Wikipedia:UK Wikipedians' notice board/Listed buildings
Please add any useful information on listed buildings here. Be informal - this is not an article, just a collection of useful information.
I have been looking at listed buildings. I think we should have articles on all grade I listed buildings (although some can at least start in groups - see for example Bedford Square where there are technically several listings, or Highgate Cemetery where different parts are listed differently - no need to split right now. There are about 6000 grade I listed buildings, and a similar number of grade II*, and very large numbers of grade II (eg pretty much everything 18th century or earlier).
Finding them is not always easy. Some local authorities give you lists online, others only on paper (they are obliged to give you the information however). If you register on [Images of England] you can access most of them via the search - if you dont register you only get ones with pictures.
Wikipedia has articles with lists of all Grade I and Grade II* buildings by historic county in England and Wales and all Category A buildings by county in Scotland. See templates at foot of this page.
- Category talk:Grade I listed buildings
- Category:Grade I listed buildings
- Category:Grade II* listed buildings
- Category:Grade II listed buildings
Possibly also Scheduled Ancient Monuments should be included too.
And note also that many Anglican churches still in use may still have A, B or C classifications if classified prior to 1977. These roughly correspond to I, II* and II.

edit(Currently from English Heritage GI/II*s - a bit odd because the biggies like St Paul's and The Bank or even St Bride's and St Gile's Cripplegate - can't even find them on the Grade A/B/C thing - are missing on the DB search, but this seems very incomplete even excluding archaeology. I'm letting it stand for now, though, perhaps there's an explanation Tarquin Binary)
