editchicxulub crater
editHello, I do not know if this will be added to the chicxulub crater page but in 1977 I was in my Geology class in high school and I hypothesized that a meteor hit the area now associated with Chicxulub crater. Needless to say, I was laughed out of class saying that if that was true then science would already have known that. What i am saying is that the first one to hypothesized that a meteor hit the peninsula was me. Now I do not have any proof of that because we did not have iphones or pagers or anything like that and I do not have any of my high school notes, nor do I remember my Geology teachers name but I was in Mesquite High School, 10th grade. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rickp99 (talk • contribs) 01:25, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- Wikipedia summarizes what independent reliable sources say, so unless one documents your claim, sorry, it can't be on Wikipedia. 331dot (talk) 01:34, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, Rickp99. Evidence of the presence of the impact crater, buried 20km deep under overlying sedimentary deposits, was supposedly first suspected by petroleum-industry geologists using advanced (and commercially secret) magnetic and gravitic survey data in 1978, and confirmatory evidence was only found in 1990. Apart from a then-obscure pattern of cenotes in the jungle of the Yucatan peninsula, I'm unaware of any previously-known surface details that might have suggested a crater there, or any other reason to think there had been an impact. Can you give us some details about what might have led a high-school student (presumably in Arizona or Texas) in 1977 to come to such a hypothesis? {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.208.90.66 (talk) 08:58, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
Donation request.
editI have donated and have an ongoing donation but I still get messages asking me to donate. Is there a problem with your software recognising this — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.174.37.119 (talk) 04:34, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hi there! If you create an account, you will then have the option to turn off the fundraising banners. Without an account, the Wikipedia software can't associate your IP address with your donations. Hope this helps! GoingBatty (talk) 04:55, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

- Donation records are not tied to accounts; those records are held by the Foundation. As you use an IP address, the software has no way of knowing if the person sitting at the computer at any given moment has seen a donation request. 331dot (talk) 09:58, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
So I accidently submitted this in mainspace before it was ready. I moved it back to draft space to finish. Now it is waiting AFC review since its BLP. I'm not sure why people think this was a rejected article when the history trail shows my name as the one who moved it. Was I supposed to tag/untag something here?

- @Tenryuu: It appears Imcdc addressed Robert McClenon at Draft:Makoto Soejima 55 minutes before posting here. Since "people" is plural, who are the other people? GoingBatty (talk) 20:39, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- @GoingBatty: I'm inclined to believe it is "people" in the general sense (that is, anyone) , so it might have been used prematurely. In any case, it's out of our hands. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 21:48, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

Donations
editDonations - why do you keep interrupting me to make a donation when I already make a monthly donation and occasional spontaneous donation as well. I’m going to be less inclined to donate regularly if you continue to be so aggressive — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:6B0:4CF0:0:0:0:519 (talk) 12:05, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- As you can see just a few threads above this one, if you create an account and log in, you can set a preference to turn off fundraising banners. Otherwise, as an anonymous visitor, the Wikimedia servers have no way of knowing whether you have donated. In addition, as Wikipedia volunteers we have no control of or direct access to donations raised by the Wikimedia Foundation. ClaudineChionh (talk – contribs) 12:12, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

Refideas problem
editWhy does only three out of four refideas items at Talk:Ita Mai Tai show up? Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 13:16, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Jo-Jo Eumerus: It appears the fourth link has an equal sign that wasn't replaced with {{=}}. Though I'd recommend using "1=", "2=", etc. instead of simply breaking with "|", as it should remove the need to replace the equal signs in the links, afaik. Isabelle 🔔 13:22, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

is it possible to delete a Wikipedia account that I own?
editI am teaching a science enrichment class to 9th graders. We've been using Wikipedia to find details on various scientists. Some of the scientists' pages don't have a lot of information, so I thought it would be fun to teach the students how to edit them & add information that they've found elsewhere. (great chance to talk about how to cite & how not to plagiarize!)
It turns out that their school system has set things up such that no one using one of their IP addresses can set up a Wikipedia account. It's possible to edit if one already has an account set up, though. So what I'd like to do is set up an account for them to use while in class and then delete the account at the end of the semester, when class is over. I could just change the password & leave the account, but it seems like a waste of space. That's not a big deal, I guess, but now I'm curious about whether deletion is possible.
So, is there a way to delete an account that I have set up?
The obvious thing to do would be to have the students set up their accounts at home & then use them at school. That's problematic for a couple reasons, including the fact that some of the students don't have internet at home.
All ideas welcome, thanks! Margaret BioProfDrH (talk) 14:24, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- User accounts are for single person use only, so I think your idea is a non starter and no accounts cannot be deleted. Theroadislong (talk) 14:49, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
Thank you! BioProfDrH (talk) 14:57, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, BioProfDrH. That sounds an admirable intention, to introduce your students to editing Wikipedia, even though the way you thought of doing it won't work. If you haven't already, please go ot WP:Education, as it's quite likely somebody has already thought about the problem before. --ColinFine (talk) 15:04, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
That's an excellent idea, will do. Thanks! BioProfDrH (talk) 15:14, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- BioProfDrH WP:Education recommends posting to the Wikipedia:Education noticeboard if you want to ask for help related to a class editing project. TSventon (talk) 15:23, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- {U|BioProfDrH}} Do not worry about use of storage resources. Your whole endeavour is unlikely to use 100 MB, and a TB costs <$1000, so your burden on the system will cost < $0.10. Your sdudents' positive contributions will more then make up for this. From your own home, set up a separate account for each student. Provide the account to each separately and tell each to change the password. Make sure to tell them that Wikipedia logs all of their edits and that those logs are available to everybody, so they should not share passwords. Please have each student add a note on their account's talk page to link to your home page for the exersise, where you can explain what you did. This will let others know that the accounts are not a sock puppet farm that you created for nefarious purposes. The exersize will also get them used to editing on talk pages and linking. Have each student also make their own user page, for the same reason. These accounts will not be deleted, ever, so the students should be encouraged to continue to use them after the assignment is completed. Good luck! -Arch dude (talk) 16:19, 4 December 2021 (UTC)

How do i publish
editI do not know how to publish and i really want to know how to publish in wikipedia — Preceding unsigned comment added by Awonke svg cds d blq tyga (talk • contribs) 14:33, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Awonke svg cds d blq tyga, for basic editing, see WP:TUTORIAL and WP:ADVENTURE. On how and when it is possible to start a new article, see WP:YFA. If there's no good sources on a subject, you can't write an acceptable WP-article about it. And if your plan is to try to write an article about yourself, it's probably impossible.
