- Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
- I think the Minor Leagues should have a project too. The American Football League, Arena Football League, Canadian Football League, and College football all have Projects.
Even Australian Rules football has a project.
Support
editAlso, specify whether or not you would join the project.
- BeanieFan11 - I definitely would join. (talk) 22:05, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- PCN02WPS - I'm in. (talk) 01:29, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Murphanian777 - Too busy to help at the moment, but I fully support. Minor football teams are fascinating. (talk)
- GPL93 - I would join as well. Over the summer I created some articles of former players that were well known minor league players, but also passed WP:NGRIDIRON (ex: Tom Bland). Best, GPL93 (talk) 14:00, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Opposed
edit- I applaud the effort to improve the coverage of minor American football leagues, but I don't see any reason why this can't be managed within the existing Wikipedia:WikiProject American football. WikiProject American football has just over 2,000 articles tagged under its domain (see Category:American football articles by quality). This consists mostly of articles about such minor leagues and a handful of articles about general American football topics. Compare that to over 60,000 articles tagged for WikiProject College football (see Category:College football articles by quality) and around 30,000 for WikiProject National Football League (see: Category:National Football League articles by quality). I think it would be more helpful to keep interest and attention consolidated rather than to further disperse it into another related WikiProject. Jweiss11 (talk) 03:34, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- I agree with Jweiss11. WP:WikiProject American football already covers this topic, and the more prominent leagues (i.e. NFL and NCAA football) have their own dedicated projects already. No reason people can't join WP:AMF and do all the proposed editing under their auspices. – PeeJay 11:55, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose, per Jweiss11 and the discussion below. There is no reason that this couldn't be done under the bandwith of the American football project.–UCO2009bluejay (talk) 23:40, 19 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- this diff contributed to my perspective.-UCO2009bluejay (talk) 00:40, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion
editI'm not sure why Aussie rules football is in the discussion here. It's a completely different code. --SuperJew (talk) 12:57, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Agreed. Saying "even Aussie rules has its own project" is like saying "even golf has its own project"! – PeeJay 11:26, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
SuperJew and PeeJay, I don't see the problem with saying "Even Australian Rules Football has a project". This is only a project proposal. Its not like I'm against it. If its really a problem I could remove it. – BeanieFan11 (talk | contribs) 17:21, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Question Is this necessary to have a separate project or would a task force be more suitable? Also what about the UFL, or arguably more major-ish leagues such as the XFL's I and II, the AFLs I-III, the AAFC? I am not opposed per say, just wanted clarification.-UCO2009bluejay (talk) 02:44, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- Also, the discussion traffic at Wikipedia:WikiProject American football which as stated above already covers this project is paltry, especially compared to WP:NFL or WP:CFB-UCO2009bluejay (talk) 02:47, 18 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
- This can be closed as unsuccessful (I had almost completely forgotten about this until I just looked at the project proposals list). BeanieFan11 (talk) 17:19, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
