these points have just been under discussion in Wikipedia:School and university projects

  1. in some/many universities students own their own work. It may not be permitted to force them to use wikipedia. That should be cleared up for each project in advance.
  2. wikimedia software is free. teachers should consider setting up a separate wiki in which they can experiment.

I don't think these eliminate the other conclusions, but they do strongly suggest that school and university projects can and should think carefully before going ahead. I think this means that, in the interests of the people running the projects it becomes even more important to read the guidelines.
