Versions of Wikipedia
editList of Wikipedias should be updated to include establishment dates. Thus we can know when the next Wikipedia hits 20. -- 70.31.205.108 (talk) 05:22, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- See Wikipedia:Anniversary. The next are German and Catalan Wikipedias on 16 March. — Wug·a·po·des 00:03, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
- That's the next few. Shouldn't the entire list have such information added to the tables, to show start dates? -- 70.31.205.108 (talk) 02:36, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
Mobile
editDid anyone test this page on mobile (resolutions)? The image is not a fan of displaying itself on small resolutions. --Izno (talk) 06:22, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
- Izno, ack, no, no one seems to have dealt with that before making the page live. I also only just updated the video now that it's on Commons. I'll comment (again) at VPR as that surely has more watchers. {{u|Sdkb}} talk 12:30, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
Discussed today on BBC Radio 4's The World at One, with editor David Gerrard and Stella Wisdom of The British Library: [1] Martinevans123 (talk) 13:41, 15 January 2021 (UTC)

Huge video at Wikipedia 20 page https://wikimediafoundation.org/wikipedia20/
editThe video at https://wikimediafoundation.org/wikipedia20/ is huge, more than 300 MB for a two minute video. I have already reported that at meta wikimedia ([2]), but if someone could notify the relevant people please. Vpab15 (talk) 18:32, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
Happy birthday Wikipedia!
editI hope I've helped as a volunteer editor. --occono (talk) 23:14, 15 January 2021 (UTC)
Happy birthday Wikipedia
editHappy birthday Wikipedia. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to know what we can never get from newspapers and tv stations. Thanks a lot. Alajiga (talk) 04:11, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

A celebratory userbox
editThis user was a Wikipedian on 2021-01-15, Wikipedia's 20th Anniversary |
I made a userbox to commemorate the occasion - User:Dodger67/Wikipedia 20. Please feel free to use it. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 11:11, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- Maybe you could edit it to have a link to Wikipedia:20th anniversary? — Gestrid (talk) 14:15, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- Gestrid I'll try, this is my first ever attempt at creating a userbox. I just copied the wikicode from another box and merely changed the image and text. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 15:39, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Dodger67: You should be able to add a link in the text by doing the same thing that was done to the word "Wikipedian" in the text there. — Gestrid (talk) 15:43, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- Gestrid Done! Is there a way to let users select their preferred date format - DMY or MDY? Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 15:48, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- That's a question for someone else. I'm a a novice when it comes to setting variables in userboxes and templates. — Gestrid (talk) 15:53, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Dodger67: You could user "if" formatting as seen at Template:User Custom Articles Started (open editing to view). Wyliepedia @ 19:31, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
- CAWylie I'm not at all familiar with such coding. How would one do it so that {{User:Dodger67/Wikipedia 20|DMY}} or {{User:Dodger67/Wikipedia 20|MDY}} produce the correct result? Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 06:10, 20 January 2021 (UTC)
- I speak parserfunctions, so I got it to work. I just embedded
{{Date}}
in there and passed the first parameter of the userbox to that template. –Fredddie™ 08:57, 22 January 2021 (UTC) This user was a Wikipedian on January 15, 2021, Wikipedia's 20th Anniversary

- Thanks Fredddie, that's perfect! I'll now expand the documentation to explain the parameters. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:27, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- I think the ISO format should be the default, as it is neutral in terms of ENGVAR. I think it is now ready for general use. Should it be move out of my userspace? How do we "advertise" its availability to the community? Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 08:41, 23 January 2021 (UTC)
- It should be listed somewhere at WP:Userboxes/Galleries but I have no idea where, please help. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 13:17, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
I think the closest non-misc (i.e. not Wikipedia:Userboxes/Wikipedia/Miscellaneous) page where it might fit might be Wikipedia:Userboxes/Wikipedia/Stats and tools/account age? There may be other places it could fit better but I'd have to snoop closer. - Purplewowies (talk) 16:56, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
20th
editWell it's pretty much the 10th anniversary of my first edit from my main account on this site (Feb 2011). Not one wikipedian offered any 'happy 10th anniversairy Kevin' on any of my talk pages. Yet Wikipedians like various admins get barnstars for blocking little naughty schoolboys each week. Me Max and Pat were students during some wikiproject on PIracy. Piracy is a big deal because misogs use it to stifle women like what happens here with certain users cough cough Wor... cough cough Eri....,. Little did I know i'd encounter these dialobical acts here when i first edited on that day February 1 2011. I edited Wikipedia before from ips and the like but never decided to get an account until I did so for class in 2011 with my buddies. Wikipedia taught me the things about piracy, taught my about using the site and taught me real life eamples of 'pirates' (bad users on this site i encountered). As Wikipedia looks to the future it could be well served to read up on the Politics of Piracy and learn from it so things like innocent users like myself being desyopped for no reason by a jealous arb and then have my death faked to cover it up never happens again and to also prevent terrible users like Malleus from ever sighning up here in the first place. ONly then will Jimbo and Larry's vision be fully realized. A pedia free of far right trolls, I can taste it.
