King of Queens

OK. There is a bit of a back-and-forth that I cannot seem to alleviate via History Summary. I took it to the Talk Page and cited WP policy and article guidelines with examples; but now I am being accused of bullying (which is a first) and three revert rule: [1]. How can I invite the unregistered editor to the Talk Page? Furthermore, WP:ONUS to include this character has not been met in comparison to the hundreds of other cast members not listed. Thoughts? I am the IP editor in question. You didn't really cite WP policy apart from WP: Onus. And in one very case you simply wrote "Wrong" and reverted my edit. I deemed that bullying. Nevertheless, if you read the most recent edit on the page, you will see I decided to step away from the issue. I even already reverted my own changes, said I did not want to edit war, and have decided to back-off completely. This is not me conceding you are right. I still think you are incorrect and I gave my reasons, cited Wikipedia's own article on recurring characters, and continue to disagree with you. But I've decided it's simply not worth battling out on my end. So, as I promised in my edit, I have indeed backed off and will not be making further changes to the article. I won't be discussing this further on the talk page and you can consider this message my final say on the matter. Maineartists did not "simply write 'Wrong'". They wrote "Wrong. Do not reinstate unless you bring it to the Talk Page and gain consensus for this particular character. WP:ONUS has not been proven." They also started a discussion on the talk page, as recommended for such disputes. The IP editor has not responded there. Maproom (talk) 08:15, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

I did mention they mentioned WP: Onus but my point was the bulk of the reason for that reversion was simply "Wrong". Yes, they added the talk page mention and WP:Onus but the bulk of the reason for removal was "wrong". And no mention was made of the Wiki article I cited on Recurring characters. I felt bullied and dismissed as an IP editor. The user also put up not just one but two very definitive posts on the talk page that I felt there was simply no room for discussion by the time I got there and I would not be heard. Anyway, I removed my own edits in the end - and decided not to keep adding it like I also said above. I wanted to help add information and I felt I was instantly dismissed and it came across as rude. I am sorry that you felt bullied by my History Summary. In retrospect, perhaps I could have done without the word "wrong" in seeing that you just joined WP two days ago: July 1. Is this correct? For this, I apologize. WP:NEWBIES I must say, for having just joined, you have quite the command of WP policy, guideline, terminology (three revert rule) and have even created a full article that has just been accepted. That is quite the feat in just 2 days! Congratulations. That being said, the Talk Page is a place better served for a discussion rather than within the History Summary. That is why after the second revert, I started the discussion. Although I have been here at WP for some time, I did not know how to "ping" an unregistered editor. My Talk Page "posts" were not definitive, but simply stating my points. You, along with every other editor at WP, have the equal right and say to state their points when it comes to a discussion on the Talk Page. You could have just as easily stated a definitive case and even gained consensus for inclusion. I hope in the future you will choose to accept invitations to continue a discussion on the Talk Page and prove your point by WP policy, guideline and community consensus. Cheers. Template boxes

Vandalism help request from 110521sgl

I have noticed some vandalism at Carnival of Santiago de Cuba. Namely, a multitude of (clearly intentionally) disruptive revisions have gone unreverted or only partially fixed, but it's incredibly hard to tell the good from the bad with all the further edits and revisions that have happened since. For example, "July 69" and "Fiestyou gayas de" have persisted through multiple reverts. In addition, the article itself requires cleanup for multiple issues, like the fact that sources are given as parenthesized plain-text sections instead of references. By "my page" I assume you mean our article about you. Since you've only done one edit with this IP and havn't identified which page you are talking about no-one can help you. Furthermore, you need to understand that aticles must be built from reliable sources, and you would have to point to such a source for the enyone to edit the article. Strong password and sockpuppet

To prevent my account being a sockpuppet, do I have to use strong password? Does changing it to strong password is the only option reduce the chance of being sockpuppet? Why accounts with weak passwords are more vulnerable to sockpuppet? Vitaium (talk) 14:24, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:10,000 most common passwords. Definitely avoid these, as they will make a hacker's life very easy. It's also important to use good antivirus software to prevent keylogging etc.--♦IanMacM♦ ^{(talk to me)} 15:32, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

Request for assistance

I cannot do much today as I have just managed to edit a small part of Ely hospital. However I do have a brain tumour (not cancer). this effects my vision and short term memory. making it difficult to remember instruction. I will therefore try to contact you later this week. It is possible that I have not carried out the editing correctly. If that is so, I am sorry I am also 79 yrs of age so not too good on computers. Although a bit of interesting info for yourselves. I joined the WRAC when I was 171/2 in Jan1962. After my basic training and Pay Corp training I was posted along with 29 other girls to RAPC Worthy Down. At that time the pay information of all Royal Artillary staff was being transferred onto computer. Anyway my particular interest in RAF Hospital Ely is that I was admitted 1.5.73 to deliver twins. As the result of an error I almost died and one of my twins did die. To add to this tragedy I was not allowed to see her and nobody told me what happened to her. Even now the MOD try to obstruct me by saying "can't find your papers". .Well Addenbrookes hospital traced the grave for me and I have also informed the MOD that I have paper work. I have travelled to the MOD in London twice but get escorted out. A MOD Dr was going to meet with me to see my proof but then changed his mind. For many years I did not know what had happened to my baby girl and nobody will help me. I was discharged 30.573. with rash over 90% of body left arm swollen due to incident when having 8hr iron infusion and one baby. If you would like to see proof of this for the section re functions please let me know. The other article I have edited a long time ago was about Style Children's home I was there from 3rs of age till about 9 with my siblings. My sister and younger brother used to go to the laundry with their sheets. I'm sure i've done this incorrectly but will to to better. Don't how to put in title in topic. talk a lot re brain tumour (Dr said nothing wrong, hospital said TIA). Sorry. I was going to just title it Births in RAF Hospital Ely. Obtaining a Wiki Page

Why does the AFM & SAG-AFTRA Intellectual Property Rights Distribution Fund aka AFM & SAG-AFTRA Fund not have a Wiki Page? Is it because someone at Wiki doesn't know that it is a separate an distinct business from the two Unions listed in its name? We have submitted articles, Ads, and even links to our site from other companies such as this one https://register.soundexchange.com/#!/heir

Please let me know what we need to do as the PR firm we hired does not seem to be getting anywhere with you guys. SidSyd (talk) 17:29, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

We don't have "wiki pages" here, we have articles. This is not semantics, but an important distinction. Articles are typically written by independent editors wholly unconnected with the subject. Without knowing the specific edits involved, it's hard to say, but not all organizations meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable organization. It depends on the coverage in independent reliable sources. Please see your user talk page and also read WP:COI. 331dot (talk) 17:35, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

In this context, I don't think that "wiki page" could mean anything other than "article". (True, I have just today edited a wiki page that's not an article, but I doubt that SidSyd's complaint is about the lack of "Draft:AFM & SAG-AFTRA Intellectual Property Rights Distribution Fund".) However, if I'm wrong and "wiki page" is indeed a misnomer for "article" (to the point where "We don't have 'wiki pages' here"), and the difference is not semantic, then how about "What you call 'wiki pages' we call 'articles'"? -- Hoary (talk) 22:09, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

If you hired a PR firm to get yourself a Wikipedia article I'm afraid to inform you that you have wasted your money. Wikipedia articles are created for subjects which are sufficiently notable according to our guidelines. A business being incorporated, registered, or otherwise "official" has no bearing on that. Unless and until this particular fund meets the guidelines (in short: has received significant, independent coverage in reliable secondary sources), an article will not be accepted. Confused about sighted version - German wikipedia page edits aren't appearing

I was asked to edit a person's wikipedia pages in several languages. I edited the geman page, inserting the translation in the appropriate spaces yet my edits have not shown up. I get a notification about a sighted version, this is what is says

"Die gesichtete Version wurde am 17. März 2023 markiert. Momentan gibt es 1 Änderung, die noch gesichtet werden muss."

Is there anyone who could tell me what it means or if there's something I can do for the proper version (my edits, which have been approved by the person who is the subject of the page) to appear?

I also tried doing minor edits today and when I go to save, it tells me I'm not logged in, despite being logged in. Merrigio (talk) 18:20, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

@Merrigio:

1. You say you were "asked to edit a person's wikipedia pages in several languages". If you were asked by the person in question, or by someone connected to them, please be aware of the policy on conflicts of interest. Make sure to declare your conflicts and to abide by the policies for COI contributors, or your account is likely to be unlocked.
2. Also, be aware that except in cases of removing actively false information, the person the page is about has roughly no say over what belongs on the page.
3. By "sighted" I assume you are just giving a very literal translation of the German gesichtet. What they appear to be saying is that your edit will not appear publicly until it is reviewed. That is probably due to this being a new, untrusted account, but I don't know enough about German-language Wikipedia policies to be sure (more so if it couldn't detect your login).
4. You'll need to take up any questions about the German-language Wikipedia on the German-language Wikipedia. This is the English-language Wikipedia.
5. While being logged into one Wikipedia should typically log you into the others, it doesn't always work.

deWP has enabled a kind of hybrid of pending changes and extended confirmed. Edits by accounts younger than 30 days and with less than 150 edits (with some variations) are flagged thus and must be reviewed ("gesichtet") before going live. Not sure how much joy they are getting out of it, but it's been in effect for quite a while IIRC. --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 08:50, 5 July 2023 (UTC)

How to submit an article for approval

Hi there, I was aiming to submit a draft of an article for approval and accidentally made it live instead — I apologize, rookie mistake. Is there a way to turn it from a live article into a draft submitted for approval? Thank you very much! Marsrocks6779 (talk) 19:02, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

• @Marsrocks6779: I assume this is about Trillium Technologies. I've moved it back to Draft:Trillium Technologies.
• A couple of comments even at a glance: (1) it is rare that external links belong inline in the text of the article and (2) very little there appears to be footnoted to indicate any source for the information. If this is just an early draft, that's OK, but certainly shouldn't be the case in a "live" article.- Jmabel | Talk 19:10, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

    @Jmabel, in the history portion of the article, nothing is listed. So that's out. Five of the seven external links link to homepages of websites. That's out. The last two external links in the history section have stuff which could be used as a source, but they're primary sources not third-party. So that's out.

What's the best way to cite a book several times in an article?

How do I go about getting it to look like this in the "References" section: 3. ^ a b c Bagley 2007, pp. 3-9 ??? Does this example mean that these three cites (a b c) all refer to pages 3-9 in Bagley's book? If so, is there a way to get it to end up looking like this (i.e., in this format) if the pages are different? Also, if I want to cite two or more non-contiguous pages or non-contiguous sequences of pages from the same book after a particular sentence, how do I do that? Thanks! Was Kisevalter Nash? I sorted that out once or twice when it was in draft and hoped that would prove to be a set of templates for you. I've been meaning to check back on the live version, I'll try to get it done in the next day or so. In the mean time, look at the {{sfn}} entries. You'll see something like {{sfn|Bagley|2007|pp=3–9}}. This will be repeated at the three locations identified by a, b and c. If you are wanting different pages, the just use "p=8" for example, the templates will do the rest for you. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 20:01, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

Outdated Audio Readings of Articles

I was looking at the Rush (band) article and I noticed that the audio reading is from 2009.. Is there a time frame as to when audio readings of articles are removed from articles? 14-years is a long time to keep that within the article. Mr. C.C., you can find more about spoken articles at Wikipedia:WikiProject Spoken Wikipedia. You can find a list of such articles at Wikipedia:Spoken articles, which shows that many of these recordings are very old. The philosophy underlying my original answer is Wikipedia:Be bold. I suspect it's an uncompleted citation of the article's Ref [3], which is cited in 3 other places. A long-time editor who is an assiduous contributor but has difficulty with the more technical aspects of Wikipedia has recently been editing that article.
