IP editor?

Does this user id: "2601:9:1100:524:74E7:7872:B6C1:FE39" indicate that the editor is using a cell phone? --Greenmaven (talk) 19:21, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

No, that IPv6 address is registered to Comcast, so it's likely a cable modem. Mojoworker (talk) 00:39, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

Checking back in

Hey all. Is this project still being used? I just want to know if anyone is currently taking on students and mentoring them. Y'know, for personal edification. Achowat (talk) 07:07, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

@Achowat: Sure! Our current instructors are listed at Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy/Instructors. Personally, I have a few students, some of which are slacking off a bit :P. --Mdann52talk to me! 08:20, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

A trainer may be inactive

Good day to all,

One of the trainers on the active list, Kharkiv07 (talk · contribs), has been pretty inactive in this field - he has started training with me but has not followed up on my activity. Moreover, another user by the name of Jjjjjjdddddd posted on his talk page to request training, but he didn't respond (his initial request has just been archived. This trainer seems to be inactive on Wikipedia in general and I doubt he should remain listed as an active trainer. Kudpung has informed him of this on his talk page too and if he still doesn't take action, would someone please take his name off the active trainer list (and help me find another?) Thanks so much. <<< SOME GADGET GEEK >>> (talk) 01:14, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

Done. User removed from trainer list. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 08:23, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
Thanks. Jjjjjjdddddd (talk) 00:20, 19 September 2015 (UTC)

Available trainer

As opposed to going to each available trainer and waiting for a response, I am posting here in hopes that someone is willing to take me on. --CNMall41 (talk) 02:07, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

Removal of inactive trainers

I am requesting that both User:Chip123456 and User:Vertium be removed from the Trainer list. Chip hasn't contributed to anything since Sept 10th of this year, and Vertium has been extremely inactive over the past few months. The list needs to be updated.

  Done --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 13:22, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
Kharkiv07 has also seemed to abandon his current CVUA students - see the edit histories of Kharkiv07/CVUA/Some Gadget Geek and Kharkiv07/CVUA/MarkYabloko. As for Titodutta, he's not so inactive so he's taking in most of the training requests. <<< SOME GADGET GEEK >>> (talk) 23:52, 27 November 2015 (UTC)

Response: Rather than actually reach out to inactive trainers and see if there's a reason they're inactive or if they might become active again, it's a much better approach to just delete them. My inactivity has nothing to do with time or availability, only the "leadership" of the Academy. I train in real life... so this behavior that WP continues to exhibit of exclusion shall end up killing the project. I used to donate money to the project (a lot). This year, zero. But you'll probably read this and say "good riddance", which is more the pity. Vertium When all is said and done 15:29, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

You've only made 18 edits in 2015. That is a clear indication of inactive. --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 05:40, 4 December 2015 (UTC)
and your comments are the least welcome of all User:Kudpung. You're the primary reason I'm inactive in the project. So in this case, your behavior causes me to leave the project and then you criticize me for leaving the project. Irony. In any case, I'm fully aware of my activity level and your pointing it out is both unwelcome and unnecessary. I don't need you being "big brother". Your supervisory attitude is the reason I'm inactive. Bye. Vertium When all is said and done 23:26, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

CVUA teacher user box!

So I decided to make this (for teachers)!

{{User:FriyMan/CVUA}}

It makes a nice little userbox -

Policy for trainer activity?

Does CVUA have a policy regarding activity of trainers on their student's CVUA pages? Many CVUA pages have hardly been updated in months even though students are active and presumably awaiting evaluation of their work. They have to keep notifying their instructor about the CVUA which has led me to suppose that these trainers are hardly taking CVUA seriously, having voluntarily signed up to be one and not even taking responsibility for it. As such, I am thinking that a policy should be in force to ensure that the list of trainers should be active. Any suggestions? <<< SOME GADGET GEEK >>> (talk) 22:53, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

I am bringing this issue up as I am concerned that I and Redolta have CVUA pages set up by Music1201 whose contributions have been rather sporadic. All the other CVUA trainers have been much more active recently, which makes me repeatedly question our trainers' ability to take responsibility for his volunteer role in the Academy. <<< SOME GADGET GEEK >>> (talk) 20:21, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
As a trainer, I completely agree. I'll create a proposal. ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 21:34, 1 February 2017 (UTC)

Proposal

Trainers in the CVUA must have edited in the last 3 months to have their names listed at Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit/Academy/Instructors. If they have not edited in 3 months, a bot will automatically remove their names from the page.

  1. Support as proposer. ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 21:37, 1 February 2017 (UTC)
  2. Support, but I have a question. Must the edits be CVUA-related, or can they be any kind of edit? Redolta📱 Contribs 18:28, 2 February 2017 (UTC)
Comment: Permit me to make an amendment to this proposal: that trainers have edited in the last month, in addition to having made at least one edit to a CVUA page in the last three months, in order to remain listed as an active trainer. <<< SOME GADGET GEEK >>> (talk) 18:54, 2 February 2017 (UTC)

Pinging @Kudpung: to this discussion. <<< SOME GADGET GEEK >>> (talk) 20:06, 23 March 2017 (UTC)
I think this is a reasonable enough proposal but what gives me pause is that something so obvious even needs a discussion. Probably the best solution would be to ping the listed 'Active' trainers to this discussion. Note that this CVUA project is managed by anyone who feels they should take an initiative - the former 'management' group was forced to disband some years ago when it had become more of a MORPG or social network than its specific goal. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 23:07, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

Lack of interest

I have been trying to get an instructor for several days now and the four guys that I found are not responding to my messages on their talk pages. Please help me get a mentor and if these four guys don't respond soon, please remove them from the list. Thank you. Pablothepenguin (talk) 22:40, 11 May 2017 (UTC)

Should have levels

I think there should be levels for the CVU. Some people who try to go against vandals do need more training in what they do, but they probably don't have enough edits to qualify for the academy as it is. Softening entry requirements to train more people would be good. Thinker78 (talk) 04:50, 15 December 2017 (UTC)

Thinker78 I've noticed that here has been no reply. The truth is that nowadays sophisticated bots are catching and reverting most of the vandalism. However, if you have any ideas, don't hesitate to list then at the WP:Village pump where the will attract the most attention. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 19:33, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

Is the academy still active?

Hi, I'm eager to do my bit for Wikipedia by learning more about how to counter vandalism. There don't seem to be any available trainer slots at the moment - is this project still active, should I check back here regularly to see if slots are available? Thanks GirthSummit (blether) 19:45, 4 October 2018 (UTC)

Yes sure. Abelmoschus Esculentus (talk to memy contributions) 05:42, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

Crikey - it this thread still here? I assumed it would have been archived. Thanks for the ping Dey subrata - yes, I'd be happy to take you through the CVUA curriculum. I've got to go out now, but I'll set up your training page later today, and notify you when we're ready to begin. GirthSummit (blether) 11:38, 20 January 2019 (UTC)

Minimum count to take in anti-vandal hopefuls?

Now I’m asking this ONLY for future reference (and others may be helped by this) but is there any edit count requirements to be a teacher in this place? James-the-Charizard (talk) 19:56, 12 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi. Can we please remove link to Wikipedia:Online Ambassadors? I just visited this page; it is labeled as being totally inactive. please advise. thanks. --Sm8900 (talk) 15:46, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

Actually, here is another idea; perhaps we could replace that link, with a link to Wikipedia:Education program? that page seems to be currently active. please feel free to let me know. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 15:48, 4 March 2020 (UTC)

With Kudpung's retirement, User:Kudpung/Anti vandal centre is now a redlink. What are we missing and how should we fix it? Sdkb (talk) 20:28, 22 March 2020 (UTC)

Number of edits in mainspace requirement

I was wondering about this. I have 135 "mainspace" edits, which is 65 below the threshold to enter the academy. However, discussing on talk pages and user talk pages are also important. So I propose a change. Instead of putting "Mainspace," we should put "Mainspace, Talk, and User Talk." This change would help many editors, (including me,) to be able to get training from the academy. Thanks, Ghinga7 (talk) 04:23, 30 May 2020 (UTC).

I want to leave

Can you unroll me from here? Thanks. New3400 (talk) 20:53, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

how can I join?

How can I join these trainers. I have over 200 edits btw — Preceding unsigned comment added by TigerScientist (talkcontribs) 01:37, 5 December 2020 (UTC)
