Bot

I am currently writing a bot to help with this project. When finished, the bot will automatically add infoboxes to all film pages and populate them with the film's data. If all goes well, this bot will add infoboxes to every film page that's lacking one and drive this project to completion. Change to Film project banner

Hi All, There has been a cange made to the project banner for Film. Instead of including the {{Needs film infobox}} it now adds the page to a category directly.

The current category we use is Category:Articles that need a film infobox, but the banner now adds films to Category:Film articles needing infoboxes. I have added a second table to show the other films to the project page, but it might be better to change the {{Needs film infobox}} to use the new category instead. I would try to do this, but have no experience in editing templates. Let me know your thoughts. RWardy 06:54, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

I don't think it's really necessary to do anything with the old template; I've been moving over all of the uses of it by hand (did a couple hundred just now; 389 to go for tomorrow...). Project Status

Is the Infobox Project still going on? Wanted? I am not sure how active this project is, as I don't see a lot going on. If its still desired, I am willing to dive in. I'd appreciate some feedback on this. I am a relative newbie so don't bite my head off for asking (or asking in wrong place or manner). Thanks Jacksinterweb (talk) 23:30, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

This project is always ongoing, as we continually have new film articles that are lacking infoboxes. There are so many different things that are needed to be done within WP:FILMS, so efforts are not always focused just on infoboxes. You can list your name if interested in helping and then choose which articles you add infoboxes for. If you take a look at the Template:WikiProject Films tasks, you'll see a list of articles that could really use an infobox, and I will usually update that at least once a week. I'm also considering holding a drive to get as many infoboxes/images added as possible later this month, so keep an eye out for that at WP:FILMS. Suggestion

PLEASE stop referring to Worldwide Box Office as "gross revenue" in the film infobox. it's horrendously wrong.

1) films don't account for box office as revenue, they account for their share of the theatrical rentals.

2) it ignores completely other release windows, TV / HV / PPV, etc.

take a look at any participation statement, you'll see what i mean.

Inclusion of film series chronology info

I would like to see chronology sequence data added to the infobox; this will aid in placing series films in proper order (such is becoming necessary with some film arcs, such as the James Bond and Final Fantasy franchises, now becoming interminable in number. Cast vs "Starring" performers

Not a very active discussion page, but the right starting point for my question. The infobox for most movie articles duplicates many ordinary "Cast" members under "Starring" in the infobox. See, for example, this one, which explicitly bills Gregory Peck as the sole "star". But his name is joined under "Starring" by another seven names, all of which have been spelled out in the Cast section. Formerly a star was defined as an actor whose name was placed above the film's title in advertising matter. WP should limit the term to those actors whose drawing power is equal to or greater than the title of a film. Bjenks (talk) 08:38, 8 January 2024 (UTC)
