Why are articles about Japanese entertainment media lumped into one big article but other countries' articles are split up per entry?

edit

As an example, look up any anime on Wikipedia (Beastars, for example): It will most certainly direct you to the manga page with tiny sub-sections about any adaptations into other media like OVAs, Anime TV series', Video Games, etc and if there is a separate page, it's usually only a list of episodes and only because the episode list is "long".

Now do the same with any other media made anywhere else, I'll use Mortal Kombat as it's relevant right now with the 2021 movie coming out. Searching "Mortal Kombat" brings you to the franchise page but each and every type of derived media: every video game, movie, TV series, Music Album, and Comic book series has its own page.

Why isn't Japanese media treated the same? When searching, I want to get a high-level overview about the TV show: how it was produced, the history, etc; but when the article is structured so it's 99% about the manga with "here's an episode list of the Anime that was produced years later" that isn't helpful at all and very frustrating/infuriating. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:8081:1610:E059:B1D7:26E6:4100:B8F9 (talk) 04:11, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You might find your answer on Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Anime and manga, or by posting on the related talk page. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 05:21, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The English Wikipedia often has more coverage of English-language franchises than of other languages but here are some TV series articles based on manga: Bleach (TV series), Dragon Ball (TV series), JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (TV series), One Piece (1999 TV series), Fullmetal Alchemist (TV series), Attack on Titan (TV series), Sailor Moon (TV series), Berserk (1997 TV series), Berserk (2016 TV series). Delete account and editing

edit

I'd like to delete my account Ozzykozzy2 and any associated data. I thought things would be further kept under controls by eager to please users and knee jerk users and we wouldn't blow ourselves up but I realized that it would likely get worse until more responsible parties arrive to guide and maintain the system we've had going for decades. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ozzykozzy2 (talkcontribs) 00:54, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ozzykozzy2, Wikipedia can't delete accounts because edits like this one have to be attributed to something. As far as I can tell, this is the only edit you've ever made on this account, so the easiest thing to do would be to just abandon the account. That said, you could ask for a courtesy vanishing. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 00:57, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Fake news

Hello sir i am shah fahad from Pakistan and i belong to Muslim family i saw content on Wikipedia that a man. Was claiming 5th caliph but in Islam there is only 4 caliph so please remove that content

"Mirza Masroor Ahmad (Urdu: مرزا مسرور احمد‎; born 15 September 1950) is the current and fifth leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. His official title within the movement is Fifth Caliph of the Messiah (Arabic: خليفة المسيح الخامس‎, khalīfatul masīh al-khāmis)." That info is correct, isn't it? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:48, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If there is an actual documented contraversy about this that has been published in reliable sources (WP:RS), then you are free to add a referenced discussion of it into the article. -Arch dude (talk) 20:47, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This is probably more knock-on from Google's idiocy in re its search results that blew up in December. IIRC Google still returns that article for the search term "current caliph of islam". —A little blue Bori v^_^v Takes a strong man to deny... 20:58, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The first result on the Google search current caliph of islam is Mirza Masroor Ahmad and displays: "Mirza Masroor Ahmad (Urdu: مرزا مسرور احمد‎; born 15 September 1950) is the current and fifth leader of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. His official title within ...". That's a completely acceptable search result when the sentence also contains "Caliph" a few words later. The problem is not with Google or Wikipedia but the people who get upset over this because they are clueless about how search engines work, or want censorship of anything that disagrees with their religious beliefs. edit

I have created a Wikipedia page for Rabin Baldewsingh. I have published it, but it does not show on google. It seems that this is not active yet. The page is called User:Rabin Baldewsingh. It should be: Rabin Baldewsingh

How can this be changed and published so that everybody can see it in google.

Please help me to correct this.

Thank you very much! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rabin Baldewsingh (talkcontribs) 10:39, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In order to solve for x, you would need to provide the full equation for context. However, this is the Help Desk, where you can ask questions about how to edit Wikipedia. Do you have any such questions? Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 14:45, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How can I ask the Wikipedia community for an opinion on the publication of an encyclopedic entry?

edit

Hi, I have inserted the encyclopedic entry "Gianfranco Continenza" in my Sandbox (here). He is a jazz-fusion author and composer. How can I ask the community for an opinion (and even a contribution) before publishing it? Thanks in advance to anyone who wants to help me.--Max Peltuinum (talk) 17:24, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Max Peltuinum: - lots of short paragraphs, need to be consolidated. Fair amount of material is apparently unreferenced. This is not good in a BLP. Mjroots (talk) 17:32, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Mjroots: - Thanks for your very welcome reply. I will try to rework the text in a more articulated form. Can you tell me which parts of the text (even just some) are not sufficiently referenced, in order to guide me?--Max Peltuinum (talk) 17:41, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Max Peltuinum: - I'll mark them for you. It may be that the next reference after what I peceive is unreferenced covers the statement, but only you'll know that. Mjroots (talk) 17:44, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Mjroots: - In any case, your help will be invaluable. Thank you!--Max Peltuinum (talk) 17:49, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Max Peltuinum: I've marked them all with {{cn}}, which displays as [citation needed]. BTW, references go after punctuation. See HELP:REFBEGIN for more info about referencing. Mjroots (talk) 17:50, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Max Peltuinum: When you're addressed the issues above and ready for more feedback, you can move the page to Draft:Gianfranco Continenza and add {{subst:submit}} to submit to through the Articles for creation process. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 03:33, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@GoingBatty: I thank you infinitely. I hope I have fixed the issues that have been reported to me (or at least most of them). Before I move the entry to "draft", could you take a look? I also ping @Mjroots: who welcomed me.--Max Peltuinum (talk) 15:01, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think the article may well be accepted after you submit it Max Peltuinum. However, I found some of it a bit irrelevant. Do we really need to know (first line of biography), that he listened to a long list of well-known musicians. Didn't we all do that in our youth? And did he really have so many teachers and influencers? Notability (in a Wikipedia sense) is not inherited from these people so perhaps the focus should be only on the most significant one(s) mentioned in the sources. Good luck. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:13, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Michael D. Turnbull: Hi. Thanks for your help. I think you are right about the musicians he listened to when he was young. I included them because I think they could help better describe the multifaceted style of this musician: he is a predominantly jazz-fusion guitarist (he learned jazz from his father and then studied at the Musicians Institute), but he also recorded on funk, rock and heavy metal music records (genres he has loved since he was a kid). In any case, if this information appears redundant, I agree with you that it is best avoided. As for his teachers, however, they were actually those listed (all musicians from the Musicians Institute). He has maintained constant relationships with most of them throughout his musical career, both professionally and personally. Many of them have collaborated on his solo albums, and with many others he has recorded compilations. This is also reflected in the references. Obviously, even in this case, if the information appears redundant it is definitely necessary to avoid it. Before I delete the two paragraphs indicated, do you think I should wait for another opinion?--Max Peltuinum (talk) 16:39, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Max Peltuinum:. I don't think there is any need to worry about this while your draft is not accepted. I'd advise submitting it for review, which should trigger more experienced editors to take a look. You can still work on it while it is waiting (it can take a while). Wikipedia articles are always "works in progress", never complete. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:24, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just moved to Draft ([[1]]). Thanks for your invaluable help!--Max Peltuinum (talk) 18:01, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

RfA Request

edit

My Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/J.Turner99 is not showing up in the current requests on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship. I think this is because I removed some important syntax. Please assist/advice. Thank you J.Turner99 (talk) 19:37, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

J.Turner99, please don't waste the community's time by trying to get that RfA to show up at WP:RfA. With <1,000 edits, you would have no chance of being accepted, even if it were a serious request. It looks more like a piece of polemic, and its successful transclusion is unlikely to go well for you. GirthSummit (blether) 19:42, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Girth Summit I appreciate your concern. However, I do meet the requirements to make a request, so as a requester, I would apprciate your help on this greatly J.Turner99 (talk) 19:46, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hopefully someone will delete it before you get blocked. What with this and your post at WP:BN you are just being disruptive now.-- P-K3 (talk) 19:48, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
J.Turner99, I'm not going to help you disrupt the project by transcluding that - it's not a request for adminship, it's a rant. You have been topic banned; your requested a review of the ban, it was reviewed and upheld. You haven't been 'arrested', you haven't been 'denied any freedom'; all that's happened is that the people who administer an online encyclopaedia-writing project have told you not to edit in a particular topic area. There is no need for you to put on a Spiderman outfit and climb any public buildings. Drop it, go for a walk, listen to some music, whatever - this is just wasting your time, and everyone else's. GirthSummit (blether) 19:52, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
J.Turner99 I too strongly suggest that you abandon this effort. Wikipedia is not a government with laws and due process- though we try to be fair. Free speech only means that the government cannot jail you for your speech- not that you can force Wikipedia to allow you to say what you wish. Do you provide for due process and fair trials and free speech with setting policies and guidelines in your residence? As a private entity, Wikipedia can determine what content is on its computers and how it gets there using any means it sees fit. If you don't like the rules, you are free to go somewhere else with rules that you like, or start your own website with your own rules. 331dot (talk) 19:52, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
J.Turner99, if you would like me to delete that, I will. It has no chance of success, and if I delete it now, some point several years in the future when you may be more prepared to run for admin you'll have a clean slate. However, I will not delete it unless you ask me to. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 19:55, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Eh. Never mind. 331dot already did it. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 19:56, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

331dot has said I can't even put the request on an archived sub page or my own user page. Why is this? J.Turner99 (talk) 21:11, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@J.Turner99: might be because it was complete horseshit. That's just a guess, mind you. Nick (talk) 21:14, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
J.Turner99, I cannot answer this question but let me - after reading half an hour stuff on your talk page - tell you honestly: It is for your own interest if you really in the far future want to run for RfA again. Girth Summit left you a very good advice on your talk page and I highly suggest following it before you get blocked (which sometimes also have good effects, it gives you the peace and the time to reflect yourself - I know exactly of what I am talking about). The Social Experimenter The Social Experimenter (talk) 22:10, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Courtesy link: User:The Social Experimenter/sandbox 2 @The Social Experimenter: You need to include a url field (ex: url=http://xyz.com) in order for the date errors to disappear. I'm not sure why - probably a glitch. Also, the page numbers need a field name (ex: pages= 1-2). TimTempleton (talk) (cont) 23:12, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Not a glitch. |access-date= is the date that |url= was observed to support the content of the en.wiki article. |access-date= applies only to the value in |url=. When there is no url, |access-date= is meaningless.
Trappist the monk (talk) 00:53, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ispiration for edits

Many times I don't "find inspiration" to do edits on Wikipedia. By inspiration, I mean the fact that I never know which page to edit. How can I solve this problem? DrSalvus (talk) 22:36, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dr Salvus, consider joining a WikiProject, where you can collaborate with other editors on a certain topic that interests you. There's really one for everyone, here's a directory for you. Hope that helps you a bit. Thanks, EDG 543 (message me) 22:45, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You could look at a series of articles about things that interest you, such as places you have lived in or books you have read. Somewhere there will be spelling mistakes or mistakes in grammar. There could be important facts missed out that you have the sources to add. I found that the article on a town I knew had nothing about an important industry which had existed there and which had left its mark on the town. I had a book on the subject and was able to add a paragraph about it.This all leads on to more things that you find you could improve or correct. I'm planning to translate some Argentine film reviews into English. I realized there might be someone on Wikipedia who might help with translations. Is there a directory or a place to ask? Thanks. DiamondRemley39 (talk) 23:46, 12 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@DiamondRemley39: Do you want to publish the translations in the English Wikipedia? That would be unsuitable unless you mean short extracts from the reviews. If you want to recruit free translators for work unrelated to Wikipedia then it doesn't sound suitable either. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:25, 13 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
