Human history has been marked by continual military conflict. Differences among groups, societies and nation states have been played out on the battlefield throughout the ages. Weaponry, tactics, strategies, and the experience of uniformed personnel may change over time, but the fact of war seems to be a constant in the collective human story. Regardless of your personal views on war, it embraces many of the most notable events and people in human history. For these reasons, it is vital that through collaborative work, these events and the people associated with them be documented and preserved.

It can be argued that military history began even before recorded history. The implication is that Wikipedia has thousands of years of military history at its disposal to present to the world with a high standard of verification, writing and presentation. This knowledge exists thanks to the dedicated people throughout the millennia who were passionate and thoughtful enough to chronicle military conflict during and before their lifetimes. It is our ambitious goal to collect this behemoth of knowledge and to use it for the creation and improvement of military history articles on Wikipedia.

There are many articles and topics within our scope, so it is easy to find something that suits you, whether you are interested in the feel of military uniforms, the sound of an exploding hand grenade, the sight of an intense dogfight, or you enjoy studying such topics as the Battle of Thermopylae, the Three Kingdoms, the Berber Revolt, or the Spanish Armada, etc. We also have special task forces set up in our project that will accommodate your interests, and pair you with other users who have the same interests.

In history, a great volume is unrolled for our instruction, drawing the materials of future wisdom from the past errors and infirmities of mankind.
