Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Final Fantasy/character names

CHARACTER NAME LIST moved to: /character names. This is now the discussion page for the list.

The names on the left should be what we refer to in the pages and the names on the right are the foreign ones except in some cases like Aeris/Aerith where she is translated to Aeris in Final Fantasy VII North America and Aerith in Kingdom Hearts North America.

  • Good work on this! I agree, in all cases, the name from the latest localization should be used as the title of the article and as the name used throughout the article. However, it would probably be helpful to indicate the alternative names somewhere in the article (at least the ones in the English versions). For characters that have multiple names in the same game (like Faris aka Salsa and Red XIII aka Nanaki), the name used throughout most the game should be the one that is used (Faris and Red XIII), but the other names should probably be mentioned in the article as well. --Cswrye July 6, 2005 19:54 (UTC)
    • Well Red XIII/Nanaki goes without saying because that's part of the storyline, but I agree with what you mean. If anything it's so people aren't confused to why that name was chosen, and it's a bit of trivia. We've done it with Aeris, there's no harm in doing it with others. Fantastic work DarkEvil. I can say this, when you put work into these things you sure do get the job done well :D — Cuahl 6 July 2005 20:06 (UTC)
      • I think we should not forget to put some redirects people are gonna use when searching for a specific character, it's not because we choose to use Firion that other people will type the same thing. People who have played the Neo-Demiforce translation would type Friony, for example.
        • Of course - that makes sense. We could do it for each varient. — Cuahl 7 July 2005 03:24 (UTC)
  • So... why is Sabin/Mash listed as Matthew when the Japanese does not have a long vowel at the the end (which Matthew would have) and the ending sequence calls him Mash Rene Figaro? Other than that, even I can't find much to nitpick. Though I am curious as to where some of the names came from, like Leo Cristophe (his full name is nowhere in the game itself as far as I know), and spellings for names like Cefca and Humbaba that only appear phonetically in Japanese to my knowledge. — kWhazit 28 Sep 2006 23:25 (UTC)
