Re-emergence

I don't want this project to die, so I think we need to come up with some suggestions as to how we can revitalise this project. A drive might be nice, using articles from, the cleanup listing here, to try and attract new members. Any other suggestions would be most welcome. Also, do you think it would be appropriate if Hornoir (talk · contribs) was named honourary coordinator emeritus, even though he's not active anymore, but he did try hard to relaunch the project way back in 2009, which is an impressive feat really. Anyway, let's try and keep this project going.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 19:30, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

Another useful thing would be to expand the Horror portal as well as the Horror section on the Speculative fiction portal. They are both very good ways to promote the genre.Even if people weren't comfortable making the changes themselves (especially on P:SF, as the setup there is more complicated than on many other portals), offering suggestions for what could be improved is always helpful and appreciated. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 19:54, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
That is a good idea. We've got a lot of work cut out for us, but I think we can make it happen.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 20:09, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
You know, I had another idea in order to concentrate things a little more and make it easier to take care of in the future: what about merging the Horror portal into the Horror section of the Speculative fiction portal? It could be made to appear like the main page there (as far as amount of content). All of the content could be included easily. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 04:23, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
Maybe this project should have collaborate on an article to make it a Featured Article. If enough members work on it together and get it to FAC, maybe some more editors might join the project because of the collab. GamerPro64 (talk) 05:07, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
That could be useful, too. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WikiProject Japan! 05:30, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
I've been working on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre for about 2 years now, it's recently failed its fourth FAC, but this year I'm hoping for it to make FA status. So maybe that could be the project? --TÆRkast (Communicate) 14:16, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
That sounds like a good article to start. Maybe a collaboration page should be made first. GamerPro64 (talk) 21:28, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
Well, the current collaboration page could probably do with a revamp.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 21:50, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
I'm all for boosting the community. I think focusing on one article to tackle for as a featured article might be a bit much, as basically not everyone has seen The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I think if we just boost more community interaction and support, it would get more people interested in the project. My suggestions would include a newsletter and finding editors who tackle horror related projects or article to invite them to to the project and have people stay with newsletters, better peer review support and such. Do we have a Horror-invite template? Andrzejbanas (talk) 21:24, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
With regards to Chain Saw, it's OK, I'll continue to work on the article until it reaches FA. I know it isn't the easiest article to work on, but it's one 2+ years in the making. Just if anybody's interested. As far as I'm aware, there isn't a horror invite template, but we could create one, then post it to related projects, e.g. WP:FILM, WP:VG etc. --TÆRkast (Communicate) 21:41, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Did someone say newsletter? If we are making one, can I be editor in chief? I work on WP:VG's newsletter from time to time. GamerPro64 (talk) 02:39, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Sure, I think a newsletter is a great idea, and you're welcome to be editor in chief. We need to think of content to put in it now. Once we manage to get a fair few participants, probably a few months down the line, we may then start to think about elections for the Coordinator posititons.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 11:46, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
Also, does anybody think another interview in The Signpost would be productive to the project in recruiting new members? --TÆRkast (Communicate) 12:18, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
For the newsletter, here is the Outreach department of the project, and a possible revival of Collaboration as well. These are things we should be aiming to do.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 13:43, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
Hey! We go mentioned at WikiProject Film's Newsletter. GamerPro64 (talk) 21:34, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
Awesome! I missed that part. Good catch.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 21:50, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Also, as a sidenote, I'm going to be having a bit of down time soon until February to focus on real-life stuff, i.e. exams, so somebody else may want to take charge in the interim. Very loosely related to this, if we do manage to get coordinator elections going again, I doubt I'll be running for Coordinator, but we'll see. Let's get this project back on its feet.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 22:11, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

I've created a to-do list which can be seen in the main project page. Feel free to edit it.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 22:44, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
I have placed the first nomination for collaboration here. GamerPro64 (talk) 01:28, 16 February 2011 (UTC)

Newsletter

O.k, before we bring the newsletter back, we need to talk about what changes it needs, like if an issue is monthly or quarterly and other stuff like that. GamerPro64 (talk) 21:34, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

I'd love it to be monthly. But for now I'd say either quarterly or bi-monthly. I do not think we have enough activity to warrant it being it monthly yet. Any other opinions? 99.241.142.34 (talk) 15:20, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
I agree, we need to build up our member base first, and that's the tricky part.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 16:37, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
Any new ideas? --TÆRkast (Communicate) 21:10, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
Well, I'm in favor of the creation of a horror-invite template, like Andrzejbanas mentioned above. I think it would greatly help to attract new members who don't know there's a Wikiproject dedicated to horror. Kaguya-chan (talk) 21:50, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
I think both a newsletter and invite-template would be helpful in attracting new members. With regards to the invite template, how is it going to be sent? --TÆRkast (Communicate) 22:18, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
Yes, a newsletter would help too. With the invite, that's where it gets tricky (probably not the words you wanted to read). I think the members of the Horror Wikiproject should keep our eyes peeled for people who edit horror-related articles reasonably frequently and send them an invite. It's not a method for recruiting masses of members at one time, but one that will bring results over time. Or not. Personally, I think the problem facing this Wikiproject is that not enough people know about it. Kaguya-chan (talk) 22:43, 7 January 2011 (UTC)
I can think of one person who may be interested in joining. As for sending invites, MuZemike has a bot that could do stuff like that. GamerPro64 (talk) 00:30, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
Sounds good.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 13:17, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
One way to find candidates is to check for "contributors" in certain articles like the ones for classic horror icons. Anyone who has edited one of them substantially and is still active could be a candidate. For example, The Amityville Horror shows that User:Ianmacm has worked substantially on it. Erik (talk | contribs) 17:28, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
That's a good idea, well worth doing.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 17:49, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
OK, I've placed a hidden underconstruction template at the Outreach department, where the newsletter is, and might do the same for the Collaboration department. These, and an invite template, should be our top priority now. I still won't be very active until the end of January, but others are welcome to make the changes. Also, feel free to update the todo list in the main Prokect page.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 22:17, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
Well, we're gonna have to get started sooner or later. Perhaps setting a specific date for work to begin might help. Thoughts? --TÆRkast (Communicate) 14:09, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Would it be possible to get something going by mid Feb? Andrzejbanas (talk) 16:23, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Hopefully, my exams will be over by then (until the next ones), and a good 2 months I'll be able to do stuff as well, so hopefully that's possible.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 16:30, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Alright, I'm going to see if any other horror project pages need cleaning up and updating, in the mean time, perhaps a Coordinator election should be held earlier than expected, which may help, but that's just an idea. We should probably get to work on the Newsletter.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 19:19, 1 February 2011 (UTC)
I'll try to start a draft this week if I have any free time. GamerPro64 (talk) 00:11, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
OK no probs.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 20:39, 2 February 2011 (UTC)
Alright, I started up the newsletter. If anyone has any suggestions on what to add to the newsletter draft, please make it at the Newsletter tip line. GamerPro64 (talk) 00:26, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
OK. Will do.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 17:41, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

List of A Nightmare on Elm Street characters

Hi all, I recently revamped this article because it looked like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_A_Nightmare_on_Elm_Street_characters&diff=414845182&oldid=413566705

Why it looked like this when its part of what is not a tiny franchise, I don't know, but I've gone over the entire thing to bring it in line with the List of Saw characters and List of Scream characters as quick examples so it now looks like this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_A_Nightmare_on_Elm_Street_characters

I've done the best I can as I don't really have much knowledge of the films between 2 and New Nightmare, but I'm looking for input basically. I don't personally plan on doing anymore to it but I think I've done the bulk for anyone who wants to make any touches.Darkwarriorblake (talk) 20:22, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

Important: Coordinator Election page

I made the first steps towards an election by creating the election page, I think it's an important step towards the revival of the project, and anybody can chip in towards improving the page. Thanks, --TÆRkast (Communicate) 22:26, 24 February 2011 (UTC)

Requesting peer review

I'm requesting a peer review of Friday the 13th (franchise). See Wikipedia:Peer review/Friday the 13th (franchise)/archive2 for the page. I'm looking for editors that have not significantly contributed to the page (so it's as neutral and independent as possible) to point out descrepancies or issues that need to be answered by another FAC. It's been through 2 copy edits by the League of Copy Editors so I'm hoping there are not any copy editing issues.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 19:50, 26 February 2011 (UTC)

Pageview stats

After a recent request, I added WikiProject Horror to the list of projects to compile monthly pageview stats for. The data is the same used by http://stats.grok.se/en/ but the program is different, and includes the aggregate views from all redirects to each page. The stats are at Wikipedia:WikiProject Horror/Popular pages.

The page will be updated monthly with new data. The edits aren't marked as bot edits, so they will show up in watchlists. You can view more results, request a new project be added to the list, or request a configuration change for this project using the toolserver tool. If you have any comments or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks! Mr.Z-man 00:24, 1 March 2011 (UTC)

FAC nomination needs editors...FAST

The FAC nomination for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is in desperate need of editors voicing opinions, supports, or opposes. This is the fifth nomination and again it's being ignored by reviewers. Previous attempts have failed because of inactivity and not enough people supporting or opposing the article. It's one thing for everyone to say "this is wrong and it needs to be fixed" and another when they don't even bother to show up for support period. User:TaerkastUA has put a lot of work into this article and it's only fair that we band together and do what we can to either support its promotion, or point out any issues that need to be addressed. Please visit Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/The Texas Chain Saw Massacre/archive5 and help save this FAC from being closed because of inactivity.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 16:04, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Update - The FAC was restarted. So if you want to support or make a new comment on the FAC, please do so. GamerPro64 (talk) 00:43, 19 March 2011 (UTC)

Is this project inactive/dead?

I'm starting to look at the amount of inactivity on the part of this project, lack of discussion, and the near-2 year backlog on article assessments and I'm forced to question as to this project's status. I'm honestly just short of running under the assumption that it's dead. ⒺⓋⒾⓁⒼⓄⒽⒶⓃ 16:49, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Hi, firstly, I would like to direct you to the first section of this talk page called Re-emergence, which shows that we do have a small group of active editors still willing to edit. As is discussed there, we're trying to revitalise this project, so, it's not dead, just very, very inactive until we can come up with something to attract new participants.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 16:59, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
I missed that so my apologies. ⒺⓋⒾⓁⒼⓄⒽⒶⓃ 19:06, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
Nah, it's OK. I really don't want this project to die out, so we do need to come up with something, I was thinking of a coordinator's election at this page, but I doubt that would attract much.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 19:12, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

NAncy Thompson/Nancy Holbrook

Should Nancy Holbrook actually be on the Nancy Thompson page? They share base similarities at best, they are not the same character except in first name. Apart from the fate of her mother and the fact she brings Freddy into the real world they share no direct story traits any more than she does with whatserface from Freddy Vs Jason Darkwarriorblake (talk) 19:34, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

Coordinator Election

I know we don't have a lot of members at the moment, but maybe holding a coordinator election may bring some attention to us. Anybody interested could add their name. I really don't want this project to die, for Hornoir's sake who tried hard to breathe some new life into this project.--TÆRkast (Communicate) 20:13, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

OK. We seem to have a bit more members, so I think holding the election will definitely be useful. --TÆRkast (Discuss) 11:26, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

I am putting Friday the 13th (2009 film) up for peer review, and I am soliciting as many opinions as possible. Please come to the peer review discussion page to voice your critiques.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 20:28, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Bumping this. I've received one editor's comments. I would really appreciate a few more before the peer review is archived. Thanks.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 01:17, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Scores, soundtracks and incidental music

I added this to what the project is about, please correct if I'm wrong; I think there are some pieces of music that are unquestionably identified with certain fictional horror themes, such as Tubular Bells, Hello Zepp, the theme from Halloween, etc. and thus should be included in the project. LovelyLillith (talk) 12:22, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Requesting additional opinions (again)

I'm requesting additional opinions at Talk:Jason Voorhees#Recent additions of new actor?. There is a disagreement as to whether someone deserves credit in the infobox for portraying a character in a single scene. One party says yes, and the other disagrees. Others are encouraged to come and weigh in so that we can have this matter settled because it's just turning into an edit war.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 00:44, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

Active?

Is this Horror WikiProject still active? I've noticed that Nihonjoe (talk · contribs) removed the semi-active tag. Also, I am starting to feel that the notice board of the Horror WikiProject is inactive since there is no activity. JJ98 (Talk) 11:51, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

I can honestly say that this project is active. I have been updating the front page everytime an article becomes a Good Article. GamerPro64 14:31, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
It is active, but not as much as it could be. We've been trying to come up with ideas to recruit new members.--TÆRkast (Discuss) 15:03, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

Request for Comment

Re Wrong Turn 2: Dead End. Recently, an editor, User:87Stone, has edited the plot summary's fairly good English into what is clearly poor English which appears to be written by someone whose native language is not English.[1] I have reverted him twice, but he persists in restoring his own odd version.[2][3] He has not provided a single edit summary to justify these changes. Since I originally rewrote this section myself (it was formerly not in very good English and contained a number of inaccuracies), and therefore do not wish to be seen to be laying claim to the section's ownership, and also do not wish to revert him three times, I would appreciate comment on the talk page on these edits. -- Necrothesp (talk) 09:43, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello! You can try to look for images on Flickr and ask the copyright holder to change an image's license to Creative Commons Attribution or Attribution-ShareAlike. I did this with Alex Tse and Jane Hamsher. You could ask for the copyright holder of this image to change the license, and you can create a derivative work that can crop that image into more of a portrait. Future of this project

I have some thoughts about what to do with this project and its future.

  • This project is hanging on by a thread
  • I'm planning to attempt another FAC on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
  • I want to hold a coordinator election at some point.
  • We need more members.
  • The newsletter has stalled, we need to revive it (again).
  • Looking at the cleanup listing might help active participation, i.e. a cleanup drive or something.

You are all free to add your own thoughts.--TÆRkast (Discuss) 18:54, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Anybody? --TÆRkast (Discuss) 15:43, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
I think these are all great ideas, I just wish I could help. I don't have a lot of time right now to do much on here, let alone help revive this project. :(  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 15:50, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
Well, I'll do what I can. Chain Saw is my top priority, although the FAC will no doubt be another onslaught of reviewers.--TÆRkast (Discuss) 17:38, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
How about an auto assessment? I've created a category subpage myself that will automatically assess by a bot. It is possible to do that? JJ98 (Talk / Contributions) 04:34, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
That's not a bad idea at all. Should be possible.--TÆRkast (Discuss) 11:07, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Agree. The auto parameter still exists on the banner. I've made few changes on the WikiProject Horror project banner myself, including the peer review parameter. It looks like DodoBot (talk · contribs) can auto assess any horror fiction-related articles and that would save the project. I go request it myself. Please note that this may take while. Remember, this WikiProject is about the horror fiction genre, not the emotion. JJ98 (Talk / Contributions) 00:32, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
Concur with Bignole. I'm still watching and I still keep an eye on a lot of project related articles. I just haven't had a lot of time lately. But I think your ideas are great and I'd be happy to pitch in more than just watching articles if/when my schedule clears up. Millahnna (talk) 04:51, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
It's no easy task for sure, but I refuse to let this project fail. Kind of carrying on from the work of Hornoir (talk · contribs) who tried revitalising this project two years ago, but hasn't edited since. I'll see what I can do to bring life back into this project.--TÆRkast (Discuss) 11:07, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Perhaps some could volunteer for the jobs at the Task Center. I'll also request another interview at the Signpost and get the Coordinator Election started--TÆRkast (Discuss) 18:36, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
Ah bugger. I would like to work on the Newsletter again but I need some assistance with it. We could rework the format to be like Wikipedia:WikiProject Video games/Newsletter. GamerPro64 22:41, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
I like it. I'll help if I can. As for the overall project, I believe the Task Center should be a starting point for any sort of revival.--TÆRkast (Discuss) 13:29, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

We also have a number of regional and topical task forces that you may be interested in joining as well.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask at the project talk page. We look forward to working with you in the future!

Of course, the invitation above is only an example. It would be a good way of letting other editors know about the project. Kaguya-chan (talk) 05:01, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I haven't had a look at your contributions, but have you been adding any comments to other FAC reviews? This might encourage other users to give their two cents on the Texas Chain Saw Massacre article. Good luck with the project. cya Coolug (talk) 16:15, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
I like your suggestions and would be very happy to see a revival of this project. I have been making my way through the history of horror films, watching them with with my wife (god bless her), and attempting to provide importance and quality assessments to all of the horror films as we go - we're in 1968 right now. I try to put my assessments in larger context (i.e. not just my opinion of the film), supported by comprehensive texts such as Worland 2006 and Hardy 1995. Also, I've put a lot of effort into the List of horror films, which is, I feel, a foundation of my personal project, as well as that of this wikiproject.
I would be willing to volunteer in the Assessment Department, with the caveat that I don't realistically expect to assess everything in the near term (>3/4 of the nearly 10,000 articles lack importance assessments). I would also like to see a revival of discussions on Top-importance articles. There seem to be a lot more of them listed in the assessment table than are listed in WP:WikiProject_Horror/Assessment/Top-importance. Have they all been discussed at some point? Sp4cetiger (talk) 21:15, 9 September 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. It's good to know there's still interest. As for the discussion of importance of articles, I doubt a lot, if any, has taken place so far, due to our numbers. I'm still interested in an election this year, but I'm not sure how we'd go about that right now, I did create that page in the hope of holding one this year.--TÆRkast (Discuss) 13:56, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
Considering how little involvement there is in the project at the moment, I'm not sure how meaningful it would be to elect multiple coordinators. Perhaps if we held a single election for coordinator, that person could designate the other positions as they saw fit. Then if involvement increased in the future, we could add more elected positions. Since the coordinators don't hold any real power and the project is in dire straits, I think we should emphasize efficiency over equity -- that is, minimize the number of formal steps involved in getting things done. Considering your experience and interest, I think you would be a natural candidate for the position. Sp4cetiger (talk) 17:15, 11 September 2011 (UTC)
Well, our organzation is basically, 1 Coordinator, 1 Deputy, and maybe assistants, but that may be phased out. 2 people basically. I suppose I could continue in the interim, although delegating positions may be difficult due to time restraints on the part of our editors.--TÆRkast (Discuss) 11:37, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
OK, I guess I'll stand for the coordinator election, just to put the page to some use. Can somebody check over the page, I'm not sure I've set it up properly.--TÆRkast (Discuss) 12:19, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Book reports

BTW, if you haven't noticed, the book reports for Wikipedia books have been extensively tweaked to help editors assess and cleanup articles. See for example Book talk:Friday the 13th#Book report, which are automatically updated by User:NoomBot every few days. Features include breakdowns of article assessments, lists of cleanup tags found in the article, lists of non-free media, and a bunch of links to tools likes the external links inspector or the disambiguation fixer. Books and their talkpages can pretty much acts as mini-wikiprojects / mini-taskforces. One could easily make Book:Evil Dead and Book:Alfred Hitcock (or zillions of others), and work on Evil Dead / Hitchcock as a "topic/project/taskforce" or something.

Many books are created at WP:FTC, but you don't need to wait until then to gain their benefits (just click on "create a book" on the left sidebar and use the book creator tool, or create them "manually" by following Help:Books/for experts#Saving books). Just thought I'd let you know. Headbomb {talk / contribs / physics / books} 07:05, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Halloween

Halloween is coming up, and is of special significance to this project, so I think we should come up with something special to do this month. Any ideas? --TÆRkast (Discuss) 12:30, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Last year I tried to make a little effort to get more Horror related articles related to the Halloween "Did You Know?" section of wikipedia. We could try to do that again! Andrzejbanas (talk) 16:16, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
That's a good idea. 1 October would've been a good date for a DYK on The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.--TÆRkast (Discuss) 16:25, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
How about doing a Collaboration of the Month project?--TÆRkast (Discuss) 18:30, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
In case anyone's interested, there's a discussion about having The Human Centipede (First Sequence) on the main page. Some think this is a good idea, others do not. Thoughts always appreciated :) See Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests cya! Coolug (talk) 07:04, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
Another good call. The other articles on bats aren't a bad idea either, but I'm supporting this one for the project. Great work again on that FA by the way! Andrzejbanas (talk) 18:16, 19 October 2011 (UTC)
Speaking of the Collaboration of the Month project, can we start with Eraserhead, it has four supports. GamerPro64 20:15, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Good idea, that can get it going again, and maybe as time goes on more people will join in. We'll need to start gathering sources for this collaboration, then a copyedit, who knows, it might end up one day at FA status. P.S. I did add my name to the election page which, while not much, serves a purpose at least. It's more like a formality, but I'd like to put that page to at least some use.--TÆRkast (Discuss) 20:55, 22 October 2011 (UTC)

Hey, in case you guys are interested, I've properly nominated the article now, you can support/oppose/comment on the nomination at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests. Thanks! Coolug (talk) 10:42, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Supported it :) Good luck.--TÆRkast (Discuss) 14:10, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Request for input

Hi everybody! Hula Hup (talk · contribs) and I have been having a bit of a civil discussion here over whether or not character occupations should be considered trivia or not, and what to do with the Silent Hill character list, as I understand it. Input from project members would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Kaguya-chan (talk) 19:58, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Happy New Year! So, Hula Hup and I were wondering if anyone here could think of a better title for "List of Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, and Silent Hill 3 characters". Any input is greatly welcome and always appreciated! Thank you, Kaguya-chan (talk) 17:30, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
What was wrong with "list of Silent Hill characters?". Alternatively, "List of Silent Hill video game characters" or "List of characters in the Silent Hill franchise". Actually, why is Homecoming (and the others) left out?--TÆRkast (Discuss) 17:39, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
They lacked information about them that wasn't plot summary (for example, design commentary). (There's actually a long, long discussion about that if you have the time.) If you found any, that's awesome! Kaguya-chan (talk) 17:45, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

WikiWomen's History Month

Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:Horror will have interest in putting on events related to women's horror history - from actors to writers, characters, etc. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. I don't think so, looking at it, a lot of the articles within would not squarely fit into the current sub-categories. It doesn't you can't re-file the ones which could be in more specific sub-categories. Sorry for the slow response. Someoneanother 01:47, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Resignation as Coordinator

It is with great reluctance thar I resign as Coordinator of the project. I feel I no longer have the time to be able to do what is expected of a Coordinator, and that as the Coordinator, I didn't really do a great job in anycase. It was good to serve though, and this does coincide with my semi-retirement, and possible eventual complete retirement from Wikipedia. I do have one last project to take to FA though, related to horror, and those that have seen or worked with me on the project know what it is :) So I hope my replacement (if there is one, I'd like to think there'd be) would be able to do a much better job than I have in revitalising the project. List of The Walking Dead (TV series) characters

The page List of The Walking Dead (TV Series) characters is practically a duplicate of List of The Walking Dead (TV series) characters. The only difference in the title, is the capitalization of the word "series", and per Wikipedia policy it should NOT be capitalized. Since both lists are large and may have had different information added to them, they should be merged instead of doing a simple redirect, so that no original information is missed. The table at the bottom of the RE articles is currently:

Can i ask why Operation Raccoon City is classified as a Spin off? Except for the option to kill Leon at then end there don't appear to be any other things to class it as a spin off and it fits in with the other games in the series fine. Women's History Month is in March

Hi everyone at WikiProject Horror!

Women's history month is around the corner, in March, and we're planning the second WikiWomen's History Month.

This event, which is organized by volunteers from the WikiWomen's Collaborative, supports improving coverage about women's history during the month of March. Events take place both offline and online. We are encouraging WikiProjects to focus on women's history related to their subject for the month of March. Ideas include:

  • Biographies about women who are actors, characters, writers, producers, directors, or authors of horror
  • Key articles that focus on research and studies about horror and women

We hope you'll participate! You can list your your project focus here, and also help improve our to-do list. Thank you for all you do for Wikipedia! SarahStierch (talk) 20:37, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

Traditional ghost stories

I noticed that the this project's template as placed on every article it covers says "fictional horror". However, the articles Kaidan and Tales of Moonlight and Rain are also in here. "Kaidan" in Japanese tend to refer to folk-tales featuring ghosts, but not necessarily "horror fiction" (in that many of them were taken as historical). Similarly, Tales of Moonlight and Rain is a collection of Japanese adaptations of old Chinese ghost stories, but Ghosts in Chinese culture is not in here. Additionally, the word kaidan in English originates in the book of the same name, but that article also isn't covered here (even though the film version is). elvenscout742 (talk) 08:13, 7 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I've created a Google's custom search engine based on the sites listed at User:MichaelQSchmidt/Reliable sources for horror films. Suggest Edit for an Article

Hi, I am new here and would like to suggest an edit for the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigappu_Rojakkal

Under the Remakes section it was stated that "Sigappu Rojakkal was remade in Japanese as Red Roses (1979)" - There are no results from Google search regarding a Japanese movie titled Red Rose in reference to Sigappu Rojakkal - are there any references to this?

However I have found a Japanese movie from 1979 titled "Beautiful Girl Hunter" which seems to have a similar plot to Sigappu Rojakkal and could be the Japanese movie in question.

As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).

Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.

If you have any questions, want to report any bugs, or there are any features you would like to see that aren't currently available on the Toolserver tools, see the updated FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Mr.Z-bot (talk) (for Mr.Z-man) 05:10, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Wikiproject banner issues

I noticed the wikiproject banner for WP:HORROR seems to take more space than necessary. Especially when it comes to the B-criteria list. it adds a second slot for the criteria right under the top one. so whether its start, C, or B, that B criteria block is there. If you look at talk:Uzumaki, WP:ANIME seems to condense the B-list criteria much more efficiently. Perhaps this wikiproject and mirror the WP:ANIME's wikproject banner? Another issue i find is the horror image is pretty big. is there anyway to make that smaller? not by much, but just enough to shrink it. Lucia Black (talk) 04:00, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

It could be shrunk and I'm not against the idea of changing the icon or using a smaller one. I'm not really sure on the standards it takes to do this though. Anyone in the know or anyone who knows someone in the know? Andrzejbanas (talk) 18:02, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! Hi, there is currently a discussion taking place at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Video games#VG comments subpages regarding whether it would be acceptable to permanently shift all comments subpages associated with WP:VG articles into talk. This shift would follow the recommended approach given at WP:DCS. The WikiProject Horror articles that would be affected by this action are these:

If you have objections related specifically to WikiProject Horror's use of these subpages, please make this clear at the discussion so that other unrelated talk pages can be cleaned up where appropriate. Thank you. -Thibbs (talk) 15:54, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Be advised that there is an WP:RFC at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Actors_and_Filmmakers#RFC:_Filmography_navboxes with the intent of creating a general rule to support deleting templates at Category:Film producer navigational boxes, Category:Film writer navigational boxes, Category:Television producer templates, Category:Television creator templates, and Category:Television writer templates.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 18:18, 23 April 2015 (UTC)

WP:HORROR Icon

Hello crew! I will start trying to re-vamp this group slightly in the summer. One item I was thinking of doing was replacing our current icon of ol' Dracula with something a little snappier. I've found these images on the commons:

Thoughts? Andrzejbanas (talk) 23:15, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Definitely a good idea. Personally, I really like both, but.. I guess I'll go with spooky house. Rapunzel-bellflower (talk) 00:48, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
The icon needs to look good when it's small, so I'd rather go with spooky castle. ... Or not changing it, or some other option. — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 08:49, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for your replies guys! I like both, but I agree with @Jeraphine Gryphon:, that the castle stands out more when shrunk down. I've been playing around with a new front page for WP:HORROR which can be viewed here. Thoughts so far? Andrzejbanas (talk) 10:07, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

Tenebrae FAR

I have nominated Tenebrae (film) for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. WikiProject Horror Re-Design

Hello everyone. As mentioned above, I've been attempting a re-design of the main page of WP:HORROR. This will make our group a little easier to navigate I think.

You can view a sample of the new design here.

I'd like to get it running within a week's time. Does anyone have any questions or comments? Andrzejbanas (talk) 01:31, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

Looks nice. Great work! :) Rapunzel-bellflower (talk) 01:49, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

So this is not directly related to your draft but I noticed our "to-do list" has this point: "Hold elections for Coordinator, Deputy Coordinator and Assistant coordinators." No. Let's not. Let's remove that line, and let's do away with the current "coordinator" and "editor-in-chief" positions. WikiProjects don't have hierarchies. I didn't join this project to support someone's power-trip. Members are all equal. — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 09:15, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

I actually removed it from our list. ;) I don't think anyone was taking these roles seriously and anyone can be here to supervise and try and organize new tasks, etc. Andrzejbanas (talk) 10:32, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
Wikipedia:WikiProject Horror/to do. — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 10:47, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
Ah yes. Whups. Removed! Andrzejbanas (talk) 11:01, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
@Andrzejbanas: So I'm gonna be a major buzzkill now but I think the redesign needs a redesign. See this: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Council#Mobile_viewability_.28tables_vs_columns.29. Basically, the design uses tables (like a lot of Wikiproject pages currently do), but it's a bad idea. Tables are meant to be used for displaying tabular data, not for designing pages. Using tables for whole page design can cause different kinds of problems. I'm not making this up, html table layouts are a widely discussed issue on the rest of the internet. I don't have a solid solution right now but I'm working on it myself since I'm planning a redesign of WikiProject Paranormal. But I decided to work on the content first and design the layout later. I'm probably going to use floating divs though, where necessary. (My userpage for example doesn't contain any big tables, the right sidebar is inside a float:right div.) — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 13:52, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
No that's totally true and understandable. That's why I posted it here first before I went out and just posted it. My only concern would be as this is a project page and not a wiki article, are we as concerned with mobile compatibility? I'd imagine we are still, but if not, I can try to clean up portions of this page on my own. Andrzejbanas (talk) 15:20, 31 May 2015 (UTC)
You might want to ask that on that WikiProject Council thread. — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 15:26, 31 May 2015 (UTC)

Adam Wingard

I'm interested in expanding on articles for the films of horror director Adam Wingard. I was hoping I could solicit help from the horror group. Horror icon

So to update the project, I'm proposing we update our icon. I know on the main page it's still Dracula while we've had the haunted house. But no set conclusion. I've found some of these icons, which some could be possible good ones for the project. They are clean and simple and may be better than the haunted house.

I would suggest some of the following:

I think personally the jason mask one gives more of a pop culture identity to the group that the Dracula one did, but still looks more like an icon rather than a odd image. Thoughts? Let's vote and get something sorted out. Andrzejbanas (talk) 02:05, 27 March 2016 (UTC)

Doctor Sleep intro

Hi horror fans, I want to edit the introduction to the Wikipedia entry on the Stephen King novel Doctor Sleep. Greetings WikiProject Horror/Archive 5 Members!

This is a one-time-only message to inform you about a technical proposal to revive your Popular Pages list in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:

If the above proposal gets in the Top 10 based on the votes, there is a high likelihood of this bot being restored so your project will again see monthly updates of popular pages.

Further, there are over 260 proposals in all to review and vote for, across many aspects of wikis.

Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.

Hello @PanagiotisZois:! • The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
  • The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

Wikipedia has many thousands of wikilinks which point to disambiguation pages. It would be useful to readers if these links directed them to the specific pages of interest, rather than making them search through a list. Members of WikiProject Disambiguation have been working on this and the total number is now below 20,000 for the first time. Some of these links require specialist knowledge of the topics concerned and therefore it would be great if you could help in your area of expertise.

A list of the relevant links on pages which fall within the remit of this wikiproject can be found at http://69.142.160.183/~dispenser/cgi-bin/topic_points.py?banner=WikiProject_Horror

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   10:58, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

sources for horror reviews?

I'm working on a page for a successful independent horror author. His works get lots of reviews, but I'm not finding very many reviews in newspapers. You can see his list of reviews. Sites like "The Horror Fiction Review" and "Horror Novel Reviews" seem on the border of reliable sources to me, but are they commonly accepted in the horror community? Thanks Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 17:31, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

@Rachel Helps (BYU): I will offer my thoughts, as this page isn't really patrolled, but I do not edit articles about horror writing (rather, I edit horror video game articles). Neither of the sites you mentioned look like reliable sources to me. Horror Fiction Review openly states their bias: "This is a FANZINE. If you want more critical reviews, a FANzine might not be the best place to look." Now bias does not make a source inherently unreliable, but they also have no editorial policy listed, and no information on who the authors are and their credentials. Horror Novel Reviews at least has author bios, but nothing there gives any credence to their reliability. They just appear to be fans, not professional horror or book critics. I'm not familiar with sources in the book review world, but in the video game world, sources like this would be considered unreliable. TarkusABtalk 18:06, 28 February 2019 (UTC)
thank you, it's helpful to know that I'm not alone in questioning them as good sources! I was able to find a few news articles and award nominations, so hopefully that will be enough. Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 19:18, 28 February 2019 (UTC)

How is article importance determined?

I was wondering how new articles (or any articles, for that matter) are evaluated in terms of importance. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 18:59, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

Importance is determined by how much focus you think the article deserves. For example a great well written article on a major subject might not be deemed "top priority" because it doesn't need much focus right now, because it's already good, while a stub on a smaller subject migh be in need urgent checks by many editors to fix it.★Trekker (talk) 19:16, 14 September 2019 (UTC)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Caligari FAC needs attention

Hello all. I've nominated The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari for FA. So far the comments have been positive and leaning toward support, but it's at risk of getting archived because there haven't been enough editors weighing in on the conversation. If possible, please check out the FAC page and offer some feedback. Thanks! — Hunter Kahn 18:31, 11 November 2019 (UTC)

Begotten GA Nomination

I have been working on an off again on expanding the article for the 1989 film Begotten for about 4 years now. I thought it would be nice, and ironic, to have it all approved for GA status before the year ends considering that it took 4 years to make the film. That and I want to get started on moving it to FA status soon as well. Feel free to let me know if you are willing to do so.--Paleface Jack (talk) 16:37, 12 November 2019 (UTC)

100 Horror films GAs

Just want to say to everyone who works on these films on making 100 GA film articles for WikiProject horror. I know the point of this groups is to collaborate on projects and we haven't always done it fully, but I'm glad we were able to reach this bit. Let's keep going. :) Andrzejbanas (talk) 13:04, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

I'd like to give a shout out to @Paleface Jack: who has done amazing work on many horror articles.★Trekker (talk) 11:33, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Bringing Historically Significant and Influential Horror Topics to FA Status

Hello Horror Family! It has been on my mind for some time that many articles on subjects that are influential/significant to the Horror genre have not been given the love/attention they deserve, which is a shame considering how much the genre has been shaped by them. From articles such as those on influential novels (Dracula, Frankenstein, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, etc.), films (Nosferatu, Universal Horror films, Halloween, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and so many others), characters, and other subjects have either been relegated to low-level status or stuck at GA. In my personal opinion, it would be hugely beneficial to bring such articles up to Featured Status as they are HUGELY significant subjects that have progressed the Horror genre and, as such are TOP importance. I am currently working on bringing several articles up to FA status at the moment but I would be willing to help collaborate with others in bringing several of these articles to FA status. Just wanted to put this idea out there before I forgot about it again, let me know if any of you are interested in this.--Paleface Jack (talk) 16:28, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

I agree fully. I personally think that there is a lot to be done regarding the Universal Classics that is long overdue.★Trekker (talk) 17:11, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
That does seem like a fun idea to take in. Ill look through the listings after my current FAC is done. GamerPro64 19:09, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
I have a really strong book about the making of Dracula that I could contribute with. I've been slowly working through some of the more obscure early Universal titles that were listed in Tom Weaver "Universal Horror" book and have submitted Cat People for a GA review that should be finished soon. Horror film article

I am tempted to re-write one the article "Horror film from scratch as its currently a mix of dead sources, YouTube links, original research, and over-emphasis on some less important topics. Would anyone in the group be interested in tackling some sort of group project? Although its a large encompassing project, I think tightening it up would make one the most important articles in the project be far more respectable. Would anyone be interesting in joining in? Andrzejbanas (talk) 18:46, 12 July 2020 (UTC)

I'd be open to that.★Trekker (talk) 18:12, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
Great! One more would be better than just myself. I've been a bit busy since I posted this, but we could create some group talk page to try and tackle it up and discuss it. Andrzejbanas (talk) 20:07, 20 July 2020 (UTC)

Reliable sources list

I think it would be good to put together a list of sources typically seen as reliable as far as the horror genre goes, as there are a lot of niche horror sites that may be challenged if an article goes up for AfD or some other form of deletion - or just in general.

Here is my list so far:

  • Dread Central: mainstream horror site
  • Bloody Disgusting: same
  • Rue Morgue: not as mainstream but still generally well known and respected
  • Fangoria: mainstream horror magazine, seen as a bit PR-ish, but generally seen as a reliable source
  • Arrow in the Head/JoBlo: Has editorial oversight, typically seen as a RS
  • Ginger Nuts of Horror: Has editorial oversight (AFAIK), was mentioned in this academic press book, frequently nominated for Locus Awards
  • HorrorNews.net: has editorial oversight, used as source in academic and scholarly texts/articles, typically seen as a RS
  • Daily Dead: Editorial oversight (AFAIK), typically seen as reliable
  • Kim Newman: well known for his critical pieces (also an author in general)
  • Tom Holland's Terror Time: I typically see more PR from there, but there does seem to be editorial oversight.
  • Culture Crypt: Run by a single person AFAIK, but his work has been referred to by big time outlets such as Bloody Disgusting, albeit briefly. Has held interviews with notable persons such as Darren Lynn Bousman
  • Horror Society: Has editorial oversight, typically seen as reliable but may need some closer review
  • iHorror (per comments)
  • Pop Horror (per comments)
  • Den of Geek: Typically seen as reliable AFAIK
  • The Geekiary (per my comment below)

I know I'm forgetting some, but I wanted to get a quick list started. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 08:18, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

  • Cryptic Rock: Used as a source in this Bloomsbury book, this book from a Rowan & Littlefield imprint. It's used in this book from Wipf and Stock, a biblical publisher but one whose works I believe are typically used scholastically.
  • Gruesome Magazine: Has an editorial staff, but that seems to be about it for the most part.
What do you guys think? ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 05:25, 3 October 2020 (UTC)

Here are my source suggestions:

  • CHUD.com- Film review and movie news website and the longest-running site of its kind.
  • IconsofFright.com- Editorial with interviews with actors/actresses and filmmakers in the horror industry.
  • TerrorTrap- Another editorial with reviews and interviews
  • Birth.Movies.Death- Cultural magazine and editorial with news and commentary on films and media.
  • Nightmarish Conjurings- Horror editorial.

--Paleface Jack (talk) 18:08, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

I'm familiar with Chud, IconsofFright and BMD and support those, I don't have any experience with the other two so can't speak yet on them, will check them out.★Trekker (talk) 19:32, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
  • I'm also familiar with CHUD and BMD. Nightmarish Conjurings looks OK - I was a little nervous that the about page had no info, but they're listed as a trusted critic on RT (both site and founder) and the founder Shannon McGrew is also interviewed here by TIME, which is reassuring. It was also cited as a source in a book published by ABC-CLIO, which typically has some strong editorial oversight. I'll look into the other two. Love Horror as a source?

I'm in the process of trying to create articles for films released during the 2020 FrightFest in London (side note, if anyone wants to pick up one, I've got a list with sources in my sandbox). I've frequently come across the website Love Horror and I can't remember if this was seen as usable or not. The about page gives off the impression that it should be usable and they do have editorial staff]. There's positive feedback, but it's from the people whose stuff they've reviewed. They do have praise from the Tromalicious Lloyd Kaufman, so they have that in their corner as far as I'm concerned. There's not much popping up from it being used in books and the like, except this McFarland text. That may be more due to the website having a name that bring up a lot of false positives, though.

What's your opinion? I say it's usable offhand. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 05:29, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

@ReaderofthePack: If the article from Love Horror is written by a reputable reporter (such as John Squires), the FA precedent is that it's considered usable. If not, then I'm not so sure. Darkknight2149 04:56, 14 March 2021 (UTC) Actually, it looks like I was confusing it with Horror Love. Yeah, I have never heard of this site lol. Sorry about that. Film article suggestions

Hey, I put together a list of films needing articles. I'm feeling a bit too lazy to do them all myself, so decided to post here in case someone(s) was interested. They all have sourcing and just need to be written up. Lately I've been feeling more like just scouting for sourcing than writing, TBH. The list can be found here. The general way I do sourcing is that I have the reviews in one section and articles about the film (interviews, release dates, etc) in another. The stuff you'd typically see in the external links section are at the top. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 13:46, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

@ReaderofthePack: It always seems weird to me to see how other wiki editors sort their notes. This system actually makes sense because you have a working list with citations and anyone can pick a topic and start an article. I have seen so many wiki workshop preparations and everyone does this differently. Cool system. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:55, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
  • @Bluerasberry: Thanks! I used to just throw all of the sources together as I'd create the article right then and there. I changed it after going back to it and realizing that I had to sort them through all over again to determine what was what, as well as the where it was published. Sorting it like this ahead of time just cuts down on that a little, plus helps when I'm trying to determine if something is notable enough for an article while I'm still looking for sourcing. Plus I can just use abbreviations to refer to publications, like dc for Dread Central and so on. ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 15:44, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

I have nominated The Pit and the Pendulum (1961 film) for a featured article review here. Psycho-biddy

Hi! This article was brought up to AfD by Matt Deres and a good discussion has been started. I don't want to split the discussion, but I did want to draw new people in. The general gist is this:

There have been concerns that the coverage for the genre has been too recent and that it would be best merged into another article. A few suggestions were tossed around, such as merging content into gender in horror films (as the subgenre deals with older women) and even creating an article on the portrayal of elderly women in horror - or of elderly persons in horror in general.

I think that creating any new article among those lines would potentially be a larger undertaking, so I thought it'd be good to enlist people. Any input on this? ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 16:59, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

External links on H. P. Lovecraft article

I would like to ask whether it would be appropriate to add to Lovecraft's article's external links section this list of links to online audiobooks of Lovecraft's works. It includes most of the stories he wrote alone and some of his poetry, nonfiction writings, and collaborative stories, and it is much more complete than his Librivox page, which is currently linked in the External Links. Removing a template

Hi. Relative newbie here. At Wikipedia:Teahouse, they said I should come to the Wikipedia horror group and ask about removing a template at the article Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards, which I've been expanding because of a "notability" template there.

If we're all horror fans here then you know the Rondos are a fairly big deal. They've been around since 2002, presented annually at a fantasy/horror/sci-fi convention, and they get mentioned regularly in mostly the horror press but also big newspapers. I've put in a bunch of footnotes to cite all this — from websites, newspapers, magazines, scholarly journals and even a textbook.

A I said at the Teahouse, I don't want to just remove the template without it being OK to do so. The Rondos are notable. What does everyone think? The Horror, The Horror (talk) 14:06, 23 July 2021 (UTC)

You're right. There are plenty of references to establish notability. I removed the template while I was looking at the article. Rray (talk) 14:13, 23 July 2021 (UTC)
Thank you! It feels very nice that maybe I'm developing good Wikipedia "instincts." Now that I've found this page, I look forward to working with everyone here! The Horror, The Horror (talk) 22:24, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Bloodthirsty

Hi. I'm going to try my first expansion of a movie article, at Bloodthirsty (2020 film). There's just a single section there and I'm going to follow the model of Werewolves Within to give sections for 1 Plot 2 Cast 3 Production 4 Release 5 Reception 5.1 Box office 5.2 Critical response

At least as best as I can. I'm going into it now, and I'll probably be a half-hour or 40 minutes or so. I'll post back here when I'm done and if I made any mistakes, and I probably will, maybe others here can give me contructive criticism and I will fix. Everyone on Wikipedia has been great to me. Thank you! The Horror, The Horror (talk) 19:41, 28 July 2021 (UTC)

@The Horror, The Horror: Go for it! Feel free to ask for feedback anytime. Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:45, 28 July 2021 (UTC)

Thank you again everyone for being so supportive and encouraging. I probably made some mistakes but I think I found a lot of background on the movie. I thought I would have time today to fill in the plot and to fill out the reviews section using Rotten Tomatoes at https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/bloodthirsty but I hope tomorrow. I hope that's OK. Kim Newman

I just wanted to let WikiProject Horror know I've added biography citations to Kim Newman, and that at the Teahouse they say that the Internet Speculative Fiction Databsae is user-generated and that we shouldn't use it for footnotes. I know I don't have to report here with all my edits but I'm still learning and want to make sure I don't do anything wrong and if I do that I can fix it. Thank you, everyone.
