Listen Up!

A lot of these comments haven't been responded to by WikiProject British Empire Members. This is because the Wikiproject is essentially 'dead.' It has also been inactive for a long time. It is time for this to change. I am interested in reviving this WikiProject. To do this I need dedicated users who are prepared to put in the edits to revive the project. The topics of the greatest empire in history simply cannot be neglected. So I pledge for your help. Join the Wikiproject by adding your name to the list of participants. From there you can help by creating new articles within the scope of the British Empire, and adding articles that need to be created on the To-Do page. Vought109 (talk) 11:01, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

All I ask is that users be registered, and are familiar with Wikipedia's various policies and guidelines.

Remember, the main aims of the Wikiproject are:

  • To provide guidelines and recommendations for articles that describe all aspects of the British Empire.
  • To improve Wikipedia's coverage of the British Empire by creating, expanding, and maintaining such articles.
  • To serve as the central point of discussion for issues related to the British Empire on Wikipedia.
  • To create a consistent look and style for each page within our scope.
  • To fight vandalism on articles within our scope by patrolling recent changes.

All regular users and admins are most welcome to join. Vought109 (talk) 11:01, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

All Red Route

Or All-Red Route, I'm not sure if it's hyphenated or not. This was atag used in reference to an all-British route around the world: via Gibraltar-Suez-Aden-India-Malacca-HK-Vancouver-Montreal-London or alternately via the Cape of Good Hope. it features in CP Steamships/CP Railway tourism promotions, and Ithink in Cook's and in P&O's...something of an imperial slogan. I don't have the resources to wriet/cite it properly, just observing that it's "out there" as an Empire-related topic in need of an article. Basic cites I can piont to for Vancouver being a key connection are in alan Morley's Vancouver: MFrom Milltown to Metropolis and J.S. Matthews' Early Vancouver; als oin Peter MacDonald's Historical Atlas of Vancouver (Historical Geography of Vancouver?).Skookum1 (talk) 20:07, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

I have a BBC/Time-Life Magazine thing (The British Empire) here with an issue devoted entirely to The "All-Red Routes"; with the hyphen. Covers Steamships, Telegraph Cables, and Flying Boats. If I get some time I'll try and get an article up soonish. Commander Zulu (talk) 08:12, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Merge inactive project?

70.29.212.131 (talk) 06:19, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

I don't believe that would be practical. The Commonwealth has member states that weren't part of the Empire and vice-versa. In addition they functioned in entirely different ways.--Ykraps (talk) 06:57, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Current consensus on the talk page of the other project is currently against it. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 20:49, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Minor Edit

'The British Empire was the largest empire in history and, for over a century, was the foremost global power. ' Global power links to great power but should instead link to hyperpower.Twobells (talk)

File:Anachronous map of the British Empire.png

It says on the map of File:Anachronous map of the British Empire.png that the Thirteen Colonies of America is a dependecy of Britain. This is wrong because Britain lost their North American territories befngore Australia and NZ was colonised. This needs to be changed immediately. Vought109 (talk) 07:29, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

It's anachronous. -- MichiganCharms (talk) 03:11, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
