Wikipedia can well be called the Modern Digital World Library. For the first time in the history of civilization, humans have managed to create a repository for the world's knowledge managed by the world's people. This constitutes a revolutionary step in the way we maintain our stores of knowledge; from a few sheaves of papyrus, to parchment and ink, to palatial libraries owned by wealthy emperors, public libraries constantly threatened by vandalism and neglect to finally having a common place for collecting information. I feel obliged to help protect and improve this most wonderful endeavor.

I benefit greatly from wikipedia as a "first source" for further investigating literature on issues I'm not familiar with (I'm an evolutionary biologist), and would like to contribute. I've studied cetaceans a lot in the past, so am keen to have a look at those.

I love to learn, and enjoy contributing. I’m an editor who has worked as an engineer, architect and more–and trained in the arts. Active since August, I have much to learn about how things are done on Wikipedia.
