How to join?

You just add your name to the list. Then you find an article in (presumably) French wikipedia and translate / adapt it. Try and find a couple of accessible sources before you start in order to avoid stopping after a couple of hours because there weren't any usable sources that you could find. (Wiki-en is much keener on sources than the other language versions, though both wiki-fr and wiki-de are more source conscious than they were a few years back.)

This Intertranswiki site was relaunched with much fanfare a few years ago, but in recent years there's been only one person setting up batches for translation and then doing the translations / adaptations. Being a creature of habit I carry on setting up a new batch each month, not on the French specific page but here, and then, since no one else does it, I archive it a month later. Several of the people who jumped in back in 2015 or whenever it was still do fine translations, but they don't bother with this project page. Which works for you is down to you. When we started I think there may have been an idea that person B would do translations according to a batch set up by person A or C and vice versa, but that never really worked when there were five, ten or twenty of us. If you set up a batch, then probably it should be a batch that you intend to "do" in due course. The gentleman who recruited us all and set up the transwiki page in this format was a wonderful enthusiast-motivtor and a prolific wiki-contributor which made it very hard to "say him nay", but he is wiki-retired these days which is a very great wiki-pity. But we all get older (and i guess it would confuse the kids if we didn't). Clear as mud? Hmmm. Anyway, consider yourself encouraged and your wiki contributions gratefully appreciated d'avance and, as I wrote, feel very welcome to organise them through the medium of this project. I'm in danger of getting repetitive. Time to stop.

Help?

Hi, I'm TrickShotFinn. I have bit of a pickle with Roland Habersetzer. His entry was taken down by Scope creep and moved to draftspace. I have requested help at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation/Help_desk#09:11:13,_4_November_2021_review_of_draft_by_TrickShotFinn, since I don't know how to get info on Habersetzer, since most of his work/related subjects are in French and German. The French version of Habersetzer's article is devoid of citations as well. So I'm needing somebody to help with the Habersetzer draft, since France is not my best tongue. I mainly need somebody (i.e French-speaker who cares for martial arts from Japan) to find verification of Habersetzer's early life, since info on Habersetzer in English is very limited. Looks a bit niche, and it's not a niche I've visited. However, I did notice that the talk page on which you landed - this one - has been accessed only one time in the last 90 days. So apart from you, I fear I may be the only person to read your message. So I reply. But I'm not sure how helpfully I reply.

If Scope creep transferred your first draft to a draft space, it's probably because he decided that it was never going to become a usable reference source any time soon. If you have an intro para answering the questions (1) who Roland Habersetzer is and (2) why we should be interested in him, and if you include a couple of appropriate categories, and if you include a couple of plausible sources, then you will have a stub-article, and from there you can probably put it back and other contributors, over time, will help you build it, using wiki-fr and sources as appropriate. Though given the niche nature of the topic, probably you should expect, at least over the first year or so, to be the one doing most of the improvement work on it!

Probably the best chance of getting a half decent English-language entry on Roland Habersetzer will nevertheless be to write it yourself. Dig out some plausible sources with google (other search engines are available) or from your own book collection if you have anything in it that fits. If you think you still have a chance of getting help from people who (1) know a bit of the context for the subject and (2) are sufficiently interested to be moved to respond to your appeal, then maybe the best places to place your requests would be here, here and here. We are all volunteers, so you really do need to contact people who know for themselves why the fellow is important! Success Charles01 (talk) 12:08, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
