editHow to lock Walmart article so only employees of Walmart can edit it and require proof of employment to edit page -- 2600:1000:b00f:2617:2ca6:9bb2:12d8:aecb
- I suspect it would be the opposite. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 00:11, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's not how Wikipedia operates, sorry. The article on Walmart summarizes what independent reliable sources say about Walmart, not what Walmart wants to say about itself, which it is free to do on Walmart dot com. Walmart employees should not directly edit the article about their company, but they may make edit requests. It's also unlikely Wikipedia would get access to Walmart computer systems to be able to verify employment. 331dot (talk) 00:21, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- In conclusion, what you want is both technically impossible and against Wikipedia's principles. This is an online encyclopedia, not a promotion platform for companies. Walmart employees can edit Walmart's own website to promote their business. JIP | Talk 00:35, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

Our Club Has Rebranded, How Do We Update?
editHello, our club "FC Malaga City New York" has rebranded to "Pathfinder FC." I am the owner of the club. How do I get this updated on Wikopedia? Source: https://www.pathfinderfc.com/post/dutchess-county-football-club-cuts-ties-with-spanish-club-rebrands — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pathfinderfc (talk • contribs) 12:11, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- You post a request on the article's talk page, but it looks like it's already been renamed to Pathfinder FC. ~Anachronist (talk) 14:13, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
“Invasion” is incorrect : Cyprus
editI have seen that these pages are “protected” and unable to edit. They continuous false narrative that Turkey’s invasion of Cyprus is wrong. It was an “INTERVENTION” to protect the Turkish Cypriots being ethnically cleansed. Please explain why a false narrative on many of your pages regarding this, is allowed.
I look forward to your reply. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2a01:4c8:468:ad62:b043:50b8:87ae:67d0 (talk • contribs) 12:22, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- Every article has a talk page. I suppose that the article Cyprus is high up on your list of articles that, in your view, should be reworded. If so, then go to Talk:Cyprus, and, at the foot of that page, make your case. (Incidentally, I thought that in most contexts "intervention" was merely a euphemistic way to say "invasion".) -- Hoary (talk) 12:31, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- Indeed, "intervention" is a euphemism, and should be avoided. See MOS:EUPH. Maproom (talk) 17:12, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- Turkey actually goes further and calls it the Cyprus Peace Operation. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:29, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

- Wikipedia tries to be neutral on controversial issues, reporting only what reliable sources say on the matter. If you think that an article is unsatisfactory, please present your argument with citations to reliable sources on the article's talk page. --ColinFine (talk) 14:43, 15 August 2021 (UTC)

IP property and irredentist statements
editHi
If I had a email address I could forward the registration of IP property being misused.
Plus Wikipedia is being used for irredentist false posts. In other words a political misinformation tool.
So many laws are being broken on Wikipedia once it was a great source of information however now it is a free for all service. Anybody can post whatever they want.
I believe Wikipedia should be removed there is no control. I am now disappointed in making a contribution to Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.200.5.166 (talk • contribs) 13:41, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- This is the help desk, where you ask for help. You have not asked for help, you have just made complaints that are so vague that there is nothing actionable. What intellectual property is being misused?
- You can find an email address at Wikipedia:Contact us but the people who handle the email queue are Wikipedia volunteers just like the editors here. You would get more eyes on your issue if you simply explained it on this talk page. ~Anachronist (talk) 14:05, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
Problems of new page and user page
editHello, I need your help!
I wanted to create a page of my grandfather, eminent painter Joseph Spinel. 1. I was asked to create the user page, and there somehow "reveal" that I am the grandson of Joseph Spinel. I did that, but now I don't see my user page. Why? 2. i have read that i can remain anonymous in wiki. How should I then fulfill the 1st point? 3. i have prepared the page Joseph Spinel, got a message what i have to correct, but can't find this message, nor my draft.
I would be very grateful for your help! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lubomudr58 (talk • contribs) 14:14, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Lubomudr58:
- 1. Put a notice about your conflict of interest on your user page User:Lubomudr58.
- 2. You are anonymous. You created an account but nobody knows who "Ludomudr58" is, unless you want to disclose your identity on your user page. You don't have to. You just need to state that you have a conflict of interest with a particular topic.
- 3. Go to Wikipedia:Articles for creation and follow the instructions there to create a draft article and submit it for review. Draft space of your own sandbox are the only places where you should be editing about a topic with which you have a conflict of interest.
- Also bear in mind that Wikipedia is not to be used for memorials. If your grandfather meets the inclusion criteria, then he can have an article here. Please see Wikipedia:Golden rule to get a good overview of what we expect in a draft article before it can be published. ~Anachronist (talk) 14:18, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- Where is the page you created? There is nothing in your contribution history about it. I'll add that there is already a draft article at Draft:Joseph Spinel but you have not contributed to it, so that is probably a different person. If you create a draft, give it a different name (like the full name of the person). ~Anachronist (talk) 14:24, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- There is another editor Amade58 who has declared a COI as a grandson of Spinel. Is that you, Lubomudr58, or someone you may like to know about? If it is you, please use that account only to continue working on the draft. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:41, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, I have 2 different accounts for different languages, which is not good, but you can't delete an account. The Article is here Draft:Joseph Spinel
This is not my first article. I know the rules of Wikipedia and know, that "Wikipedia is not to be used for memorials"- but it's about a filmmaker who made the film that got 39th place out of 100 best films in international film history in the rating of professional film critics in some years. Rottentomatoes: Tomatometer 100% Audience Score 91% - It must be something significant. Nevertheless, I cannot understand why the article with all the proofs etc. is not accepted. That's why I need your concrete help. Sincerely, Amade50 alias Lubomudr58
Thanks! But: I wrote that I created a page and a conflict of interest entry appeared there, but now it stands again that there is no such page. In addition, the entry appeared after I wrote that Joseph Spinel was my grandfather, that is, it is no longer anonymous. Or should I have written something else? And why did that page disappear? And: I cannot write down the pronunciation of the name "Spinel" correctly, the first letter S must sound like "Sh". Unfortunately, "ʃ" is not accepted. What must I da? Thanks!
- We now believe that you initially logged in as Amade58, but that you have now logged in as Lubomudr58. If so, pleaswe abandon one of these accounts and continue using the other one. The Amade58 user page has an acceptable COI declaration and did all the work on Draft:Joseph Spinel. By "anonymous" we only mean that Wikipedia has not verified your identity. This is not a problem, and most editors remain anonymous in this fashion. You are free to tell us your real name or not on you user page. -Arch dude (talk) 20:46, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- For your second question, please look at Help:IPA, IPA scares me, but I can usually get it right. My GUESS is that your typographical letter, while it looks correct, is actually a different unicode. Here is your character: "ʃ". Here is the IPA for the Voiceless postalveolar fricative: "ʃ", which I generated using the HTML string "ʃ" because I don't know the correct way to do it. -Arch dude (talk) 20:46, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- Arch dude: ʃ does not work. Nor does copying a ʃ from Help:IPA/English. I eventually solved that problem by copying a ʃ from Robert Schumann. I cannot explain why that worked better. Maproom (talk) 22:40, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Lubomudr58: To Michael D. Turnbull
Dear Michael, I would like to delete Lubomudr58, but I'm not sure if everything works there, because I used this account for the pages in German, there are also the permissions of the pictures, talks, notifications etc.. Won't that have unforeseeable consequences? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Amade58 (talk • contribs) 16:08, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Michael D. Turnbull: Courtesy ping. GoingBatty (talk) 16:44, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Amade58: It is not possible to delete accounts - see Wikipedia:Username_policy#Deleting_and_merging_accounts. As Arch dude mentioned above, you can just stop using it. You can also make a note on User:Lubomudr58 and User:Amade58 that you have stopped using Lubomudr58. GoingBatty (talk) 16:44, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
Thanks! I can make a note, but not mow, because I am currently discussing my new articles in other languages and I am afraid that some commentators do not notice this and continue to write to Lubomudr58.
Editing style of table
editHello, I am creating a draft for the page "Results of the 2021 Japanese general election". The draft will be published a few days before the election actually happens (in september), but I am starting it now so when the election actually happens there is less to do.
My question pertains to the following section of my draft page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Bwmdjeff/2021election#Overall_Results
In the section "Overall Results", I made a table. However, most of the rows of the table are in bold text. I want it so that only the first column and first/second rows are in bold. How do I do this.
ThanksBwmdjeff (talk) 14:24, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Bwmdjeff: The Help:Table page has complete documentation. Preceding a cell with an exclamation point makes it into a bold table header cell, and preceding it with a vertical bar | makes it a regular cell. The very first example in that document should be helpful. ~Anachronist (talk) 14:35, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
High! Sorry, couldn't find the help desk for Wikidata. So here is my question: I was oly giving the option to enter a day, not a time. Since it aired at 8:15 local time, would like to add the hour as well. How do I do that? --Fossa?! 15:45, 15 August 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Fossa. Their "Project chat" page appears to be the place to ask this kind of question. With regards to your question, it appears you are looking for the property "refine date", which allows you to add a more precise date where needed, as a qualifier. I've went ahead and did it already.
