two tables

edit

Is there a way to have two tables side by side? I can't find the wiki markup that might work. The kind of table I'm referring to is the one found here minus the style and comments columns. It's for a different historic district article. APK whisper in my ear 04:05, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think you could achieve this by putting the two tables inside one outer table with one row and two cells. But I really wouldn't recommend putting two tables side by side. Have you considered how it would look on a mobile device? Maproom (talk) 07:00, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh yeah didn't think of the mobile thing. Ok thank you. APK whisper in my ear 07:02, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@APK: See Help:Table#Side by side tables for a method where one drops below the other on narrow screens. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:55, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@PrimeHunter: Awesome thank you. I'll try to figure that out. APK whisper in my ear 03:30, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Species article based on one good source

edit

Is it acceptable to create an article for a newly described species that so far only appears in one source (its description?) The source is extensive and detailed but since the species is so new there's not really any other sources save some species databases that reference the description. Brendansoloughlin (talk) 04:08, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It might be WP: Too soon; perhaps just a draft for now, until more is published about the subject? --136.56.52.157 (talk) 06:49, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What is the species?--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:01, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Neuroterus valhalla. I realize now that there are several news reports about it (it was found on Rice University campus and is only the 2nd species to be described along with a full genome sequenced). So there are more sources Brendansoloughlin (talk) 16:17, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
See Wikipedia:Notability (biology).   Maproom (talk) 07:03, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Tens of thousands of new species are described every year, so they would need to be individually notable to be included in Wikipedia. Shantavira|feed me 08:33, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is the 2nd animal and first insect to be deacribed along with its entire genome sequenced. Would that make it notable? Brendansoloughlin (talk) 16:18, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Brendansoloughlin: you might want to add it it Wikispecies first, if you can figure out the inclusion criteria over there. I'm not certain after a cursproy search. -Arch dude (talk) 16:03, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
added! Neuroterus valhalla - Wikispecies (wikimedia.org) Brendansoloughlin (talk) 02:27, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Note that the typical news article is not reliable for such a topic — it's written by an expert in fast writing whose biology knowledge is no more than the average man on the street, and it's reviewed by an editor who's similarly ill-informed about biology. If you're using a news article, be sure to rely on one whose author is an expert. Nyttend (talk) 20:59, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Redirect to draft page

edit

The article Jamie Chalker has been draftified, leaving four or five redlinks, also may be the object of a casual search, as the topic is of current interest. There is nothing seriously wrong with Draft:Jamie Chalker as it stands, certainly not in the NPOV or BLP direction. Is it OK to create a redirect pending reassessment? Doug butler (talk) 04:37, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No. Redirects from mainspace to draftspace are subject to speedy deletion. But nothing's stopping you from moving the draft to mainspace yourself if you feel it is worthy of being in mainspace. * Pppery * it has begun... 04:42, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Archiving a source that is inaccessible from archiving websites

edit

I'm supposed to post this to Help talk:Archiving a source, but that page is little-watched.

[1] is a highly valuable source about highway transport in Xinjiang but archiving websites cannot reach it. How do I properly archive a site that appears inaccessible outside Mainland China? ibicdlcod (talk) 07:44, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Could you download it and upload it to somewhere like Archive.org? I can't download it.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 07:54, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Update: It is now here but it is in Chinese so I can't say much about it. However, it could now be uploaded to Archive.org.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 09:06, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Italics in the title. Page: Brockhaus Enzyklopädie

edit

Good morning, could someone remove the italics from the title of the "Brockhaus Enzyklopädie" page? Wikipedia page titles should not contain italics (if I'm not mistaken. JackkBrown (talk) 08:01, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you think it should not be in italics? See Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Titles of works. Shantavira|feed me 08:04, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Shantavira: I was wrong. Thanks for pointing out this umpteenth page of the style manual; it's one of the very few I had not read. JackkBrown (talk) 08:07, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Parliament Template

edit

Hello, altogether,

does anyone know, when the parliament template (Template:Parliament diagram) will be working again?

Thanks Alektor89 (talk) Alektor89 (talk) 12:30, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It is working. What isn't is the underlying {{Graph:Chart}}, as the messages at {{Parliament diagram}} show. You can check on the {{Graph:Chart}} problem at WP:VPT#Graph_extension_disabled_per_immediate_effect. Bazza (talk) 12:38, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Linking a Wikipedia entry with a company profile in Google.

edit

How can I link a entry on Wikipedia with a company profile on Google (company entry and company profile). 5.226.109.122 (talk) 12:52, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

That's not an appropriate thing to link from Wikipedia. Wikipedia guidelines at Wikipedia:External links allow for basically a link to the company webpage, and that's it. --Jayron32 12:56, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Web page Palme d'Or ‎ →‎Multiple Nominations missing

edit

I cannot find the page Palme d'Or→‎Multiple Nominations which I was editing earlier. Has it been removed? Princehal (talk) 13:36, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Princehal, the entire section was removed on January 17th 2020 by Ribbet32 with this edit, with the edit summary "Multiple nominations: there are no nominations at Cannes; unreferenced, WP:NOR)". Maproom (talk) 13:54, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
True, but it could just be reworded to say: "multiple films in competition". Princehal (talk) 15:42, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why blacklist URL soar . earth ?

edit

soar . earth - triggered a blacklist protection filter....0mtwb9gd5wx (talk) 17:52, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, 0mtwb9gd5wx. It is because of excessive spam links to that website. Take a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Spam/LinkReports/soar.earth. Cullen328 (talk) 19:07, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please tell me how to get permission for the photo of Harriet Tubman at your page: Harriet Tubman I wish to have permission to use this photo of Harriet Tubman to create a pencil drawing of her. Please help me get permission for this drawing using this photo. Many thanks. 71.26.74.33 (talk) 20:26, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fairly sure you don't need anyone's permission to sketch Harriet Tubman. The image in the article is in the public domain, so it is free to use. 331dot (talk) 21:21, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Any photo published over 95 years ago is in the public domain and is unrestricted by copyright. Harriet Tubman died 110 years ago. Cullen328 (talk) 21:26, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
hi IP user! in general, most images in Wikipedia are free to use (and derive and use commercially) with a few guidelines at most. If you're on desktop, you can click on the image to see what license it uses (located on the bottom-right of the popup, or click on the More details button to view the full license). If the license doesn't say "fair use" or "non-free media" (of which there are relatively few of, only used when nothing else can be used), you can use it immediately as long as you follow the licensing terms. happy sketching! 💜  melecie  talk - 00:50, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
