editPage 253 of The Southern Strategy by David K. Wilson
editI want to verify information in Wikipedia article. It is cited as page 253 of: Wilson, David K (2005). The Southern Strategy: Britain's Conquest of South Carolina and Georgia, 1775–1780. Columbia, SC: University of South Carolina Press. ISBN 1-57003-573-3. OCLC 232001108. I have been unable to find an online source for this. Assuming the citation is valid, I only need an image of one page. Can someone help me with this? Humphrey Tribble (talk) 01:01, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- A reasonable-sounding request, Humphrey Tribble, but the place to ask is Wikipedia:WikiProject Resource Exchange/Resource Request. More people there than here are likely to have quick access to academic libraries. -- Hoary (talk) 01:26, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- I believe this might be what you're looking for: https://www.proquest.com/scholarly-journals/southern-strategy-britains-conquest-south/docview/195632576/se-2 Hope this helps. Spaceeditor123 (talk) 20:46, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
New article
editI am working on a new article and I am not yet completed it.
2023 Osaka Prefectural Assembly Elections. I think I did the right think by clicking publish, but does that save it as a draft? How can I save as a draft before publishing. DTesolat (talk) 06:32, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- DTesolat "Publish changes" should be interpreted to mean "save"; it does not mean "publish this to the encyclopedia". It used to say "save", but was changed to emphasize that all edits are public. If you meant to keep it as a draft for now, it can be moved back to draft space. 331dot (talk) 07:46, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- So how would I "save as draft" because I am in the middle of the article? So if click publish, where does it go it "it doesn't mean publish this to the encyclopedia." Then when my article is all done and ready, what button should I push. "Publish" would be OK? DTesolat (talk) 10:35, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- @DTesolat: There is no proper "save as draft" function on wikis. The closest thing would have been to start in the
Draft:
namespace. You are currently editing in mainspace, which is considered the standard part of the encyclopedia, and the revisions you've made are public. There are little to no places on Wikipedia that are considered private. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 14:10, 15 April 2023 (UTC) - Done The page 2023 Osaka Prefectural Assembly Election has been moved to Draft:2023 Osaka Prefectural Assembly Election at your request. --Orange Mike | Talk 14:30, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks so much. it is now done. What do I need to do get it out of draft.
- In the future, if I make a new article, I should write Draft: Name of article, in the title DTesolat (talk) 10:42, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
- You can add {{subst:submit}} to the top of the draft to let Articles for Creation (AfC) reviewers know that it is done and someone will review it eventually.You can do that for future drafts you want to write, though there is the article creation wizard which is a slightly more guided process to get to where you are now. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 16:24, 16 April 2023 (UTC)

- Hello IP user, Welcome to Help Desk. Do you have a question? At HelpDesk we don't review specific content or edits. Rather we answer questions you may have about editing/improving content on Wikipedia or policies you want more information about. Happy editing! ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 08:25, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- I'm looking at Little Richard: Revision history, and I can't figure out which edit you are talking about. If you can, you can try asking the editor who reverted you. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:34, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- I would add that unless you provided a citation to a reliable source for the statement so that readers can verify it for themselves, its reversion was proper. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.213.18.208 (talk) 14:50, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
Uploading a text file
editCan anyone point me to where instructions are for uploading a page? The whole page is outside Wiki but ready formatted to be inserted onto a sub page of my account. Please note: this is NOT an image or picture, just text. Thanks. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 11:35, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Martin of Sheffield: Wikipedia pages are written in wikitext. If your outside page is already in wikitext, then jsut copy and past it into the edit window. If your page is not in Wikitext (e.g, a Word doc, PDF, or HTML) then you will need to convert it to wikitext. I do not know of tools that can do this. -Arch dude (talk) 14:14, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Arch dude, the text is in wikitext ("ready formatted"), but is rather lengthy (around 3,000+ lines). Cut-and-paste is therefore a bit of a pain! That's why I wanted to just upload the file directly into one of my sub-pages. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 15:10, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- Martin of Sheffield I am not aware of any tool that allows you to create a page by uploading a file. Victor Schmidt (talk) 15:24, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- @Martin of Sheffield: On my computer, I can open the file, then select its entire contents by placing the cursor in the displayed file text and using CTRL+A, copy by using CTRL+C, then move cursor to the Wikipedia edit window and paste using CTRL+V. this operation takes about 5 seconds. -Arch dude (talk) 15:42, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks all, I've managed to avoid the file production stage and direct the output to my clipboard. Then it's easy to paste into WP. Much easier that having to scroll down through the file with vi. Cheers, Martin of Sheffield (talk) 16:00, 15 April 2023 (UTC)

Names of foods from countries where a language other than English
editAre the names of foods from countries where a language other than English is used written in italics or without italics? For example, on the "Turkish cuisine" page (which I'm improving), some Turkish names are written in italics and some are not. JackkBrown (talk) 13:46, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- JackkBrown, the policy answer is in MOS:FOREIGNITALIC, which says "Wikipedia uses italics for phrases in other languages and for isolated foreign words that do not yet have everyday use in non-specialized English." I am afraid I wouldn't know which Turkish terms have everyday use and which don't. TSventon (talk) 14:06, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- @TSventon: thus (Italian language), "mozzarella" should be written without italics, while "pizza ai quattro formaggi" should be written with italics; is this correct? JackkBrown (talk) 14:11, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- @JackkBrown:, agreed. For example "Pizza ai quattro formaggi" is italicized in gorgonzola, but the anglicised article title at pizza quattro formaggi is not. TSventon (talk) 14:24, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
{{lang|it|Pizza ai quattro formaggi}}
→ Pizza ai quattro formaggi or{{langx|it|Pizza ai quattro formaggi}}
→ Italian: Pizza ai quattro formaggi as appropriate.- —Trappist the monk (talk) 14:27, 15 April 2023 (UTC)

TOC at Category:Articles to be merged after an Articles for deletion discussion
editDoes anyone here happen to know why the Table of Contents on this category attempts unsuccessfully to classify its entries alphabetically, but merely ends up lumping them all in the "0-9" subset? Felix QW (talk) 16:45, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- Because of this in
{{Afd-merge to}}
:[[Category:Articles to be merged after an Articles for deletion discussion|{{#time:Y-m-d|{{{3|{{{date|}}}}}}}}]]
- where:
{{#time:Y-m-d|{{{3|{{{date|}}}}}}}}
converts the date supplied in{{{3}}}
or|date=
to the numerical format YYYY-MM-DD:{{#time:Y-m-d|April 15, 2023}}
→ 2023-04-15
- That numeric date, a number, is used as the category sort key.
- —Trappist the monk (talk) 16:53, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for that! It sounds entirely reasonable to me to sort the entries by date instead of title, but then we should probably use a different or no particular TOC template, shouldn't we? Felix QW (talk) 16:57, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- I have removed the useless TOC and added an explanation of the sorting with a link showing the dates.[1] PrimeHunter (talk) 17:16, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- By the way, I have a script User:PrimeHunter/Sortkeys.js to display a "Sort keys" link on all category pages. PrimeHunter (talk) 17:22, 15 April 2023 (UTC)

Trying to cite a source but am struggling with the date
editI am trying to cite a Source but can only find the published month and year but not the specific day. It is from a scientific journal so it should be a viable source, but when I try to cite it, it keeps giving me this at the end:
{{cite journal}}
: Check date values in: |date=
(help).
what should I do?
Ecolby24 (talk) 21:05, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- In future, please start by giving a link to the problem page. I had to go through your contributions until I found the problem at User:Ecolby24/Eugenio Pucciarelli/Bibliography. I've corrected the error for you, you had put "Dec. 2021" with a full stop after "Dec". This is incorrect, you should have put "Dec 2021" without the full stop. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 21:13, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- (edit conflict)Ecolby24 The error message emmited by
{{cite journal}}
contains a "help" link which you can use to find more about this error, and in this case also the accepted date formats. Assuming this is about User:Ecolby24/Eugenio Pucciarelli/Bibliography, the only citation there can be changed to{{Cite journal |last=Breuer |first=Irene |date=December 2021 |title=Phenomenology and Humanism in Eugenio Pucciarelli/Fenomenología y humanismo en Eugenio Pucciarelli |url=https://go.gale.com/ps/retrieve.do?tabID=T002&resultListType=RESULT_LIST&searchResultsType=SingleTab&retrievalId=fda1f43a-b2b2-4e21-b620-f9fc7e1954ed&hitCount=1&searchType=AdvancedSearchForm¤tPosition=1&docId=GALE%7CA685884023&docType=Article&sort=RELEVANCE&contentSegment=ZONE-MOD1&prodId=AONE&pageNum=1&contentSet=GALE%7CA685884023&searchId=R1&userGroupName=sara04588&inPS=true |journal=[[ Ekstasis: Revista de Hermenêutica e Fenomenologia]] |volume=10 |issue=2 |via=Gale Academic OneFile}}
which looks like this: Breuer, Irene (December 2021). "Phenomenology and Humanism in Eugenio Pucciarelli/Fenomenología y humanismo en Eugenio Pucciarelli". Ekstasis: Revista de Hermenêutica e Fenomenologia. 10 (2) – via Gale Academic OneFile. - And, because the source lies behind a paywall:
|url-access=subscription
. - So:

Undo issue
editI am trying to undo a change to the article Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds but when I try to do so I get a page saying "Editor is now loading", but nothing happens. It also gives you a link to click on if the editor doesn't appear, but when I click on this I get an error. I had the same issue trying to undo an edit on the Kate Bush page, although that has now been done by someone else. I only started having this issue today - does anyone know what might be causing this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mark and inwardly digest (talk • contribs) 22:18, 15 April 2023 (UTC)

Correcting an error
editOn the page of French artist Jacqueline Lamba, there is an error/misconception about her epitaph. The entry reads that the epitaph "The night of the sunflower" reflects her interest in light, even at the end of her life. I am a friend of her daughter, Aube, who chose the epitaph "La nuit du tournesol" because it is the title of the poem by her father, Andre Breton, that brought her parents together. I added that information to Jacqueline's Wikipedia entry, but wonder if and how the previous erroneous statement about her epitaph could be removed. Thank you, Janice Roddenbery 2600:4040:A2C0:3600:FCC9:FCC7:A030:8E5A (talk) 22:53, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hello. You need to add a reference to a reliable, published source. Your account of your conversation with her daughter is original research, which is not permitted on Wikipedia. Cullen328 (talk) 23:02, 15 April 2023 (UTC)
