editHi friend,
Hope you are doing well. I am new to Wikipedia. I created a draft and then it was declined :( as I did not put up references. Now, I have updated the references, but my all references are in the style of a weblink. Is it ok? Here is the article link-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Kirtimaan_Syal, I am working on these days. Can anyone go through and help me improvise it?
Thanks, Kalyani Kalyan1010 (talk) 05:31, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Kalyan1010, the article was declined because "This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines for academics). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia."
- You need to find some references which show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject. Until you can do that there is little point in improving the format of the article. TSventon (talk) 05:59, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for the prompt response. I have already improvised the article as per the comments. I was worried about the reference style in the current version if it is ok. Since you have raised the point, do you think that article has improved if I compare it with the previous version? Please share your opinion. thanks, Kalyan1010 (talk) 06:28, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Kalyan1010, the article was declined because you had not identified sufficient sources and I think that is still a problem. There is an essay, WP:THREE, which suggests identifying your three best sources to enable a reviewer to assess the sourcing more quickly. Papers written by the subject and interviews with the subject do not count as they are not independent. You can worry about the reference style once you have found sufficient sources. TSventon (talk) 06:57, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Once again, thank you for your time and attention. To understand it better, in the linked review article published in the Journal of Molecular Biology (Elsevier), Jacob et al. discusses Dr. Syal's work on Vitamin C. They discuss, "Interestingly, Syal and colleagues demonstrated that vitamin C inhibits (p)ppGpp synthesis inM. smegmatis, suggestingthat vitamin C can exploit different mechanismsto prevent persister formation in mycobacteria.Although vitamin C andN-acetylcysteine could beused as adjunct therapy for TB as they are non-toxic and, in the case ofN-acetylcysteine, alreadyused in TB patients to help cope with TB drugtoxicity, the quantity required to achieve culturesterilizationin vitro(mM range) may not be appli-cable in TB patients. Nevertheless, these findingssuggest that screening for compounds that increaseM. tuberculosisrespiration could provide a newpath towardsM. tuberculosiseradication....." - Does it count as an Independent source? Also, the felicitation by the Health Minister of India and by Sun Pharma for work in the field of Biomedical Sciences count as an independent source.
- Apologies for too many questions. Hope you don't mind. I am still learning.
- Thank you so much.
- Kalyani Kalyan1010 (talk) 10:20, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Kalyan1010, writing a new article is difficult, I recommend reading Help:Your first article. Also Wikipedia:Notability (academics). I can't access the Journal of Molecular Biology. It looks independent and reliable, but How long is the passage about Syal? Ideally you want a couple of paragraphs each to show significant coverage in three different sources.
- The felicitation by the Health Minister of India is just a name and employer listing, so it is not significant coverage. TSventon (talk) 11:11, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Again, thank you so much.
- I have gone through the article shared by you. It was to the point and informative. I have now revised the article and included three fairly independent citations. In your opinion, are these references enough?
- 1. "ACS Omega (American Chemical Society). Antibiotic Resistance: Current Perspectives. by Anushya Petchiappan and Chatterji D. (2017), 2 (10), 7400-7409. DOI: 10.1021/acsomega.7b01368. Paragraph, "With the aim of synthesizing more potent Rel inhibitors, Syal et al. modified guanosine at this C-2 position to synthesize acetylated and acetylated benzoylated derivatives of guanosine (Figure 5).(21) The acetylated benzoylated compound showed 50% inhibition at 40 μM and 75% inhibition at 100 μM. Addition of this compound led to inhibition of biofilm formation by M. tuberculosis. It also led to decreased long-term survival and cellular (p)ppGpp levels in Mycobacterium smegmatis. The compound was shown to be cell wall permeable in human lung epithelial cells and nontoxic to H460 cells. With information from the crystal structures of (p)ppGpp bound to its synthetases and effector proteins, more such analogues can be designed and synthesized chemically......Figure 5. Design of stringent response inhibitors. Relacin is a structural analogue of ppGpp. Guanosine was chemically modified to synthesize acetylated and acetylated benzoylated derivatives that inhibit Rel. Vitamin C is a natural analogue that resembles GDP in structure...... A recent study showed that vitamin C inhibits M. tuberculosis growth at high concentrations.(22) Syal et al. proposed vitamin C to be an inhibitor of stringent response and demonstrated its binding to Rel (Figure 5).(23) Addition of vitamin C inhibited (p)ppGpp synthesis by Rel in vitro as well as reduced in vivo (p)ppGpp levels and biofilm formation in M. smegmatis. Thus, this opens up opportunities to test vitamin C alone against bacterial infections....."".
- 2. Journal of Molecular Biology (Elsevier), Jacob et al. discusses Dr. Syal's work on Vitamin C. They discuss, "Interestingly, Syal and colleagues demonstrated that vitamin C inhibits (p)ppGpp synthesis inM. smegmatis, suggesting that vitamin C can exploit different mechanismsto prevent persister formation in mycobacteria. Although vitamin C and N-acetylcysteine could beused as adjunct therapy for TB as they are non-toxic and, in the case ofN-acetylcysteine, alreadyused in TB patients to help cope with TB drugtoxicity, the quantity required to achieve culture sterilization in vitro(mM range) may not be appli-cable in TB patients. Nevertheless, these findingssuggest that screening for compounds that increase M. tuberculosis respiration could provide a new path towards M. tuberculosis eradication....."
- 3. "Genes Robles CM, Coin F. Conducting the CTD orchestra. News and Views. Nature Chemical Biology (NPG) 2019 Feb;15(2):97-98". - It is a news and views article. The entire article discusses his group work. (Noncanonical CTD kinases regulate RNA polymerase II in a gene-class-specific manner. Nature Chemical Biology (NPG) 15, 123-131. Nemec, SAK, AA Tseng, K Syal, et al.)
- Thank you so much. Kalyani Kalyan1010 (talk) 00:51, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
- Kalyan1010, I wanted to point you in the right direction in looking for sources that establish notability and hopefully I have done that. I don't assess articles at AfC myself so I don't know exactly where they draw the line. If the third article is an interview with Syal about his own work, that may not be independent coverage. TSventon (talk) 21:45, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for your time and attention. I have included another one. I really appreciate your help, time and attention.
- Anirban Ghosh, Narayansaswamy Jayaraman, and Chatterji D. Small-Molecule Inhibition of Bacterial Biofilm. ACS Omega (American Chemical Society) 2020 5 (7), 3108-3115 DOI: 10.1021/acsomega.9b03695. Paragraph-Both (p)ppGpp and c-di-GMP signaling pathways directly contribute to antimicrobial resistance development and hence can act as a promising therapeutic approach to reduce biofilm population, leading to increased susceptibility to standard drugs. The two second messenger synthetase enzymes, namely, Rel and DGC, are considered to be the most rational drug targets in order to reduce the intracellular concentration of (p)ppGpp and c-di-GMP, respectively. Syal and co-workers previously reported that vitamin C possesses structural similarity with Rel enzyme substrate guanosine diphosphate (GDP) and inhibits ppGpp biosynthesis by directly binding to Rel enzyme in M. smegmatis and subsequently prevents biofilm formation. Another study from the same group has shown that synthetic (p)ppGpp analogues directly inhibit ppGpp biosynthesis and can act as a potential biofilm inhibitor in mycobacteria. Figure 5 in this reference also comes from Dr. Syal’s work.… Kalyan1010 (talk) 05:30, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
Incorrect Information on your site
editPlease revise your commentary on Kelly Brogan. It is completely inaccurate and unhelpful...and clearly not written by someone who has read her work. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 197.89.156.237 (talk) 07:56, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- If you are aware of errors in Kelly Brogan, please describe them on the article's talk page, stating specifically what you believe is wrong, and citing sources that support what you say. Maproom (talk) 08:16, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi. I would like to know how two or more users will be enforced if they were under an interaction ban. Thanks in advance. UnnamedUser 12:44, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Will be forced – what? Your question does not make sense. Try re-wording it. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.205.224.83 (talk) 21:03, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- I think I understand what they mean. How will the IBAN be enforced if the users are simply banned from interacting with each other? ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 21:38, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- We don't have a way to technically (e.g. by blocking) prevent someone from violating an interaction ban, so enforcement is normally through reports of abuse, That is, if another user observes that an editor is violating an interaction ban, they would report that to the administrators' noticeboard for incidents, and then a reviewing administrator would likely block the offender from editing temporarily. Note that if you are reporting an editor on that noticeboard you are required to notify them - you will see instructions when you try to edit the page. Posted New page
editHello,
I recently finished the creation of a new page for Adraint Khadafi Bereal in Sandbox and believe I sent it in for submission. Is this the case? i don't see any way to verify it was submitted for review — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rlellis13 (talk • contribs) 15:39, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Rlellis13 You have not yet submitted the draft for review, you need to click the "Submit your draft for review!" button in the box at the top of the draft. However, if you were to submit it now, it would be rejected quickly, as it is completely unsourced and has little content. A Wikipedia article must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about a person, showing how they meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable person. Please read Your First Article. You may also want to first spend time gaining experience editing existing articles first, to get a feel for what is being looked for. 331dot (talk) 15:44, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Rlellis13: It looks like you created the page in the main sandbox with this edit. The main sandbox gets cleared regularly, as it is used by anyone and everyone. If you copy that edit into your own sandbox at User:Rlellis13/sandbox and then follow @331dot:'s advice you may meet with more success. DuncanHill (talk) 15:49, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Not meaning to be rude but I would assume you meant own and not won. Apologies for this, I do my best to refrain from doing this however sometimes I just can't help it. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 15:51, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Blaze The Wolf: I did, that's why I corrected it it before you posted the above. But I do know what you mean, I have a hard time biting my tongue about some of the typos I see. DuncanHill (talk) 16:01, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

- (edit conflict) @Rlellis13: It appears that you added information to Draft:Sandbox in this edit, replacing the text that states "Please leave this part alone" and "The page is cleared regularly". I moved your text to Draft:Adraint Bereal so you can keep working on it (e.g. add proper footnotes per Help:Referencing for beginners). When you're ready, you can add {{subst:submit}} to the draft to submit it for review.
- If you are Bereal or have any conflict of interest (which I am presuming you have based on the photographs you uploaded as your "own work"), you must declare your COI on your user page. Thanks, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 15:50, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
Why is the television program "Wandavision" on Wikipedia "Did you know..." so frequently?
editOn https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page, the television program "Wandavision" has been included as a Did you know fact multiple times in the past few weeks. I have checked the Did you know queue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Did_you_know/Queue on a few occasions and have never found any facts about the program here.
Any information about this occurrence will be greatly appreciated. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Joncabot (talk • contribs) 16:16, 11 October 2021 (UTC)

Rename username
editPlease help me rename myself to tatius_assuroyo. My username right now is my personal name and l dont want to use it and it be visible for the public for personal reasons. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nemrud91 (talk • contribs) 17:11, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia:Changing username * Pppery * it has begun... 17:12, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- I disagree with that advice. See Wikipedia:Clean start. You CANNOT change usernames without the new account being permanently linked to the old account. And if you still want no connection, you should not use the username "tatius_assuroyo" now either. If you want to unlink yourself, log out, register a new name, and don't edit things you edited before. -- zzuuzz (talk) 17:15, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
