My favorite

edit

This is by far and away my favorite of all the pages I have seen. It is nice to look at, especially the portals. But the best part is that the featured article and the news are side by side. They are the only two things I usually look at on the main page, so I would really miss the old page if the news was moved down like a lot of people are trying to do. --Andrew from NC (talk) 21:35, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, this one's great, but I would drop "Today's highlighted article" and move "On this day" up and back to the right side. –thedemonhog talkedits 01:26, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Very nice, in my top 3. Especially good is that you have the Good article section, unlike most of the other proposals. Keep it up, —dima/talk/ 03:38, 13 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Low-res

edit

The Featured Media box is too narrow; with the current image, there are only 3-4 words per line before the text wraps, making it very difficult to read. This needs to be much wider. Anaxial (talk) 22:48, 8 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I just moved the "Today's Featured Media" section to the bottom of the page, and it now stretches all the way across. Thanks for the feedback! --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 01:37, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes, looks fine now! Anaxial (talk) 16:33, 10 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Source updates

edit

You fixed a lot of syntax issues that were neglected at the beginning. Be careful about yielding too much to popular consent, don't forget this is your idea, your entry — and this is how you show what you can offer to Wikipedia. Nevertheless you've done an amazing job, and I've learned a good amount of fixes from you. Don't try to play it safe with the coding, try new methods and new ways of organization; we aren't trying to reproduce the Spanish Wikipedia's main page in English or otherwise. You may be interested to revisit some of the source code you've extracted, there are some new features and fixes. Here is the link to the documentation, entry, and talk. Good luck. Awkwardly large text

edit

On my system (Safari running under OS X Leopard on a Mac Book Air, using the classic Monobook skin) the text on main page articles is both overly large and in an unsatisfying typeface. Phil Sandifer (talk) 04:47, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I don't understand this comment. What are the "main page articles"? The content on this page? To me, the typeface is the same as the rest of the encyclopedia.. and the same size haha.. Some of the text is smaller.. (Highlighted article - 95% of regular and DYK, ITN, OTD - 90%) Maybe that causes the Featured Article text to appear larger when it is actually regular size. I actually have neither a Mac nor Safari (not until August), so I can't experience the problem firsthand. --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 05:57, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
The text in, for instance, "Today's featured article." In fact, all of the text is appearing larger than it does on the current design (viewing them side by side now) Phil Sandifer (talk) 15:53, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I don't like the font either. Arial looks much better than Verdana. --ざくら 14:01, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I actually didn't even notice the text haha.. when I copied the code over, it already had font-family parameters with it, and I didn't change them. I've just taken all of them out, so your browser should display the default text. I also made a few more changes to the portal list and the sister projects list. --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 16:40, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Much better looking. Phil Sandifer (talk) 17:29, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
You're a Safari user, Phil Sandifer? Can you see the rounded corners? If not that's probably a sign for me and Dudefellamanbra to use -webkit-border-radius in addition to -moz-border-radius. ChyranandChloe (talk) 19:47, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Capitalisation

edit

Looking at the current Main page, you may want to not capitalise all or none of the section headers. I see "Today's Featured Article", but then "In the news". You may just want to choose one or the other, not a combination. SpencerT♦C 00:08, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Actually that was something I'd overlooked. I wanted to capitalize all of the headings. Thanks for pointing that out! :) --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 00:23, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have to say, the header of this one is the best of all of them, It's clear, has the date and articles without exessive taking up of space - Highfields (talk) (contribs) 12:23, 24 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
