Images

edit

Can I ask the fair-use images are removed since they break WP policy. I may get round to removing myself otherwise (and they probably won't look too good) Ian13ID:540053 13:34, 2 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

They certainly don't look good. Are we sure that college crests are taboo here? Doesnt the {{coatofarms}} licence designation cover them? Please explain to us clueless lusers. Can a ipr lawyer please advise? Thruston 23:46, 11 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Not sure how to create template

edit

Added one for Magdalen, but not sure how to make it a template. Any tips? Miles underwood 17:02, 28 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Type "Template:user oxon magd" in search window and click "Go". Click on create article. Open the templates page in another window and start to edit it. Copy the content of the template to the new Template edit window and after previewing to check it is OK, save it. Then edit the templates article to transclude in the template. I've done it for you. Look at what I did. --Bduke 23:48, 28 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think we need one for "studied at Wadham...", on the same model as "studies at Wadham..." - can someone help please? Thank you! --ukexpat 20:06, 26 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Done - {{user wadham oxon alumnus}} - didn't fancy moving/renaming the existing template to {{user wadham oxon current}} to make room for it, though! Bencherlite 21:38, 26 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

added user oxon oriel current template!

edit

Just as the title says, really - a template for current Oriel students Feel free to subst it and rework it (you may not want the image, so you could put back the usual 2 letter code "OC", for instance). Have fun. -- (James McNally)  (talkpage)  11:11, 15 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Userboxes/Education/United Kingdom/University of Oxford

edit

I have several concerns with the edits to Oxford College useboxes that have been made recently:-

  1. All except Oriel are fair use images which can not be used on user pages. I am not certain whether the justification for the Oriel crest being fair use is correct.
  2. The use of terms such as "Balliolian" are not really standard, and I do not think there is consensus to replace terms such as "studied at Balliol College", "belongs to Balliol College" or "graduated from Balliol College" with that term.
  3. Two of the earlier templates have been deleted, when there is no consensus to change them.

I am tempted to revert right back and restore the former Oriel and Pembroke userboes, but I'll leave them for comment here, particularly from User:Pizza1512 who made all but one of the recent changes. --Bduke 22:30, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Since someone else has reverted all those changes, I have restored the old templates for Oriel and Pembroke. However, I think all of these should be userfied. --Bduke 23:16, 19 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Standard Layout and Pattern across colleges

edit

with the update of all the college pages with standard coats of arms I propose a similar unification occur for these. I quite like the colours above and below the box as per St Catz, and with a crest to the left and either a "has studied at" or "is studying at" followed by the college's full English name. Thoughts on this are welcome. Examples can be found here ChevronTango (talk) 15:49, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

I suggest that you tread carefully here, as there has been much discussion on these some years back. The storm will hit you only when you make changes, as most people who have these on their user page will not see this discussion. There are two issues. The first is the use of the colours above and below. You like it. I hate it and also suggest that it is totally unacceptable, as there is a conventional height for userboxes, that all these other than St Catz conform to. This is useful as people like to stack userboxes together. See how I use them on my user page, particularly under the "Academic record" header. The second is the use of "has studied at" or "is studying at". Here I agree with you, but many will not. I think it is not helpful to use terms like "this user is an Orielensis", but the good folks from Oriel College will come down on you like a ton of bricks. "This user is an Aularian" is even more obscure, but again the folks from Teddy Hall will object to changing it. I suggest that you work on a more modest change. Leave the size alone. Leave the wording alone. Just try to standardise on using the crest rather than the letter abbreviation. Some people will even disagree with that. --Bduke (Discussion) 22:15, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thats fair, I've not really got enough experience in the matter to know all the ins and outs. It just seemed silly they werem't standardised. ChevronTango (talk) 23:00, 22 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
