Liberation War of Bangladesh
I believe the Liberation War deserves more space that a small section on the Bangladesh page. There is so much to discuss on that. Plus, the Bangladesh page, as written and presented now, really needs some restructuring work. I think the main clash happens because people from different countries in South Asia tend to put up their own POV-biased notions and leave out rest. Examples:
- In the initial version, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's leadership and the other leaders were totally ignored.
- Somebody called it Indo-Pak War of 1971 as opposed to the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
- India's role in the war and reasons for India to support is one of those constant edit-re-edit wars.
The way out?
- Strictly state facts as a timeline
- Zero foreign perspectives (if you wish to discuss Indo-Pak War of 1971, put it on a separate page and put a link here)
- Avoid speculative analysis out of observations (for example, say India helped instead of saying India helped because...)
- Mention political scenario to avoid the notion that parties other than Awami League had no role (fundamentally because the other parties did not exist back then; they were formed long after the independence)
- Avoid current political perspectives (for example, whether Ziaur Rahman had a bigger or smaller role than Sheikh Mujibur Rahman; strictly mention historical facts: meeting of March 7, Mujib's arrest on the 25th night, declaration from a small radio station in Chittagon by Zia, news broadcast of BBC informing people on the West coast of the declaration, etc, etc.)
Banglapedia?
Can we get articles from http://banglapedia.search.com.bd/? Their main page says it's copyrighted by Asiatic Society of Bangladesh.... I am wondering if we can use information/article/content from that according to the principle of "Fair Use".
--Ragib 22:36, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I have used material from Banglapedia but not in the form that is there. I read through it and then wrote them in my own words again. Plus, if you look into articles about Bangladesh written presumably by Indians, you'd see immense use of infomation from CIA factbook, the best possible source of (biased) information. Most of these are direct copy-pastes. I would be surprised if CIA factbook was not copyrighted.
- I just wrote to them and asked if they would consider changing their license, and ideas for collaborating with Wikipedia - it seems they have a lot of information of a number of topics. My knowledge of Bangladeshi history is not good enough to really evaluate how good it is though. But it seems it is all written by Bangladeshi intellectuals.

- Being a Bangladeshi myself, I can assure you that Banglapedia is highly regarded in Bangladesh. It is called the national encyclopedia of Bangladesh ... and was funded by the Govt. Unfortunately, I doubt if you'd get a reply from them, I tried contacting them earlier, and got no response!! --Ragib 02:25, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
- I can tell you Banglapedia is the most reputable online reference for articles relating to Bangladesh, Bengal, and to some extent even West Bengal.--Antorjal 04:08, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Strategy to avoid POV
Any matter involving Bangladesh in pre-1971 era clearly involves Pakistan and the pre-1947 period includes current day India and Pakistan. Fundamentally there is a key issue of finding information with zero POV. Several sources includes Banglapedia provide fairly factual recollections, which prevent political POV's. Read about NPOV. Due to continued tension between India and Pakistan and due to the role played by various extreme forms of nationalism, any attempt to even slightly include inferences would lead to a constant edit-re-edit warfare, which is to be avoided at all costs.
Hence the following strategies are advised to all contributors to articles and references related to Bangladesh, East Pakistan, West Bengal, Bengali and Bengal:
- Political statements that would take side of either India or Pakistan should be given up in favour of Bangladeshi perspective when in doubt (only refers to articles on Bangladesh)
- When multiple versions of a fact seems to exist, all should be mentioned and described
- If there is continued doubt, information provided by the Government of People's Republic of Bangladesh should be considered final and a note should be made to assert this whenever such overriding assumptions are made
- An attempt should be made to keep distinct the notions of Bangladesh, Bengal and West Bengal - most importantly Bengal should not be used as a synonym for either Bangladesh or West Bengal
- Bengal should not be described as a part of India - instead the more appropriate term West Bengal will be used
- With reference to disputed Bangladeshi political opinions, sources should be cited along with the name of the party that claims that notion
- Before implementing any change in the content based on elimination of POV will should be noted in the Discussion area and left for a week for refutation before the actual edit is carried out
Some of the above strategies are non-conflicting alternative strategies. When in doubt, one is advised to pick the one that suits the situation best.
Overlapping Articles
Please add the groups of overlapping articles in this section.
Language Movement
Ragib, if you have some free time, could you go through the overlapping articles on Language Movement and merge the articles? If nobody objects, let's work on one and put redirects on the other two. I recently gathered some information to make a non-political section on Liberation War. So, depending on what you want to do, I can take the other. (I'd really like to make those two look decent before school fully kicks in!)
Details:
These are the articles:
If you ask me, I'd say let's keep Language Movement because it has no symbols and is more likely to be looked up and put redirects on the others.

Bangladesh History
There is a section on East Pakistan. The info there overlaps considerably with Bangladesh Liberation War, and the one on Indo-Pak war of 1971. --Ragib 06:51, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I haven't check info on East Pakistan. There's a general trend in all Bangladesh related articles to over-emphasise on the Bangladesh Liberation War. It's possibly because when articles were initially created the Liberation War article didn't exist! I continuously try and make sure that information on Indo-Pakistan War of 1971 is consistent with different involved parties especially Bangladesh, India and Pakistan armies, but some people, due to their national associations and beliefs, love to put information that should be elsewhere in this article. The whole US involvement was with Bangladesh Liberation War and not Indo-Pak War of 1971 although obviously the two battles were closely related: the first led to the latter! -- Urnonav 06:33, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)
This article needs major cleanup. After the first sentence, the rest of the article is Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's Biography, cut and pasted from Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. No detail/mention of Mukti Bahini at all. --Ragib 04:36, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- My proposition is that this article should strictly not include political information; Awami League or any other party had almost nothing to do with the formation of MB. To cut a long story short Mukti Bahini was a special guerilla group. We also need to see what the organisation of Bangladesh Army was inside Mukti Bahini or vice versa before we go about editing it. Banglapedia (which suffers from chronic server problems) has an excellent section on the military organisation of the War. -- Urnonav 06:36, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- I'll look into Banglapedia. BTW, you can find the contents of Banglapedia in Google Cache, when the original server is down. --Ragib 07:00, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

What is the naming convention regarding titles? Is Bangladeshi musicians preferred to Musicians of Bangladesh or Musician of Bangladesh? We need to work on the Category: Bangladesh.

- Welcome, you can start by looking into the articles (not a complete list) listed in the project page, picking one up and expanding it, looking thru the category Bangladesh-stub (many articles are in stub state now) and expanding them. Great to have you here. Don't forget to add your name to the project participants section in the project page. Thanks, and shwagotom :) --Ragib 16:52, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

Deletion list
Hi folks,
I just wanted to let you know about a list of deletion debates on Bangladesh-related articles. You can find it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Bangladesh. Since there aren't very many Bangladesh-related VfDs, you might find this list a useful way to check if there are any items worth your attention.
If you find the list useful, please help to maintain it by adding new items or archiving old ones. Thanks!
Also, new members are welcome and much needed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting. Hope to see you there!

Cuisine of Bangladesh
hi folks! have just created a stub - Cuisine of Bangladesh .. this aspect of our national brand is quite a subtle one as one could argue that something of 'Bangladesh' is in most major cities worldwide, namely the cuisine in restaurants masquerading as 'Indian'. heck - it might even be the national cusine of 'Britain'!
- o)
Please tuck in.! Aloodum 15:02, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
- I personally believe that Bangladeshi cuisine would be a very incomplete article. Bulk of what is seen, in Dhaka at least, are not of Bangladeshi origin. That aside, I think it would be better to have an article on Bengali cuisine. The reason for my saying this is, cuisine is something usually associated with ethnic groups rather than with countries. A notion like Indian cuisine makes little sense given how different South Indian cooking is from, say, Kashmiri cooking. -- urnonav 23:17, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Hi guys, I just made this stub.. I just thought it would be a good story to cover. Does anyone remember the sordid details? I can't even recall Monir's mistress's name! Hope you guys can flesh out dates and names, etc.
Next stop: Ershad Shikder ;-)
--Peripatetic 13:22, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
- I somewhat remember some details, first of which is the victims name: Sharmin (nick name Rima). She was the daughter of a journalist martyred in 1971. The name of the mistress was Khuku. She was found not guilty. I also renamed the article. --Ragib 22:06, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
Hi,
I was just browsing online and I came across this brief description about the murder of my aunt, my moms younger sister. Anyway...if you guys want any help or details on this...let me know. Oh, and thanks for even mentioning it. :)

Hi people,
Tagore is up for peer review at the above address. It doesn't strike me as being very well-done, and also it seems that it's been worked on mostly by a non-Bengali. I've given my comments to the guy, but maybe some of you guys could pitch in as well? --Peripatetic 14:43, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

Project directory
Hello. The WikiProject Council has recently updated the Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Directory. This new directory includes a variety of categories and subcategories which will, with luck, potentially draw new members to the projects who are interested in those specific subjects. Please review the directory and make any changes to the entries for your project that you see fit. There is also a directory of portals, at User:B2T2/Portal, listing all the existing portals. Feel free to add any of them to the portals or comments section of your entries in the directory. The three columns regarding assessment, peer review, and collaboration are included in the directory for both the use of the projects themselves and for that of others. Having such departments will allow a project to more quickly and easily identify its most important articles and its articles in greatest need of improvement. If you have not already done so, please consider whether your project would benefit from having departments which deal in these matters. It is my hope that all the changes to the directory can be finished by the first of next month. Please feel free to make any changes you see fit to the entries for your project before then. If you should have any questions regarding this matter, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you. B2T2 15:08, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
Proposal(s)
I would like to join the project very much. And, I have few proposals to make to the project people:
- Create a "bangladesh-history" stub, and a "bangladesh-history" category
- Create a "bangladesh-dynasties" project/portal/template
- Merge most "cities" into respective districts (for reasons stated on Talk:List of cities in Bangladesh), and have a guideline for district entry names, like - Pirojpur District (Bangladesh) - where the "(...)" part is to be used only when there is another entry with the same name
- Start a Dhaka Neighborhoods project, and go thana by thana
- Create an infobox template for Dhaka thanas (a starting point could be the infobox on Shahbag)
- A more stringent sorting and cleanup of all the articles
And, can the project have "vandal-guard" system? Yours - Aditya Kabir 05:23, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
- I support most of your comments, except the one on cities. There is no reason to merge two separate entities into a single one. A District is a Govt designated subdivision, with separate administration and structure. A city is an incorporated area under a municipal corporation, municipality or municipal board. The two entities are different, and it is a norm in Wikipedia to treat them as such. For example, census usually lists metropolitan population and district-wise population figures separately. So, I don't see ANY reason to merge such articles. Thanks. --Ragib 22:38, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
I think we need to give the city-proposal more thought, especially about their notability. Is everything put in a government gadget or demarcated by a boundary and counted for a population notable enough to have an entry? I have my doubts. This is the reason I kept Bandarban Town a part of Bandarban District. Please, advise. - Aditya Kabir 06:50, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- See Category:Cities and towns in India and its subcategories. There are more than 5000 places there. As for Bhola, see thousands of entries for cities such as some listed in Category:Cities_in_California. For example, see Dixon,_California. The US has double the population of Bangladesh. This city has a population of 16,103 (note that, it is still called a city, not a town or village). The same precedent can be shown for cities and towns in almost all other countries. So, there is no real need to nuke the city articles and merge them elsewhere. Thanks. --Ragib 07:00, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
Hahaha! Nuking wasn't the idea. But, seriously there's more. I haven't been able to find the criterion for designating cities in India. But, with California the designation comes by incorporation, like I said, by a charter or law. And, on top of that many of those cities don't conform to a naming convention.
Well, since you are supposed to know the norms, conventions and regulations for WP better, I would reduce the proposal to encompass just the List of cities in Bangladesh and Template:BDeshCities. Can we classify the urban areas listed them into metropolitan and municipal areas? That would be more encyclopedic (I mean - NOT ARBITARY). Since, I can't propose to work on realignment of "all city lists on WP" (lack of time, energy, experience and so on) though most of them need it, at least this much I think is achievable.Thanks. - Aditya Kabir 04:47, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- P.S. What about my proposal to join the Project on Bangladesh? How do I do that? And, how can I ask for help to create that infobox of "Dhaka Thana"? - Aditya Kabir 04:47, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

Review
Hi, I'm new to WikiProject Bangladesh. I'm going to try and go through a review of the articles in the portal, fixing up spelling, grammar and POV. Unfortunately I only have a cursory knowledge of Bangladesh, so won't be adding much information. I'll post some information here as the talk pages of some of the articles are visited all that often. I started with the cities:
- Sylhet – good article, Changed Sylhoti-> Sylheti, both acceptable but need to use one for consistency. Economy section: some of it is not relevant. This section and the article in general need more references.
- Sirajganj – short introduction, followed by directly copied entry from “Encyclopædia Britannica Eleventh Edition.” Doesn’t fit well in context.
- Barisal City – little text, but has comprehensive statistics, although the source is not cited.
- Chittagong – problems well documented on talk page. I did some substantial rewrites to reduce POV and peacock terms. More references needed.
- Khulna - was quite poorly worded, tried to fix, changed substantially and cut lots of irrelevant material. Needs expanding and references.
- Rajshahi – good page, fixed and reworded half the article.
Thanks, and hope to hear from you!
PS. how can I add cities to the Cities template? Recurring dreams 07:50, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

I just created an article called Upazilas of Bangladesh, please read and suggest me at: Talk:Upazilas of Bangladesh or at my talk page. Also I created a templet {{Template:Infobox of upazilas}}

- I have taken the liberty to colorize the blank locator map. I believe this looks better.-Arman Aziz 05:21, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 20:32, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
New article
Sadeque Hossain Khoka - Tragic Baboon (banana receptacle) 14:57, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Please participate in this page. It seems some people want to accuse Bangladesh of 'ethnic cleansing' based on articles on poor-quality sources. MinaretDk 00:08, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, poor quality sources like TIME magazine, Newstoday and articles by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Sydney Schanberg. What poor sources indeed! (Vyangya)
- The section in question makes no accusations against Bangladeshi people btw. The 1971 Bangladesh atrocities were conducted by Pakistan Army, and many Bengali Muslims were also genocid'ed together with Bengali Hindus. The only Bangladeshis who were involved were the B'deshi chapter of Jamaat-e-Islami, and other such crazy people. Rumpelstiltskin223 01:09, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Are you a regular here, or is this wikistalking? I don't mind the content based on Time Magazine or Amnesty or anything else. Please don't make false accusations here. I do challenge sources like Rediff, which is not published and doesn't host qualified journalists. POV is being pushed in the article to promote the idea that Hindus are chronically subject to persecution. The accusatory content is disproportionately large considering the status and contributions of Hindus to Bangladesh. Much of the content of the website dwells on 'persecution' of Hindus by Bangladeshis, as well as allegations of "Islamization" of Bangladesh under Zia. Although I strongly favor absolute secularism, to accuse Zia's administration of "Islamization" or to imply that persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh is either routine or endemic, is a gross exaggeration. MinaretDk 02:08, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- The article implies no such thing. And also see Zia-ul-Haq's Islamization, there is a full fledged article on it started by, guess who, Pakistanis and Bangladeshi editors. The article lists the fats as reported by Amnesty International on Bangladesh. Endemic discrimination against minorities in backwards parts of B'desh are as much a reality, if not more so, then endemic discrimination against minorities in backward parts of India (the difference is that in India, national govt does not do it and we have a Muslim president). Rumpelstiltskin223 02:15, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- I'm referring to Zia Ur Rahman, not Zia Ul Huq. In Bangladesh there was never anything as bad as the Babri Mosque incident, or the Gujarat massacre, both of which were promoted by strong Indian political parties. We don't have equivalents to Baal Thackeray (who says Muslims should not be permitted to pray in public in India) in Bangladesh. Even if there are religious political parties, they do not publicly call to harm Hindus the way people publicly call on Indians to kill Muslims. MinaretDk 02:55, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- Not according to Amnesty International, who demonstrate state sponsored genocide of Hindus in many parts of Rurel B'Desh, and Hindu women being forcibly converted to Islam, and Hindu men dragged into madrassas and beheaded with rusty blades. Anyhow, I have no desire to discuss this here since wikipedia is not a soapbox or a discussion forum. If you remove references that are supported by wikipedia policies on reliable sources, then it is a disruption and will be handles accordingly. Rumpelstiltskin223 03:04, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

- And bbc is usually proislamic--D-Boy 04:57, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
- BBC is "pro-Islamic"? Okaaay...
- Maybe there should be a separate "Persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh" article, which has a link in the "Hinduism in Bangladesh" article. WP:NPOV has a paragraph on 'undue weight', and for sure the persecution content in HiB is overwhelming everything else. Then you guys can have a big party articulating every argument to make the world sorry for Bangladesh's Hindus. MinaretDk 05:47, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

- No, this is enough. See History of the Jews in Italy. There is ample examples of describing ethnic-religious minorities with emphasis on persecutions against them. The article (like all wikipedia articles at all times) is work in progress. Should the article ever cross Wikipedia:Article size limitations we can move off to another article with "anti-Hinduism in Bangladesh" or something. Rumpelstiltskin223 07:02, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

I would direct you to WP:NPOV, WP:RS, and WP:POINT.You seem to be playing games here, not explaining your edits but rather reverting endlessly and supporting it with your personal arguments.
That's funny. History of the Jews in Italy is one of the best articles on wikipedia. Instead of posting interwikis in some sort of mania, why don't you contribute to some articles productively instead of whitewashing them of violence? Also, all the sources cited therein satisfy WP:RS per wikipedia policies. Only YOU seem to think otherwise, claiming that BBC, AI and others are "partisan rags". - That's a silly request. What is the function of this group if not to bring attention to articles? Bakasuprman and Rumpelstiltskin are pushing anti-Bangladeshi POV to make Hindus look like victims of some atrocity. Bangladeshi Wikipedians are needed to look into the problem. During my recent visit to Bangladesh, I've taken a lot of photos of Old Dhaka. I've uploaded them to Wikimedia commons (not all, but still uploading one or two every day). Lost? Can I help to find?
Where is the WikiProject History of Bangladesh? I see it mentioned on the talk page of Dhaka Nawab Family. But, alas, it's a red link. Not too sure
Guys, I think I am not too sure about Wikipedia:WikiProject Bangladesh/Assessment. I was checking the B Class articles and found what looked like inconsistencies to me. I am sorry to say this, since I know for fact that a lot of hard work and finest of intentions went into the assessment process. But, can someone reassure me about the assessment? If there's a need, may be, I can lend a hand too (I hope that didn't sound arrogant or something, I really mean to help). Cheers. Aditya Kabir 17:19, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- It's ok to re-assess articles. Feel free to change assessment or the classification. In fact, we need more experienced eyes to help with this, so please go ahead. --Ragib 17:46, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- I also think the assessment work needs more effort. I personally assessed many articles as B-class but perhaps was not always thoroughly systematic or rigorous in the assessment process. So, please go ahead with the reassessment as you feel appropriate, but appreciate if you drop a few lines on why you are changing the assessment - which will help other contributors to improve the article.-Arman Aziz 07:21, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Child Labour in Bangladesh - An open plea
Hi Guys
An open plea: To start an article on Child Labour in Bangladesh
We all know how bad the situation is. Those of us born there know that the problem is very wide-spread. Especially in regards to Child domestic work, which is a very common practice in almost all middle and upper class homes in Bangladesh
I'm in complete shock to find no specialised article on this subject. Then again, the attitude in Bangladesh is to find the notion of Child Labour quite normal, especially when it comes to children working in households (not having a go guys, even my own family in Bangladesh finds this issue "not an issue").
Now I'm by no means a specialist in this subject. Nor am I well linked within Wikipedia. I'm just a part timer. I (currently) DO NOT have enough statistical knowledge to start a fair article on this subject.
So could a specialist in Child Labour subject please start an article about Child Labour in Bangladesh. The situation (even historically) is so grave that an article in wikipedia is very necessary and would grately improve awareness on this subject worldwide (in my opinion).
Thanks you very much in advance. -- Ash sul 21:47, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Public Domain Photos of Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina
We urgently need to source public domain photographs for these two former heads of Government of Bangladesh. These are top important articles and other major English encyclopedias (Encarta etc.) feature images on these subjects. Furthermore these are internationally "hot topics" now-a-days. Can anyone please help or suggest a source?-Arman Aziz 08:20, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- BD Govt sources are not quite of use here (I've tried, but no response).I suggest looking into the US Embassy or state dept, which should have photos that are in PD as work of a US Federal agency. --Ragib 08:51, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestion. I've found some related low-resolution images in a US Govt. site. I've uploaded one image featuring Khaleda Zia and added to the article. Should I also replace the current imgae of Sheikh Hasina with a low-res image from US Gov. site? The copyright status of the current image seems uncertain.-Arman Aziz 10:28, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Infobox for Districts
Currently we are not using any standard infobox for the Districts of Bangladesh. We need to urgently decide on a common infobox and start applying that on all district articles. I saw 3 different infoboxes in use:
Dhaka District uses an infobox which is dependent on individual maps. Applying this infobox on 64 pages will be difficult because someone has to create 64 different maps. The map used on Dhaka District page is probably Copy-vio.
Tangail District uses infobox for cities. This seems ok for Tangail city (the metropolitan area) but not for Tangail District. We need to segregate these two.
Finally, I have modified Ushinga's wonderful infobox for upazilas to use it for districts. I have applied the same on Chittagong District. I am strongly in favor of using this infobox because it doesn't require creation of new maps. However, the limitation of this template is: the district boundary is not visible on the locator map.
I'd request veteran members of this project to comment on the situation so that we can decide on a single infobox. - Arman Aziz 09:21, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Importance scale and private universities
All the private university of Bangladesh that has an article on WP has received a "Mid" rating on the importance scale. While it is nice to have a blanket rating for a large group of similar articles, we must not lose sight of the fact that many of these universities hardly pass the notability criterion stated as a WP guideline. Most are plagued with shabby operation, repeatedly challenged by the UGC, and many are perpetually tattering on the brink of ceasing operations. Can we downgrade the blanket importance rating to "Low"? There are a lot more things needing desperate attention among Bangladesh articles. Aditya Kabir 08:16, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

- Tasks for now
- Putting the category tag and the navigation template to all the relevant pages
Cleaning up the templates and and other pages related to Bangladesh history project, which has become a workgroup now (it would also need a bit of tweaking with project banner and re-categorization to bring the articles under that project to the workgroup)Cleaning up the main page, which entails cleaning up all traces of the history wikiproject from the main page (some wrong links may still be there), putting in all the Bangladesh related navigation templates along with the districts template- Reorganizing and tightening the open task page
Creating a geography workgroup, and inviting people to join in- Enhancing the collaboration page
- Enhancing the outreach page, which may also include the creation of a newsletter (ideally bot delivered), an invite template and a welcome template
There surely are more tasks involved. But, I guess, I'm too tired to to remember those. Aditya Kabir 21:09, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks for the compliments. On the proposal of creating a workgroup - I think the effort could be better used in some other areas. The Portal talk page can be used for any discussion and it can be assumed that WP Bangladesh is managing Portal:Bangladesh. A workgroup at this point in time will mean the same few active members. We'll just have one additional workgroup page to maintain.-Arman Aziz 10:21, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
Geographical references
It is stated at Wikipedia:Geographic references#Bangladesh that "On this wiki, we will use the Third Population Census of Bangladesh, which was conducted by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics on 12, 13, 14 and 15 March, 1991 because the latest census data is not realesed online yet." But, Population census 2001: national report (provisional) has been made available at the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics website. Do we make use of it now? This newer data will require massive changes in all upazila and district articles. Aditya(talk • contribs) 22:26, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Photo pool
We desperately need more photos, specifically:
- People (both PD pix and living people images)
- Places (ZIA, Kamalapur Station, Dhaka Stadium, Motijheel, Chittagong Port are some examples)
- Flora and Fauna (shapla, trees etc)
- Monuments (e.g. Buddhijibi smriti soudho?)
Possible sources are Flickr (search with "Bangladesh" and with Creative common option search) ... we may also ask people at Somewhereinblog or other forums to contribute photos. --Ragib 02:57, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- Ragib bhai, thank you for raising this very important issue. I think we need to draw a strategy to address this. Ragib bhai, from your experience, could you please validate the following classification (and the fair-use applicability) of required images:
- Living people: Fair use image can only be used if the image is of a historically important event and a free alternative is not available.
- Dead people: A free image should be looked for first. If not available, the best available image on the net should be used as fair-use image!
- Historical events: same as above.
- Existing Landmarks (buildings/structures): Fair use image usually not allowed. Wikipedians should try to create these images themselves as these are usually easy to photograph.
- Locality:same as above.
- Maps: Should be created / recreated by wikipedians. Historical maps may be available in public domain.
- Flora and Funa: If endengered species and free image is not available, fair-use image can be used. Else wikipedians should try to create.
- Logo/Poster/Book-cover/Screenshot: Fairuse allowed only on related article.
- Everyday objects: Includes food items, dress, tools, instruments etc. Wikipedians should try to create themselves.
- Am I missing anything?
- Once we agree on the categories, we should try to apply this classification on Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Bangladesh. This should allow us to address the need of images more systematically. Arman (Talk) 06:59, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
- Wonderful idea. This classification would perfectly do as a starting point. Finer details will organically evolve as work progresses. Categorizing the request of photo category is an even more awesome idea. Aditya(talk • contribs) 05:55, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Oldham - bangla translation?
Hello "amar bondu" WikiProject Bangladesh!
I'm not sure if this is the right place to raise this, so do forgive me if I'm in the wrong spot. I'm just raising awareness about Oldham - a large town in England that has one of, if not the highest number of Sylhettis in Europe. My point?... I'm wondering if someone wanted to do a translation for the Bangla version of Wikipedia, given this significant connection with Bangladesh. Oldham is now officially a featured article too! Hope someone is interested! -- Jza84 · (talk) 03:28, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
