editReferencing an inflation calculator
editHi there, after editing Wikipedia for 20 years, I realised I don't know how to best reference an inflation calculator. So for example, when I quote a figure of (Australian) £258 from 1946, handy calculator from the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) tells me the 2023 equivalent is $AUD21,625.87.
How do I cite this though? The link given above doesn't go directly to the result it gave me, just to the calculator itself. Thanks! Roisterer (talk) 00:38, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- Roisterer you can use Template:Inflation, which has built-in data sets. TSventon (talk) 00:56, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks @TSventon, much appreciated. Roisterer (talk) 00:59, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
Follow-up question: When using the template (which uses the same RBA calculator I gave the example of above), it says that £258 from 1946 is the equivalent of $AUD 10240 in 2022 figures, which is half the amount given directly by the RBA calculator $20,479.63). I'm presuming this difference is due to the Australian pound begging pegged as worth $AUD 2 when Australia moved to decimal currency in 1965. How do I cite this difference though? --Roisterer (talk) 02:08, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
Magellantv
editCan someone please write up an article on magellantv.com? It is a major streaming documentary site and there is no information about it at all. Mitchflorida (talk) 02:25, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- Why don't you have a go at it? It sounds like you know a bit about it and its content. And looking stuff up to learn how to write articles sharpens your wits. You come out smarter, quicker and better for it! And if it's not perfect, no one's gonna make fun of you. They'll just come along and make it better in a friendly way. Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 04:58, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- I echo Oona's reply in that, if you want an article written, the best way is to write it. However, I would caution that it is a challenging task for people who have not done much editing (I see you have been around a long time, Micthflorida, but have not made a large number of edits). If you want to try it, please read your first article, and remember that absolutely the first task in creating an article is to find sources that are reliable (not social media, forums, or wikis), independent (nothing written, published, or sponsored by magellantv, or based on an interview or press release from them) and have significant coverage of them, not just passing mentions, or routine corporate activities. If you cannot find several such sources, then they do not meet Wikipedia's criteria for notability, and you will be wasting your time to do anything further on it. Need to find more sources for a song
editHey guys I need your help. I'm trying to find more sourced genres for the song "Tempted" by Squeeze, can you help me find some. Iamthegoat524 (talk) 03:06, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Iamthegoat524 Wikipedia:Reference desk/Entertainment is a better venue for this, since that's what they're suited for. Cheers Relativity 04:33, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

ShortDesc?
editI've only been editing since last July and I never knew this was a thing. I mean, I did see a ghosty-grey, floaty thingie sometimes when I was editing, but lots of Wikipedia-under-the-hood confuses me to the point of frustration, so just I edge away slowly and carefully. But a few days ago I was forced to edit from my phone using the app. Lo and behold!
So I read up on it. Last night, I activated ShortDesk in my Preferences and my Vector 2022 skin was already activated, but I haven't seen short descriptions at all yet. No cute little buttons, nothing. What have I not understood? What do I need to do? Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 04:55, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- Uh... never mind. It works fine, just not as I was expecting. *blush* Oona Wikiwalker (talk) 06:52, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

Accidentally messed up a few thing (maybe?)
editHello. I recently attempted to move Nemesis (rollercoaster) to Nemesis, and then create a seperate page of Nemesis Reborn. To do this, I moved the inactive Nemesis article about a Greek Goddess to Nemesis (Goddess), but this has caused some redirect issues. Could someone more experienced have a look at it? WikiHmmmm... (talk) 11:02, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- WikiHmmmm..., what do you mean by "inactive Nemesis article"? -- Hoary (talk) 11:37, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hoary, possibly they think that Nemesis (Goddess) is not an active force in the world. In any case, the goddess was agreed to be the primary topic in 2018 and should not have been moved without discussion. TSventon (talk) 11:51, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- WikiHmmmm... I have moved Nemesis (Goddess) back to Nemesis, if you want to move it please start a WP:Requested move. In any case Nemesis Reborn is unlikely to be the primary topic for Nemesis. TSventon (talk) 12:01, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

Discrepancies in different language versions of pages
editWhat mechanisms is there to handle ideology based, intentional discrepancies in different language versions of pages?
The most obvious example I found is the Ukranian page for the Azov Brigade a Ukranian Neo-Nazi militia. However, the word "nazi" or "Neo-Nazi" is only used ONCE in the Ukranian version, while talking about Russia's accusations. In contrast the English version uses it almost 140 times. This isn't a mistake, the discussion board makes it clear its ideological, with some going as far to attempt to change the English version to "honor the heros fighting for our country.". How is this allowed and why hasn't any experienced editor stopped this? What can we do to stop these obviously ideologically motivated and dishonest attempts at white-washing groups and individual? This is true for all pages related to the group, meaning almost hundreds to thousands of different pages that have been white-washed. I'm new to interacting with different language pages so please forgive me if this isn't the right place. 15:21, 14 February 2024 (UTC) Dogucat (talk) 15:21, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- They are not (or at least very rarely) "different language versions of pages". They are independently produced and curated pages in different Wikipedias. The English language WP cannot control what the Ukranian WP says or does. Likewise the Ukranian WP cannot control the English WP. Here we can only control editors and discussions on "our" (ie English) WP. You need to go to the Ukranian WP to complain about the page on their WP. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 15:28, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- I know that they are seperate productions, even separate corporate entities, Im just wondering if I there are any mechanism to complain outside of the Ukranian Wiki, or anyone that has any oversight over it. Because from how it looks, the people at UA wiki are very much complicit, also, I dont know Ukranian. Why does wiki even allow for such entities to be seperate without any method to stop them from becoming propaganda pieces. Dogucat (talk) 15:37, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Dogucat: There is exactly zero pan-wiki formal control at the volunteer level. The only pan-wiki oversight would need to come from the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF). They run the hardware and software, among other things, and they have certain rules. -Arch dude (talk) 16:42, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

Filter own User contributions for a single article
editHello,
Is there a way to filter my own User contributions list for a single article? Thanks. Seaweed (talk) 16:57, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Seaweed You just need to go to the "history" tab of the article you are interested in and at the top you'll see a tool link to do this. It takes you to a page like this. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:14, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

Need to Update the Profile Content
editHi, I am Vanisri from Bizmatics Inc. We have a profile page on Clinfowiki with outdated information from 2015. We haven't made any changes since then, and unfortunately, we don't have the login credentials for the account. The profile page also doesn't seem to have any edit options available.
We would like to update the content on our profile page. Could you please advise on how we can get access to edit the information or contact someone who can help us? We've included the link to our profile page below for your reference,
Profile Link: https://www.clinfowiki.org/wiki/index.php/PrognoCIS_EMR
We appreciate your assistance with this matter. Vanisrivani (talk) 17:14, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- We can only help you with issues related to the English Wikipedia, not other websites. 331dot (talk) 17:19, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- The page link that you have given above looks like it is a Wikipedia page because it uses the same Mediawiki software. However, it isn't a Wikipedia page because it is on a completely different website, https://www.clinfowiki.org/ . This means that Wikipedia cannot help on this; you could try contacting them but I can't see any obvious way to do this on their website.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 17:25, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Vanisrivani: Clinfowiki appears to be inactive. https://www.clinfowiki.org/wiki/index.php/Special:Log shows no log actions since 7 May 2023. Regarding ChatGPT
editI've read that using ChatGPT is generally frowned upon here, usually due to its lack of references and expertise, among other things. But can it be used for the purpose of fixing up how something is written? Making it be written in a way that is more interesting to the reader? Everywheretheygo (talk) 19:54, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- See WP:LLM. Personally I would not touch these tools with a ten foot pole while writing an article, but that's just me.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 20:04, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Everywheretheygo, I've found that LLMs are pretty bad at writing in an encyclopedic tone, which tends - on purpose - to be drier than more casual styles (see WP:TONE). But perhaps others have had different experiences. 57.140.16.1 (talk) 20:09, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- I agree. ChatGPT and Bard (now called Gemini) are known for producing good readable prose but any attempt they might make to improve existing prose is also likely to change the meaning.
- Yesterday I had a frustrating couple of hours conversing with one of these AIs, asking it to provide me with examples of a certain kind of book, and each and every one given turned out to be incorrect. What a waste of my time. ~Anachronist (talk) 22:54, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
How do I make a new wiki page?
editCreate Drewh17 (talk) 21:40, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, Drewh17. Creating a new encyclopaedia article is one of the most challenging tasks there is in editing Wikipedia, and when people try it before they have spent time learning how Wikipedia works, they often have a miserable and frustrating time.
- My advice to new users is always to spend a few months making improvements to some of our six million existing articles, and learning about Wikipedia - especially about verifiability, reliable sources, neutral point of view, and notability.
- When you understand something about those concepts and how they apply, you can look at your first article for how to proceed to create a new article. Note that this starts by finding suitable independent reliable sources about your chosen subject: if you cannot find those, then it will be a complete waste of your time to try and write an article about the subject. Unapproved or untruthful content
editWhat does wiki do to improve the accuracy of the things being said about people? KnowledgeGod17 (talk) 21:50, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- @KnowledgeGod17 We editors follow the policy at WP:BLP. If you see inaccurate information or information which does not have an inline citation to a reliable source, it can be removed immediately. That is part of our usual processes. The content of any article can be discussed on its Talk Page until consensus is reached as to what should appear. Mike Turnbull (talk) 22:27, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
- Understood and after requesting that the person is still yet providing inaccurate information. Sharing very false information I am looking over how to gain page protection and have sent emails. This is our Father this is our Culture and it will not be demeaned. Peace KnowledgeGod17 (talk) 22:32, 14 February 2024 (UTC)

edithow do I add my business to Wikipedia Texaswinery (talk) 22:58, 14 February 2024 (UTC)
