) 01:15, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Anonymous sources

edit

Should I add a source that has anonymous sources? For example if New York Times interviewed an anonymous person would that be reliable and be included in the article.Manabimasu (talk) 23:15, 17 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Manabimasu: Your source would be the New York Times article itself (you could include in the Wikipedia article, "according to an anonymous source" then whatever they said, then the citation linking it to the New York Times if you wanted to clarify that the source the NYT was reporting from was anonymous). Orville1974 (talk) 01:10, 18 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Manabimasu: Just to clarify a bit: you should use secondary sources (here, the NYT), not primary sources (here, whoever the anonymous source is). What gives credence to the information is not who provided it in the first place, but the fact that the NYT (a newspaper with a fairly good track record for fact-checking) published it (assuming it is an investigative piece, not something from the opinion column).
