Mediation Stage 0

edit

Introduction

edit

Greetings, Parties. I'm AGK (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA), the Mediator now handling this case. My apologies for the length of time you've waited to get your Dispute Resolution up and running - unfortunately, your previous Mediator has taken a leave of absence from Committee duties.

In line with Wikipedia:Mediation...

Each mediator is granted the freedom to develop his or her own method, and to apply it as necessary for the specific case at hand. The method used by any given mediator may differ from the general guidelines set out here. This is not a formal policy, and mediators are not obligated to utilize methodologies set out herein.

...I, like all Mediators, have over time developed my own personal method for Formal Mediation, which I hope to be implementing into your case. My method, which I've "inventively" dubbed "The Three Stages of Mediation", is as follows:

  • Mediation Stage 0 – The introductory statement by the Mediator; the establishing of consensus over the Mediation Location (where Mediation will be held).
  • Mediation Stage 1 – confirmation of "issues to be Mediated"; initial statements by parties, outlining which of the issues they do and do not agree with, and why.
  • Mediation Stage 2 — the desired outcomes of each party are then converted into possible solutions - "Requests for Implementation". Editors then barter over these terms, by either posting adaptions or retiring that Request for Implementation in favour of a heavily revised version.
  • Mediation Stage 3 — by this stage, the Requests for Implementation will be coming on thick and fast, and some will hopefully begin to be agreed upon; this is where I come in - as the neutral third party, it's my duty to implement all the edits agreed upon; remember - if you change your mind on an edit, express so and (under normal circumstances) the implementation will be reverted.

As you may have guessed, we're currently on Mediation Stage 0. When progression to Stage 1 (and from 1 to 2, and so on) has occurred, I will archive the previous stage; this may happen in a "staggered" motion, or in one swoop, depending on how busy the page gets.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me; for convenience, a list of mediums through which you can contact me is available here. Your attention is drawn to the ettiquette box at the top of the page, which I fully expect all parties to abide by at all times - remember, Mediators are not Security Guards!

Now, I invite all parties to watch this page (using the link at the right hand side), and hence to participate in the Mediation below. Best of luck, and once again thank you!

Kind regards,

Mediation Location

^demon, the previous Mediator, had already established consensus over the Mediation location during his time here; however, I would like to give parties the oppurtunity to re-affirm their support for Mediating at this page, and likewise to object to holding Mediation here. Please sign with "Support" or "Oppose" below, with "Support" meaning you wish to hold Mediation at this page; no comments, please.

Clarification of Issues to be Mediated

edit
Note—the main issue is bolded; the secondary issues are not.

As per my posted "3 Stages of Mediation" plan, I'd now like to ask parties to agree to the "Issues to be Mediated":

  1. The issues that belong in the lead as well as the neutral wording of the section.
  2. Usage of some sources by one of the editors which some other editors believe that do not verify the text.
  3. some violations of WP:WTA
  4. in one word whole article is POV dispute.
  5. Inclusion of the Iranian government response to the "wipe off the map" speech in the lead.

I'd now like to ask parties to either Agree (to all issues), or state which issues they wish to be amended. Once again, no comments please: if you do object to one or more issues to be Mediated, please start a new Heading 4 section below this section, stating why. Two examples are provided:

  • Support (all issues). Anthøny 20:55, 31 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Object (to issue 1). Anthøny 20:55, 31 July 2007 (UTC) Note: I don't - this is just an example :)Reply

  • Can I ask for a compromise, in that we push ahead with the 4 issues already posted? If you have any additional issues you'd like to be Mediated, you can email them to me privately (see my contact page). However, I'm quite anxious to press on with Mediation Stage 1, and removing issues would perhaps require this case to be completely refiled/restarted. Do I have a compromise? ~ Anthøny 10:44, 2 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Motion to Commence Mediation

edit

Greetings Parties, and my apologies for the delay in beginning Mediation. Whereas I have the intention of commencing Mediation within the next few days, I would like to put forward this Motion to Commence Mediation for the consideration of Parties. In order to establish the consensus present, I ask all editors listed on this section of the case page to consider my statement in the next paragraph, post their opinion on starting Mediation.

Furthermore, I would like to clarify what I have interpreted as the main Issue to be Mediated:

  1. What are and what are not the issues that should be included in the lead of the article are.

If Parties are in agreement to this being the Main Issue to be Mediated, please state your opinion below. During your opinion posting, I ask that the Parties simply provide *'''Support'''. ~~~~, or *'''Oppose'''. ~~~~.

Kind regards,
