English Heritage
editHaving registered on Images of England, I don't think the results are complete, but I have one surprising Grade I for Hackney as a result. Tarquin Binary 18:14, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
- I'm certain this is very incomplete now, but I suspect that the entries they do have are valid. Only redlinking Grade Is now, but II*s useful for reference. I find it extrenely curious that Sutton House is II* while the relatively less important St. Columba's church is I. And I do not believe that the main parish churches are not all at least Grade II*. Note that IoE only gives 346 Grade I listings for the whole of London, can't be right. Tarquin Binary 18:29, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
- Odd, must be more (200 in Westminster, City must have a lot too). Justinc 19:14, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
- Yup - I remember you quoting me that figure. Frankly I'd expect at least 50% more in the City. Might ask my friend who took a lot of the EH Hackney/Islington shots. You would think this listing info would be much more transparent. Tarquin Binary 19:24, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
- I guess we could email English Heritage. Still unsure if I will sign up to take pics for them. Justinc 00:15, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- I think I should put you in touch with Peter - well, I too would honestly like to ask him more about his experience as a photographer for them. I find it hard to believe that they have sent people out to image Grade II bollards and phone boxes and have not got an authoritative Grade I (or Grade II*) list - the vibe seems odd to me. (And there be Grade I pix missing, even for the ones they've got on their database, while in some areas every Grade II trivium is pictured.)

- Re:email - I'm going to ask Hackney Archives :) then Planning :( in my area. Later though. Tarquin Binary 00:57, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- Quick addendum - I'm pretty sure that what EH *do* have on their list is listed appropriately, it's the omissions I suspect that are the prob. I have some non-uploaded pix of a couple and can easily take the others on the list, so can at least cover these for WP (so in some cases WP will have pix and EH won't.) But this is one out of 32 London boroughs (+ City), never mind the entire rest of the UK. Tarquin Binary 01:03, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- And more - the database classification on the EH site is just not reliable. Found one more G1 Hackney church from a free text search. Plus, as I had already noted, St Leonard's Shoreditch is the old Grade A, but EH do not have a dropdown for Grade A. (Suspect that many old churches may be listed far enough back to have an A Grade, Stoke Newington's main parish churches both have a B, adding them to II*, but do not know if this translates...)
