Russian

edit

Russian language is the state language of the Russian Federation and the most spoken language in the country. Russian Wikipedia contains more articles than all another Wikipedias in languages of Russia. Since almost all residents of Russia understand Russian, it is Russian Wikipedia which is used as a backbone for constructing Wikipedia in other languages. Infoboxes, templates, geographical categorization etc. are ported to other language editions from the Russian one.

Tatar

edit

Tatar language is the second most spoken language in Russia. Majority of Tatar speakers live within Russia & currently use Cyrillic script for writing, as the only one approved by the Russian law of 2002.

That Wikipedia initially started using Zamanalif latin script, currently predominantly in Cyrillic. Following Law "On use of Tatar as a state language in the Republic of Tatarstan", approved by State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan during its 36th session[2] on 24 December 2012[3], the only accepted Latin script for Tatar is Uniform Turkic Alphabet.

Chuvash

The Wikipedia in the Chuvash language has the second article count among Wikipedias in languages of Russia.
