editRowspan in table
editHey, I'm working on a project in one of my sandboxes. In the main cast section towards the end of the first bulk of cast (in the Pretty Little Liars section), more specifically pertaining to Jessica DiLaurentis / Mary Drake, can anyone tell me why the two cells on the far right containing Andrea Parker won't merge into one. I've tried both source and visual editing but no luck. TheDoctorWho (talk) 04:43, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- Hi, @TheDoctorWho: I was randomly posting a query above, and I noticed your question. Now I hate tables like almost nothing else, but I think it may be because you have defined
- {{Sortname|Andrea|Parker|nolink=1}}
- twice. I reckon there should be only one of her, try commenting out one then the other with
<!-- and -->
. If I'm on the right track, you may also have to fix some or all of those pesky rowspan= and colspan= thingies aargh. Something in my brain explodes at this point: if I'm on the wrong track, best of luck. >MinorProphet (talk) 07:52, 17 March 2019 (UTC) - A browser will usually render a table row with height 0, making it invisible, if no content has to be displayed in any cells in the row. I used
rowspan="2" style="height:3em"
to avoid this.[1] PrimeHunter (talk) 11:14, 17 March 2019 (UTC)- @PrimeHunter: Ahh, makes sense. Thank you so much! TheDoctorWho (talk) 01:53, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
Does Wikipedia have a page that instructs editors here on how to create a User Box?
editDoes Wikipedia have a page that instructs editors here on how to create a User Box? Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 04:44, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Joseph A. Spadaro: try WP:CREATEUSERBOX and Template:Userbox? TheDoctorWho (talk) 05:18, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. I will review those pages. Thank you. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 13:32, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
Problem with a little crazy exalted italian wikipedia administrators
editProblem with a little crazy exalted italian wikipedia administrators
Can you suspend the account of these crazy exalted italian wikipedia administrators
Rojelio
https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utente:Rojelio
and reactivate mine that I have not done anything wrong? Im trying to write 2 simple things that are totally true and they say no and and they have blocked my account (Antolepore) I don't understand why?
can you intervene please?
thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Antolepore (talk • contribs) 12:09, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, Antolepore, but nobody at en-wiki has any authority over it-wiki, or can intervene there. You'll need to handle this within it-wiki. It is possible that somebody at OTRS could help you, but my impression is that they will not willingly interfere in the governance of an individual Wikipedia. --ColinFine (talk) 12:42, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- Although using two accounts simultaneously might have something to do with it. ——SerialNumber54129 13:11, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- Antolepore, this has already been explained to you multiple times on multiple projects. From the looks of it, you were blocked for adding unsourced content, and likely sent a legal threat via email, which would explain why your email access was revoked. Beyond that, the fact that you somehow managed to find media.wiki, a project which is almost entirely invisible to the vast majority of users, it further seems unlikely that this is your first account or your first block. Having said all that, stop asking this question, you're not going to get a different response. GMGtalk 13:35, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
Im trying to write 2 simple things that are totally true and they say no and and they have blocked my account (antolepore) I don't understand why? I didn't really understand why I can't do it? Wikipedia is not a free encyclopedia? But do you understand me when I write? But why don't you let me write these things? I will continue to send emails every day until we understand each other ... ok? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Antolepore (talk • contribs) 22:16, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- Did you understand "nobody at en-wiki has any authority over it-wiki"? Or can we make it more clear? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 23:14, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- Google translate gives "nessuno su en-wiki ha alcuna autorità su di esso-wiki". Helpful? Britmax (talk) 15:47, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
If I tell you that what I want to write is true and because I know that it is true because it is really true. If you block me and my account in this case you want to hide the reality! I'm old enough to tell you what I'm telling you So I didn't understand why people say that Wikipedia is free but I think it isnt really free. Is tenere a scam if you what to hide my contribution? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Antolepore (talk • contribs) 22:11, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
- If, as indicated above, you have attempted to add unsourced material and issued legal threats, it is no surprise that you have been blocked. If you continue to tendentiously raise this matter here (where we cannot assist) you may end up with additional loss of privileges. Please stop: no one is interested in what you claim to know about anything. To add information to any Wiki project, it needs to be supported by independent reliable sources (reliable newspapers or other media etc.). Eagleash (talk) 22:20, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
Am I the source what's strange about this thing? I repeat I don't understand the sense of having an encyclopedia called Wikipedia and declares itself free and then situations like this happen — Preceding unsigned comment added by Antolepore (talk • contribs) 20:06, 20 March 2019 (UTC)
deleted edit summary log
editAfghan Girl (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) I recently edited an article, and my edit summary was deleted. I don't know why it was deleted, and I would like to see who did that, but I can't seem to find a log of that action. (It doesn't appear under "All public logs" for that page.) Is there a log for this action? And where can I find it? Thanks! -- irn (talk) 17:16, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Irn: This sort of deletion usually occurs when there is some serious policy violation like copyright issues or grossly inappropriate material. However, I would expect to see both an explanation and the ID of the Admin. who performed the deletion, somewhere in the page history. This instance seems unusual as there is no indication of either. Hopefully one of the Admins. who volunteer at the help desk will see this thread and be able to comment further. Deletion of your summary etc. does not reflect badly upon you, necessarily. It merely means that the revision after your edit still contained the offensive material. Cheers. Eagleash (talk) 17:43, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks! Yeah, it's a weird situation that I've never seen before. It appears that the "offensive material" was simply the IP address that made the previous edit. That makes no sense to me, and I don't understand how deleting that is in line with RevDel. But in order to even ask that question, I would need to know who did it and why. -- irn (talk) 18:52, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Irn: It was oversighted so administrators like me cannot see it. Oversighters have an oversight log. Wikipedia:Oversight#Policy says: "This includes hiding the IP data of editors who accidentally logged out and thus inadvertently revealed their own IP addresses, and hiding the IP data of editors without an account on request." You probably used a revert method which automatically adds the reverted username or IP address to the edit summary. Just ignore it. PrimeHunter (talk) 19:22, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks, it absolutely is the case that my edit summary included the IP address. So I guess this means that the editor using that IP address asked some Oversighter to delete it, and the only log for that action would be the Oversight log of the admin who did the deletion. Is that right? That doesn't seem terribly transparent. Why wouldn't this show up in the logs for the page? Why isn't there some sort of log that just says "[Admin x] changed visibility of Username or IP address (X reason)"? -- irn (talk) 22:46, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Irn: It may have been an IP request for privacy but I don't know. Oversighters are a user group beyond administrators. Telling people there is a secret can cause them to search for it. A visible oversight log similar to Special:Log/delete would be a giant "Here are thousands of secret things we are trying to hide from you." That would be seen as a challenge by some people, maybe people who like to out editors or look for children who post identifying information. I guess named oversighters could also be harassed, e.g. by people who deliberately posted something bad that was oversighted. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:24, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

Judge Jeanine
editIt is totally unacceptable that you cancelled the Judge Jeanine show. All the leftist have gone defcon 5 on O'Relly, Judge Jeanine, Tucker Carlson, and Hannity. These are the only shows that have stood up for everyday American citizens. Time to turn the tables on the leftist radicals and quit helping them. Stop buying the leftist lies and start supporting the people and shows that have made FOX! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.143.192.250 (talk) 17:32, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- Hello, this is the desk for help in editing Wikipedia. Do you have a question in that respect? If so please provide a link to the page in question. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 17:45, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- Wikipedia has cancelled nothing; we have no control over Fox's programming decisions. You should address your concerns to them.331dot (talk) 19:40, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
2 Terry Castles mixed up—-correction needed!!!
editWas just alerted to fact that Wikipedia has very prominently mixed me, Terry Castle, a writer and scholar at Stanford, up with Terry Castle, the daughter of the Hammer Films director William Castle. We are both female and live in the Bay Area but are not the same person! The first thing you see for me when you search—the quick look profile—-says my father was William Castle but he was not.
Based on the error, I am getting unwanted email from people asking me about William C. —-when I have not connection with him.
Could you please fix the errors in your two “Terry Castle” and “Terry Castle” entries, now that we have gotten confused? Thank you,Terry Castle, Stanford University — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:645:8200:71C6:BCCA:A32F:A437:8C90 (talk) 17:51, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- Hello, the only Terry Castle I can find on Wikipedia is this one which is yourself I think. Are you looking at the results of a Google search, which often displays information in a way that implies that it comes from Wikipedia? If so, Wikipedia has no control over that aspect but there is a 'feedback' link at the bottom of the summary panel to report errors. Also, if the matter does need to be taken further here, we would probably need to establish your identity. Eagleash (talk) 18:20, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- I've added a hatnote in that article for William Castle's daughter. Clarityfiend (talk) 19:32, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- Hello, Terry Castle. This is not a Wikipedia problem; it is a Google problem. Please read the Wikipedia article Google Knowledge Graph. That is the box that comes up when anyone Googles your name. At the bottom, there is a link that says "Claim this knowledge panel". Click that and you can inform Google about the error. Good luck. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 19:38, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
Ping an IP
edit- is it possible to ping an IP account? When I try to ping with {{ping|12.34.56.789}} (not actual user) the address is redlinked and it says "User:12.34.56.789 (page does not exist)" - thanks - Epinoia (talk) 17:54, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

- Please remember for the future that the button to undo an edit is the "Undo" button. You have been told this a number of times previously. Please also remember to check your edits with the "Preview" function before saving them. --David Biddulph (talk) 22:57, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- And please also remember not to use as a section heading a title which has already been used on the same page; again, something about which you have been told on countless occasions in the past. --David Biddulph (talk) 22:59, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
