- Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
The family and relationships group was the most similar, and it is now defunct. I think it was probably too general. I also considered wikiproject children and wikiproject pediatrics but decided to go for parenting first because this is the target demographic for readers of articles to be worked on. The other groups are all academic subjects or too specific.
The point of this group is would be to edit and improve articles that are of importance and of interest to parents. When people become new parents, they do a lot of research, and unfortunately I've noticed that a lot of parenting topics are poorly covered on Wikipedia, and most parents are reading other sources instead (such as Kelly Mom, Baby Center, Mumsnet, Facebook and even Reddit). When I became a parent I used Kelly Mom a lot, noticed an error in an article, and sent her an e-mail asking her to correct it... and two years later, the error is still there! So I would like to see a lot of that content on Wikipedia instead where mistakes can be corrected!
(I actually went and created the group already without realising that this project existed to do this ^-^.)

- important especially to catch articles that fall between WikiProject Med & other WikiProjects. Would also be a great way to get new groups of editors (professional organizations, etc.) who are interested in parenting topics to find an easier way into Wikipedia. -- phoebe / (talk to me) 14:00, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
- I started working on articles related to babies/infants because it looks like much is missing. I would really like to see this project started and organized. I will join. Best Regards, Barbara ✐ ✉ 10:38, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

- Of interest to the supporters for this project might be the absence of adequate material or projects about Birth or Children - there is a death portal, but nothing similar about birth or childhood - if it was in scope I would suggest that those enthusiastic for this project might consider the relatively poor coverage of these issues. The category for childhood has the tags of projects anthropology, sociology and psychology - however a parenting project I think would be much better JarrahTree 10:57, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Resolution
edit@Gkuriger:, @Clayoquot:, @Gandydancer:, @Phoebe:, @JarrahTree:, @Leisurely historian:, @Barbara (WVS):, @The Drover's Wife:. The project has been created at Wikipedia:WikiProject Parenting. However a lot of set-up still needs to be done, namely the creation of the categories for the class (i.e. stub). Feel free to play with the format too - I initially set it up as a WikiProject X project but that didn't work out so it's still pretty bare bones right now.
