editThe Wikipedia Workshop for Startup Village aims to equip its participants with the rudiments of contributing to Wikipedia, and to introduce Wikipedia as an encyclopaedia and as a concept to them. The workshop is free of cost and open to all entrepreneurs of Startup Village.
About Startup Village
editStartup Village is a not-for-profit business incubator based in Kochi, Kerala. Started in April 2012, the organisation's aim is to launch 1,000 technology startups over the next 10 years and start the search for the next billion-dollar Indian company. It focusses primarily on student startups and telecom innovation. It is India’s first incubator that is funded jointly by the public and private sector. As of October 2013, Startup Village has incubated 450 startups.The promoters of Startup Village are Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, Technopark, Trivandrum and MobME Wireless. Kris Gopalakrishnan, co-founder of Infosys and an IT entrepreneur from Kerala, is the chief mentor at Startup Village.
About the workshop
editWikipedia has become an invaluable destination for millions of Internet users seeking information. However, there are too few people who contribute to Wikipedia. This workshop is aimed at equipping the members of Startup Village to edit Wikipedia and to help them understand the basics of programming.
Important information
edit- As the workshop involves hands-on learning about making contributions to and editing Wikipedia, participants are required to carry a mobile device (laptop, netbook, or tablet).
- We are using the English-language Wikipedia to instruct participants. Before attending the workshop, register on Wikipedia using the Create account link, if you don't have an account already.
- The venue has free Wi-Fi.
