Wikipedia Day Awards
Hello, all. It was initially my hope to try to have this done as part of Esperanza's proposal for an appreciation week to end on Wikipedia Day, January 15. However, several people have once again proposed the entirety of Esperanza for deletion, so that might not work. It was the intention of the Appreciation Week proposal to set aside a given time when the various individuals who have made significant, valuable contributions to the encyclopedia would be recognized and honored. I believe that, with some effort, this could still be done. My proposal is to, with luck, try to organize the various WikiProjects and other entities of wikipedia to take part in a larger celebrartion of its contributors to take place in January, probably beginning January 15, 2007. I have created yet another new subpage for myself (a weakness of mine, I'm afraid) at User talk:Badbilltucker/Appreciation Week where I would greatly appreciate any indications from the members of this project as to whether and how they might be willing and/or able to assist in recognizing the contributions of our editors. Thank you for your attention. Badbilltucker 20:37, 29 December 2006 (UTC)
Created Category Malayali scientists
created category for Malayali scientists--Kathanar 08:58, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
- Good job! I've added it to the categories list on the portal.
- On a related note, it is high time we created a few more stub categories. Category:Kerala stubs is becoming very large. We could pool in the suggestions here (examples include {{Kerala-history-stub}} or {{Kerala-politics-stub}}) and later take them to Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals for approval.--thunderboltz(Deepu) 14:54, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Silicon Valley Malayalis?

I recently came across this article, which seemed to be on the path to an AFD/speedy-delete [2], and added enough content to establish notability. Malayali
A new user has added a lot of information to Malayali. He told me that since he is not that familiar with Wikipedia, there is probably a need for wikification and copyediting. I took a look at the article and I would have go through and edited it and fixed it up myself, except that I'm rather busy at work and my activities on Wikipedia are limited to performing minor edits and such. I thought I'd post this here to alert other Malayalee Wikipedians of this fact. I also propose moving the article from Malayali to Malayalee. The latter seems to be the more common spelling. --vi5in[talk] 16:23, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Article on Dr. Kumar Bahuleyan suggested
It had been suggested to make a article on Dr. Kumar Bahuleyan. He is a neurosurgeon from Chemmanakary, Kerala who overcame great odds (came from a poor dalit background). He then turns around and donates 20 million dollars to this village to give back to the people who raised and help him. I think its a worthy piece if someone wants to pursue it. Check out this article [4] which says a little a bit about him, as well as google him.--Kathanar 16:48, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Malayalam fonts M.I.A.
Hi,
I was wondering what ever happened to Malayalam fonts since on the Malayalam pages and the Malayalam Wikipedia itself it is filled with a bunch of question marks. I have raised this issue on our WikiProject Dravidian civilizations here. Is there a way to get the Malayalam font back up and working again on Wikipedia? Wiki Raja 20:41, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

- Yes, the article does not belong on an encyclopedia. There are many other such non-encyclopedic genealogical entries from Kerala on Wikipedia. These need to go as well. In this case, much of the historical stuff given there is widely disputed too.--thunderboltz(TALK) 19:10, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

A bunch of Non-notable articles with no proper references (all related to different casts in Kerala). The details are mentioned by anonymous user in Kolath’s DRV. Another list is available here also. Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme
As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.
- The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
- The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
- A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.
Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.
Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! For the 1.0 Editorial Team, §hepBot (Disable) 21:43, 4 July 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Kerala
Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.
We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.
A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.
We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 22:57, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Error in title of the article: Konni
In this article about the town Konni (which is a place of tourist interest), the name of the state Kerala has been mis-spelt as Kerela.
Konni, Kerala redirects to Konni (India). Why not merge the article with Konni (India) since that makes broader sense? Please advise.

anglicised names in the articles
I have a problem with the presentation of the cities in the infobox. Some people think, that it would be not necessary to keep the information i put in (e. g. Thrissur) to make clear, which term is the anglicised form. I would like to see your opinions on the issue. My preference is clear: Ideally, the form in Thrissur should be the standard for Kerala related articles, because readers from outside could be confused easily by the two names. --Stopthenonsense (talk) 10:49, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Please join the discussion
I have nominated Kerala for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Remove" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. --Stopthenonsense (talk) 16:06, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

freedom movment in Kerala
Dear Sir
Kindly permit me to note a small change in the Kerala's participation for freedom struggle. Kerala was no way behind to fight against British empire, it was Pazassi Raja who first revolted against the British, much prior to Mangal Pandey.
Secondly Kunjali Marakar fought against Portugese and British. I however, appreciate the article provides good academic knowledge to young children.

Coconut – language/spellings
The Coconut page has spent most of its history written in Indian English (with spellings like flavour), because of its significance in India and other countries in the Commonwealth. Recently, one American editor has unilaterally changed it to American (flavor), on the grounds that the first early stub versions of the article were in American, and that the coconut is insignificant in India compared to the importance of the USA (where coconuts aren't grown much). If you wish to voice an opinion, please add your commets to the discussion at Talk:Coconut in the Language section at the end of the page. Kerala articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release
Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.
We would like to ask you to review the Kerala articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.
We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Adi shankara
I have nominated Adi Shankara for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. YellowMonkey (new photo poll) 02:53, 28 September 2010 (UTC)
Cleanup/Rewrite needed for article about "Yesudas"
In my opinion, a rewrite and cleanup is needed for the article about Yesudas, one of the most prominent/famous person from Kerala.
Things I noticed in the current version
- Lots of grammatical errors.
- Long sentences with unnecessary details.
- Facts repeated in multiple sections.
- Some sentences sounds like praise rather than fact.
- Lack of relevant details.
Overall a rewrite is needed. Sangfroid (talk) 16:43, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject cleanup listing
I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). Review of Mohanlal
Anyone here with a little time to spare, please take a look at Mohanlal. I have made significant changes to the article. I have also listed it for peer review at Wikiproject India. Also, it would be nice if we can add more images to the article and find reliable sources for material before 2000's.
Please provide your feedback on the aforementioned AfD as its getting highly controversial by days. - Wikiglobaleditor (talk) 08:56, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

This NYT article mentions "Dabba Kali" - A children's game in Kerala, India. It says that there are few sources about it, but many people play it: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/08/business/media/a-push-to-redefine-knowledge-at-wikipedia.html?_r=1&ref=noamcohen

Nedumpally
Can someone please take a look at the article Nedumpally. 218.248.72.195 (talk · contribs) -- same as Ashleypt (talk · contribs) -- has added a huge chunk of text about Indus Valley Civilization, Aryans, Dravidians etc. in the article. This text has no direct connection to the topic of the article. He also keeps removing {{citation needed}} tags for claims like "one of the earliest and largest families" and "have reached Kerala from North India after 1000 BC". Many of the references cited are from Wikipedia pages or unreliable sources (e.g. geocities/angelfire pages).
I've express my concerns about the article at Talk:Nedumpally#Irrelevant_information. The anon user keeps reverting my edits without addressing any of these concerns (here's the last revert).
Since I was involved in editing the content, I don't want to start an edit war or block the user. It'd be nice if someone else can mediate. utcursch | talk 15:13, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

Why on the earth there isn't any articles about current events in Kerala on en-wikipedia? Articles about events happened after 1970 are very scare. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.117.251.108 (talk) 10:56, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

Tag and Assess 2012
The Tag & Assess Drive 2012 has been devised for pending backlog in WP India to achieve
- Quality assessments for unassessed WP India articles.
- Adding importance missed during previous assessment.
- Bringing more articles into the scope of the project and subject them to assessment.
So far 8706 assessments (including quality and importance) have been performed in a span of 10 days. The drive is still open and we encourage participants from WP Kerala to enroll themselves. WP Kerala is one of the daughter projects having huge assessement backlog. The participation would be very much appreciated - thanks in advance.

Request for research in Malayalam
We need help with the article Jayaram Padikkal - which is currently nominated for deletion but I am hopeful that it will be kept. The article does not have any biographical information about the subject - date and place of birth, date and place of death, etc. Any source would probably be in Malayalam since he was from Kerala. Can someone who knows Malayalam look for this information, and add it to the article if found? Thanks. (Request was also posted at WP:India) --MelanieN (talk) 20:31, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
- Followup: The AfD discussion has been closed and the article was kept, but it still lacks basic biographical information. --MelanieN (talk) 15:55, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

Ezhava Article
Hi All. It is very unfortunate that no admins from wiki project kerala patrolling Ezhava and Nair articles in wikipedia as they are getting vandalised by western editors. They referring old and untrustworthy books and changing the articles content. There are many issues with articles neutrality. Happened to see these articles a few months ago and as per Wiki rules tried to talk in the talk page but a stubborn editor is reluctant to make any changes even though reliable source books have been produced to prove that article's content having serious issues.
POV Tag has been taken off from the article without even a consensus in the talk page
Nair has been categorised as "Shudra" caste which is wrong and many contributors brought up this issue, but no use. Ezhava having so much other issues.
We are malayalees and i think we have got right than anyone else to protect our castes and culture as wikipedia is the primary source of knowledge for many people. I request to all admins in this talk board to have a look the communication in Ezhava and Nair talk pages. These wiki pages are kerala related and we should involve and do something now.
Above mentioned editor is a veteran and no other admins are ready to take any action. We must action now or it will be too late to do something. An article thiyyar was created and was in the main space but its been deleted by admins who are only ready to listen above mentioned editors words and these admins blocking all the other contributors who have a different opinion in the talk page.
My account was blocked for 3 days recently for questioning an admins actions. Its controversial for western admins because they dont know anything about indian castes and cultures, I believe it is not at all controversial for indian editors or admins who know the culture and system here. If you look my talk page or ezhava / nair talk page, you can understand the situation.
Sources i have supplied and recognised by WP:RSN [[5]] but its been rejected by other admins. This is one of many reliable sources supplied.
My complaint against admin but they taken action against me. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents&oldid=548546907#Boing.21_said_Zebedee
Since these article contents closely related to Kerala, I wonder why they been controlled / patrolled by western admins. Why admins from (Kerala / India) cant involve in this. Hopeless here and dont know what to do. irajeevwiki talk 04:14, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

Appam article inaccuracies and misquotes
Hello Everybody,
I would like to bring to this group's attention about the inaccurate information being added to Appam food page. Efforts to keep the information neutral is being reverted and repeatedly overwritten by folks who seem to take narrow minded approach based on false interpretation of the facts. All information from other regions and countries are being reverted without proper explanation and contents are being saturated and monopolized by attributing everything to a particular community. I know contents of this page are not of much importance. However, as an article supported by both WikiProject Kerala and WikiProject TamilNadu, I strongly feel that it should represent facts and also be neutral as per Wikipedia guidelines.MariaJeyaraj (talk) 00:41, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

Thiyya
The Thiyya community are an indigenous population of the Malabar region of Kerala. They are the influential Hindu community of prominence in north Malabar, being financially sound and greater in numerical strength. Considered to be highly educated and advanced in every walk of life they were regarded as a forward caste during the British period when Malabar was part of Madras province. As a community they are considered to be emotionally strong with deeper social values thus reacting sharply to injustice and social bigotry.

Date format for Malayalam calendar
What is the abbreviation used for dates in the Malayalam calendar? In the article Pandalam dynasty, I see that CE is being used, such as 995 CE (1820 AD), where in there is a difference of 825 years against the Gregorian calendar. CE is an abbreviation to be used for Common Era, which is numerically the same as AD. The use of CE for the Kollam Era makes the ENTIRE article confusing! Jay (talk) 14:22, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

Noted Ayurveda Physicians from Kerala
Hello All,
Recently, on Feb 28th 2018, Kerala and the world lost an Ayurveda Physician of genius, Dr. Sanjay Pisharodi. I was looking up for his wiki page and realize he and many noted Ayurveda physicians, have none. These stalwarts deserve a mention.
I am happy to create content, if someone would show me the ropes. My first time here :-)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.
If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.
If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.
Thank you. — The Transhumanist 07:44, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

History of thiyya is not a sub title of ezhava. When we search history of thiyya in Google and wickipedia we will get the title ezhava and then sub title thiyya. This is wrong. Who added this history of thiyya like this. Thiyyas are not a sub cast of ezhava. Thiyyas are independent tribes in northern side of Kerala. Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
