Gunpowder Falls State Park Misinformation
In the article for gunpowder state park it states that it is located in northwest baltimore county and eastern harford county when it is actually located in east baltimore county and west harford county. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.81.201.93 (talk) 20:20, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
Overkill on coordinates?
Is it really necessary to include the coordinates in three places within the same article for the location of a locale in Maryland? I found this to be the case in the Bryans Road, Maryland article, where the coordinates appear in the infobox and twice in the body of the article itself. I believe that this practice spans a number of articles for cities, towns, CDPs and communities located in Maryland.
The coordinates should be included in one place only in an article. Anything else is overkill, especially if the article is rather short on content. →Lwalt ♦ talk 03:53, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Once sounds like enough to me although I don't edit enough geography articles to know what standard practice is. Kingdon (talk) 04:47, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- There's no need for more than one set of coordinates, so if the infobox provides for them, that is where they should appear. Mangoe (talk) 19:34, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement
This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:34, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
Maryland Historical Trust
I have replaced all important links to the defunct MHT site on NRHP articles with updated links to working pages. Took about 1,000 edits. Just FYI. Juliancolton | Talk 00:25, 20 May 2010 (UTC)
- Wow! Thanks for doing that. Eli.pousson (talk) 23:27, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
This list is largely complete, but has bits and pieces of information missing, and needs images filled in - any help in completing it would be much appreciated. Cheers! bd2412 T 18:52, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Maryland articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release
Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.
We would like to ask you to review the Maryland articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.
We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Invitation to help with WikiProject United States
Hello, WikiProject Maryland/Archive 6! We are looking for editors to join WikiProject United States, an outreach effort which aims to support development of United States related articles in Wikipedia. We thought you might be interested, and hope that you will join us. Thanks!!! |

This is a very interesting project- I think it's important to draw on modern developments of each county, region and state so we can see the full reaches that such a project could entail. User:E4117 —Preceding undated comment added 22:57, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
Seeking Input for Notre Dame Preparatory School (Towson, MD) Article
The Notre Dame Preparatory School (Towson, Maryland) article has been flagged for reading like an advertisement, lacking citations and was considered for deletion. To improve the article I have drafted up proposed revisions to the Academics and Extracurricular Activities sections. Although much more work is needed, I would appreciate feedback on my initial proposed revisions located in my Sandbow here: User:Crislen/Crislen_Sandbox. Thank you, Crislen (talk) 17:56, 9 November 2010 (UTC)
- Your userspace sandbox is definitely better than what's currently in the article. I know we refer to the school as "Notre Dame Prep" regionally, but this is kind of a nickname. I'd suggest either using the full name, or just referring to "the school" in the article. In the original article, the "School Song" section should be removed since it's unencyclopedic. I also think the infobox contains too much information. Look at Gonzaga College High School for a good example. The logo and one picture help provide visual context, and the infobox contains necessary information, but avoids added a lot of facts and figures that might change rapidly (e.g. class size, Grade 11 enrollment, student-teacher ratio, etc). I'm going to avoid making any of these changes now, since you are working on this article, but feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you need any more help or criticism. Thanks! A consideration for cross project consolidation of talk page templates
I have started a conversation here about the possibility of combining some of the United States related WikiProject Banners into {{WikiProject United States}}. If you have any comments, questions or suggestions please take a moment and let me know. --Kumioko (talk) 19:53, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- I would oppose this change for the reasons many people have expressed. In general, there needs to be a much wider discussion of the relative roles of this project and the proposed scope of the relaunched WikiProject United States. Racepacket (talk) 14:42, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- First lets clarify that many is you and about 4 others with more than 180 recently joining the project (presumably in support of it). As for the role of Maryland, unless the project desire something different I believe that the role is and should be any and all articles pertaining to the State of Maryland. Of course as with many things this may overlap into other projects such as the Washington Metro but in general I would say its pretty clear. I welcome discussions about this projects role however but the scope of WikiProject US (articles relating to US, states and territories and related articles not captured by the US topic related projects) is already clear eventhough you don't like it. Spamming your opinions and personal feelings on the talk pages of all the projects is neither productive nor appropriate. --Kumioko (talk) 14:54, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
US Collaboration reactivated & Portal:United States starting next
Casliber recently posted a suggestion on the talk page for WikiProject United States about getting the US Wikipedians Collaboration page going again in an effort to build up articles for GA through FA class. See Wikipedia:U.S. Wikipedians' notice board/USCOTM. After several days of work from him the page is up and ready for action. A few candidates have already been added for you to vote on or you can submit one using the directions provided. If you are looking for inspiration here is a link to the most commonly viewed articles currently under the scope of Wikiproject United States. There are tons of good articles in the various US related projects as well so feel free to submit any article relating to US topics (not just those under the scope of WPUS). This noticeboard is intended for ‘’’All’’’ editors working on US subjects, not just those under WPUS.
The next item I intend to start updating is Portal:United States if anyone is interested in helping. Again this is not specific to WPUS and any help would be greatly appreciated to maximize visibility of US topics. The foundation has already been established its just a matter of updating the content with some new images, biographies and articles. Please let leave a comment on the Portals talk page or let me know if you have any questions or ideas. --Kumioko (talk) 19:14, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
Guys, there is so much work to be done on coverage of Maryland that I would hope that we can avoid the distraction of Kumioko's well-meaning efforts to restart the WikiProject United States. Let's get back to work here on our articles. If people within this project want to try a collaboration, propose it on the Collaboration section of our Project page rather than getting wrapped up in the other. Racepacket (talk) 14:39, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- Are you really going to spam this same statement on every talk page of every US related project? --Kumioko (talk) 14:55, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- I was posting in those that I was active, but now that you have suggested it, we probably should balance out the misimpression created by the first posting. Racepacket (talk) 18:13, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not sure there is much there to give a misimpression of something other than "We are working on the United States Portal and Collaboration. Neither of which is intended to be specific to WPUS...please help out." Also implied in this is that with more US topic related projects involved in the maintenance of these 2 things they will take on a more wholeistic view of US rather than give the impression to you and to others that its just from a national standpoint. Unless you are implying that the smaller topics of the United States are less important than the large national topics and would not be of interest to anyone who views Portal:United States or participates in the collaboration. To which I would wholeheartedly state that I do not agree. --Kumioko (talk) 18:26, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
- I think that everyone can make their own assessment regarding the nature of WikiProject United States from the above thread. Racepacket (talk) 16:02, 26 January 2011 (UTC)

Intercounty Connector
As you know the ICC has been controversial for about 30 years and finally opened at the end of February. The ICC played a prominent role in a number of campaigns for Governor as well as for County Council. As a result the Wikipedia article grew and was split into three articles, Maryland Route 200, History of Maryland Route 200, and Opposition to Maryland Route 200. I nominated the history article for GA, and in turn someone from the US Roads WikiProject nominated the opposition article for deletion. I believe that mature editors with an interest in Maryland politics and history should get involved with the coverage of the ICC, its history and surrounding controvery. More objective eyes are needed. Thanks, Racepacket (talk) 16:18, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
- I've responded at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Opposition to Maryland Route 200. Definitely a subject we should be covering, but that's a separate question from what articles this should be in, or how such such article(s)/section(s) should be written. Kingdon (talk) 14:58, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
The article Ocean City Convention Center has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- A search for references found the external link just added to this article. I am pretty sure the roland-e-powell-convention-center is not what is being described in this article. I looked around ococean.com and did not find support for this article as written. Fails WP:N and WP:V
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. JeepdaySock (AKA, Jeepday) 17:14, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Nomination of History of Maryland Route 200 for deletion
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article History of Maryland Route 200 is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted. Racepacket (talk) 18:10, 17 March 2011 (UTC)
Concerning the article on the community of Oxon Hill, Maryland: I don't understand why there are 2 different versions of this article ? If I type "Oxon Hill" in Wikipedia's search box, it brings up a very long version. But when I type "Oxon Hill-Glassmanor" or conversely if I go to the main "Prince Georges County" article and click at the bottom on the link to names of communities in P.G.C., then a much shorter version of the "Oxon Hill" article appears. When I try to add the additional text into the shorter version and click "save", the system will not "save it". This is frustrating. Can someone fix this glitch ? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.255.145.198 (talk) 19:59, 1 June 2011 (UTC)
GLAM Wiki events on July 22-23 in Baltimore's Mount Vernon Neighborhood
Please join us next weekend for GLAM Baltimore 2011 --- a series of two events organized by Baltimore Heritage on July 22-23 to build relationships between cultural heritage organizations, archives and museums and the Wikipedian community in Baltimore and Maryland. We'll start on Friday, July 22 with a happy hour at the Midtown Yacht Club in Baltimore's historic Mount Vernon neighborhoods. On the morning of Saturday, July 23, we'll meet at the Walters Art Museum for an introduction to GLAM Wiki partnerships around the country and break out into smaller groups to develop new ideas for projects we'd like to work on here in Baltimore.
You can sign up and find additional details on our meetup page or on the Baltimore Heritage website where you can also use a form to RSVP for the July 22 Happy Hour or the July 23 GLAM Wiki partnerships meeting. I hope you can join us! --Eli.pousson (talk) 18:04, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
University of Maryland institution staffer wants to participate in Wikipedia
I spotted new User:UMDSpecColl making spam-like edits to Maryland related articles so I welcomed the user and linked the spam page. The user seems to be interested in participating in a larger way so I thought I'd bring this discussion to members' attention. This could be an opportunity to work with a state library special collection in a very positive way for both the pedia and the collection. BusterD (talk) 21:23, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Suggestion for WikiProject United States to support WikiProject Maryland
It was recently suggested that this project be included in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States. After reviewing the project it appears that there have been some recent discussions on the talk page and some updates to the main project page. Before any action is taken I want to ensure that the members of the project concur with this action. I will contact each of the active members of the project and ask them to comment as well. Please feel free to contact me if there are any comments or questions. --Kumioko (talk) 01:03, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
- So this involves changing {{WikiProject Maryland}} to {{WikiProject United States}}? The latter strikes me as a bit cluttered (since it has both the state and US text and images), but I'm not sure that's a big deal one way or the other. What else? I'm not really sure what the consequences of saying "yes" or "no" are. Kingdon (talk) 00:58, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- Good Questions. First let me say that the project page with members stay basically as they are with the members able to dictate how things happen, scope of the project, etc. Its not going to be absorbed or dissolved in any way and the scope won't change unless the members want it too. The only change would be that the WikiProject banner would be replaced with the WPUS banner with WikiProject Arizona (and any other supported projects) embedded within it. You can take a look at Category talk:Visitor attractions in South Carolina to see an example. All the projects use a standard group of parameters (Needs infobox, image, attention, etc) it also reduces the number of banners cluttering up the talk page of the articles. All the projects use the same article classes (If the project doesn't want to though thats ok too but the rest do and I would like to try and keep it as standard as possible).
- How it will be supported can depend on what the members of the project want but typically WPUS is a bigger project with a lot more members, it has a newsletter, a monthly collaboration, multiple bots that run actively through the articles for various things (as can be seen on the members page) with more being setup as we go along. This means that it will be seen by a lot of people in a lot of ways. Up till now we have mostly been concentrating on building up the project but soon we are going to be starting to do some drives to build up articles, create new ones, etc. I hope this helps. --Kumioko (talk) 01:09, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
I've been using the WikiProject Maryland pages to identify articles about Maryland and Baltimore in need of evaluation and improvement. Will I still be able to do that? Folklore1 (talk) 15:02, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, the project page and structure is going to stay the same. --Kumioko (talk) 15:35, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
I've been asked to give my input so here it is. I've been semi-active on Wikipedia for the past few years so I haven't been working on this project lately like I have in the past. Given that, I'm fine with WPUS giving WPMD some support just as long as it doesn't put up any resistance if WPMD wishes to work independantly again in the future.-Jeff (talk) 19:30, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
- No problem, although I would request that they give it some time and not turn in 2 weeks and say they changed their mind. It is a fair bit of effort and edits to include a project in the support list. --Kumioko (talk) 19:34, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
- What about the Baltimore task force? Can the Baltimore task force be added to the WPUS banner along with the Maryland WikiProject? Baltimore task force is part of WikiProject Maryland and has never been part of WikiProject United States. Should it be added to the WPUS banner? JJ98 (Talk / Contributions) 23:11, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
- Yes we can do that as well but we should contact that project and see if they are interested. Is that project active? I will leave a note on their project page and then contact the members of it. --Kumioko (talk) 00:30, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
- I think it should stay as is. The name "WikiProject Maryland" makes us unique among all the other US WikiProjects. I don't know how inactive the "membership" is, but I think that merging the name (even if only the name) would be counter-productive to enticing the current membership to do more, as well as "recruiting" new members. I kinda like having a userbox identifying myself as part of a specific state WikiProject. If nothing else changes but the name, what is the purpose of the change? Maybe I'm misunderstanding what is proposed...--It's me...Sallicio! 09:41, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
- Although its fine with me if Maryland wants to stay on their own given your comments I feel like I need to clarify a couple things. The project isn't losing its anme or being disolved. The only thing that would happen would be for the WikiProject Maryland template to be replaced with the WPUS template/Maryland as can be seen here with District of Columbia. This will not only reduce the number of banners on the articles talk page but allow the article to be tracked by both projects and to allow all the supported projects to utilize the full list of parameters in the WikiProject United States template. Additionally there are several bots that run off the United States template and this allows the supported projects articles to be run through as well. The WikiProject itself is not going away and will retain its name. The Userbox is also going to remain as will any project related stub templates and categories (I will in fact add several categories). Another benfit of support is this. Currently there are 200+ projects in various states of activity relating to United States. Only about 25% are very active. Some are completely defunt like WikiProject US States, WikiProject politicians and several of the lower level city and locality projects. There are a lot of editors who edit articles about these topics but almost no activity in many cases from the projects themselves. Many of these editors are members of multiple related projects. This is a movement to align any US related projects (at least those who wish too) into a core group of projects that work together and collaborate on US related topics using a central WikiProject template with standard parameters, newsletter, A Monthly collaboration process, a somewhat standard list of automated tasks (Popular pages, new articles, article alerts, featured content, etc) which many do not currently use. I am also planning on doing some recruiting for all the supported projects, will be working on some content drives in the future and various other things like some additional bots. I hope this helps.--Kumioko (talk) 13:53, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
- Since this discussion has been open for 15 days I would like to see if there are any other comments out there. So far it seems like we have a couple that are ok with it and a couple that aren't so sure. Just to clarify the user box, project page and category structure are staying pretty much the same. In fact I will be adding additional categories to track some things that aren't currently being monitored by the project and I will be adding additional articles and other content to the project. --Kumioko (talk) 20:31, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

A couple suggestions for the project
Since there still appears to be some hesitancy in Maryland being supported by WikiProject United States I'll leave these suggestions here if anyone wants to take them for action.
- I found quite a bit of content containing Maryland, MD, Md or Baltimore that isn't tagged for the project yet. I created a page for that here. There are quite a few redirects but there are a lot of articles as well. There may be a few false positives but I haven't scrubbed it much yet although I did remove a few instances of things like Lord Baltimore.
- Currently the Baltimore task force doesn't independently classify or rank importance for articles and I suggest adding that ability.
- I also suggest adding the ability for Baltimore articles to independently track things like needing Geo-coordinates, images etc. This will allow editors interested in that topic area to more easily focus there efforts.
- The WikiProject Maryland template does not support needs references or Infoboxes and I recommend that be added as well.
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments or need help with implementing these items if desired. --Kumioko (talk) 23:22, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
- Seeing as the discussion resulted in no consensus, it looks like we'll be maintaining the status quo. Kumioko, thanks for your suggestions. Hopefully someone more active than myself can come along and implement them.-Jeff (talk) 15:44, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

For west state baseball fans, and Orioles fans
A proposal has been made to delete all Pittsburgh Pirates rivalry articles save Phillies-Pirates. I am posting this for Maryland as well being that MLB territory as well the Designated Market Area extends into Western and almost Central Maryland. There is some discussion on whether Baltimore-Pittsburgh qualifies as a baseball rivalry based mainly on their two 7 game world series in the 1970's. If you have viewpoints on whether to merge/keep/delete and facts/citations to justify it please comment here. Thanks for your participation. Hholt01 (talk) 08:58, 18 August 2011 (UTC)

Pollution in Luke, Maryland?
Hi,
I have made numerous edits to the Luke, Maryland article pointing out it's listed by the Federal Govt. as one of the biggest sources of mercury pollution in the state. It has huge emissions, more than a pound a day some years. There are NUMEROUS sources for this. Basically it looks like someone from the paper mill is removing these edits not becuase they are disallowed but because they are true and put the company in a very bad light.
This should be stopped. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.61.134.110 (talk) 03:36, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
- Text like this version makes sense to me. Something like this however, isn't really suitable, at least not in this form. First of all, the sources need to be cited, per WP:RS. Something like "verify this by searching Maryland State Government records" is not a citation. Secondly, this version of the text is not written according to WP:NPOV. The right style for wikipedia is just to give the facts, and leave out the editorializing (in either direction; we want to focus on the facts, not on spinning to either emphasize or downplay the risks). Thanks for contributing to wikipedia, and thanks for being willing to bring up this topic here so we can advise on how to cover this topic. For more on how to contribute to wikipedia, see WP:WELCOME. Baltimore Assembly
I am currently searching the contents of the old GM assembly plant, that has since closed down. This was a very frustrating topic to research because it seems there is scarce info on it. Anyway, there is currently a GM plant in operation in Maryland, but it is in Whitemarsh, not Baltimore City. Every search that I did kept leading me to this Whitemarsh plants information and website. I was quite excited when I actually did find this article, but a few details that I still need are not included on this site such as the actual street address of the plant, although I do know it was on Broening Hwy., I think actually in Dundalk(which is still Baltimore though)earlier I was thinking that it was infact downtown in the city. An (although old and very out of date)old phone number for this building would also be great! I remember the extensions but nothing else, except maybe 410!Ha Ha, my memory isn't always the greatest! Anyway, I would love to see some more info on Baltimore Assembly, and maybe even a note on some of the employees or names of people in charge. I am looking forward to checking back on this site, and reading more into WikiProject Maryland! Good Luck to all!! ---Anna Medina — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.195.190.156 (talk) 19:14, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
- For any who may wish to incorporate it into Baltimore Assembly, the address is given as 2122 Broening Highway in Baltimore, Maryland according to http://www.epa.gov/reg3wcmd/ca/md/webpages/mdd003091972.html. Aside from EPA cleanup info, other background info is there which may be useful. The http://start.cortera.com/company/research/k3p5qxj3p/gmbaltimore-assembly/ site gives the ZIP code as 21224-6602. The (former) phone number was 410-631-2000, according to http://www.cylex-usa.com/company/general-motors-corporation---general-motors-truck-group-baltimore-assembly-plant-7627886.html and http://www.macraesbluebook.com/search/company.cfm?company=314011. —ADavidB 09:07, 12 January 2012 (UTC)
WikiWomen's History Month
Hi everyone. March is Women's History Month and I'm hoping a few folks here at WP:Maryland will have interest in putting on events (on and off wiki) related to women's roles in Maryland's history, society and culture. We've created an event page on English Wikipedia (please translate!) and I hope you'll find the inspiration to participate. These events can take place off wiki, like edit-a-thons, or on wiki, such as themes and translations. Please visit the page here: WikiWomen's History Month. Thanks for your consideration and I look forward to seeing events take place! SarahStierch (talk) 00:24, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Maryland Route 139 move to Charles Street (Baltimore)
There is a discussion going on at Talk:Maryland Route 139 about moving Maryland Route 139 to Charles Street (Baltimore). I am crossposting to WP:USRD and WP:USST since this could be an interdisciplinary article.
Government of Maryland merger proposal now moot?
The Government of Maryland article has two tags proposing mergers, dated August 2009.
{{mergeto|Maryland Court of Appeals|discuss=Talk:Maryland Court of Appeals#Merger proposal|date=August 2009}}
{{mergeto|Maryland Court of Special Appeals|discuss=Talk:Maryland Court of Special Appeals#Merger proposal|date=August 2009}}
I cannot find any discussion of those two proposals, at Talk:Government of Maryland or on the Talk:Maryland Court of Appeals page. I am not sure of the procedure, but can we find these proposals to be obsolete and moot, and then remove them? Please comment on the Talk:Government of Maryland page. --DThomsen8 (talk) 01:26, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

census updates on population for most of the cities in maryland
most of the numbers reflect the 2000 census, they really need to be updated if anyone have an inkling.

Baltimore St. Patrick's Day beating
Hi, guys!
There has been a beating at St. Patrick's Day in Baltimore, and there's press coverage:
- Kuebler, Brian. "Viral video suspect gets bail reduced; police looking for three others." ABC 2. April 16, 2002.
- Fenton, Justin. "$1 million bond set for man charged in videotaped beating." The Baltimore Sun. April 14, 2012.
- Fenton, Justin. "Internet shock video helps Baltimore police find victim, possible suspect." The Baltimore Sun. April 4, 2012.
- Fenton, Justin. "California blogger on Parsons arrest: I feel bad for him." The Baltimore Sun. Apirl 16, 2012.
Do you think it would qualify for an article yet? Or should I try to find more sources? WhisperToMe (talk) 22:29, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
Luke Maryland Pollution being under-emphasized.
It seems someone is altering the Luke, Maryland article to downplay the really huge amount of pollution in that town caused by the paper mill. Not only does the town stink to high heaven, (well, that could be considered original research) but the State of Maryland has identified it as huge "point source" of mercury. The place is poisoned, and though Wikipedia is not supposed to be political there is no question at all that it's appropriate to report it as there are plenty of soruces for it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.61.141.90 (talk) 20:32, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- You mentioned plenty of sources; if they're reliable, you're welcome to list them. The Luke, Maryland article already includes a sentence/paragraph on mercury pollution from its paper plant, backed up by a 2008 Baltimore Sun article. —ADavidB 06:26, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Luke Maryland Mercury Pollution
I think there should be more emphasis on the terrible mercury pollution from the paper mill in Luke Maryland.
This paper mill is putting out something like 250 pounds of mercury a year.
It is upstream from Washington DC and so pollutes all the lower Potomac, meaning a huge tidal area in the lower Chesapeake.
I can go looking for references on this, will there be a problem with any of this with the right references? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.61.139.116 (talk) 21:48, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

Popular pages tool update
As of January, the popular pages tool has moved from the Toolserver to Wikimedia Tool Labs. The code has changed significantly from the Toolserver version, but users should notice few differences. Please take a moment to look over your project's list for any anomalies, such as pages that you expect to see that are missing or pages that seem to have more views than expected. Note that unlike other tools, this tool aggregates all views from redirects, which means it will typically have higher numbers. (For January 2014 specifically, 35 hours of data is missing from the WMF data, which was approximated from other dates. For most articles, this should yield a more accurate number. However, a few articles, like ones featured on the Main Page, may be off).
Web tools, to replace the ones at tools:~alexz/pop, will become available over the next few weeks at toollabs:popularpages. All of the historical data (back to July 2009 for some projects) has been copied over. The tool to view historical data is currently partially available (assessment data and a few projects may not be available at the moment). The tool to add new projects to the bot's list is also available now (editing the configuration of current projects coming soon). Unlike the previous tool, all changes will be effective immediately. OAuth is used to authenticate users, allowing only regular users to make changes to prevent abuse. A visible history of configuration additions and changes is coming soon. Once tools become fully available, their toolserver versions will redirect to Labs.
If you have any questions, want to report any bugs, or there are any features you would like to see that aren't currently available on the Toolserver tools, see the updated FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Mr.Z-bot (talk) (for Mr.Z-man) 05:15, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
Split History of Frederick City into its own article
I've proposed to split the History section of Frederick, Maryland into its own article, but haven't received any feedback from any other parts of the community on this proposal. If anyone here would like to drop into the discussion with some support or some issues, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks! Zell Faze (talk) 19:32, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
Template:Howard Count, Maryland
I've added Template:Merge to to Template:Howard Count, Maryland suggesting the content be merged into to Template:Howard County, Maryland. Just the fact that it had to be named with typo is a good argument to start with. -- Pemilligan (talk) 21:13, 27 April 2014 (UTC)
- This seems to be a problem with several counties: the same situation pertains for Montgomery County. Not sure which way to go with these in merging, though. Mangoe (talk) 23:27, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
- I don't suppose anyone would mind putting together a list here of templates with similar problems. It would make it a lot easier to discuss what to do with them all. Zell Faze (talk) 19:25, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
I found these templates in Category:Maryland county navigational boxes but I haven't examined all of them closely to see how much duplication there might be:
- Template:Howard County, Maryland (topics navbox)
- Template:Howard County, Maryland
- Template:Montgomery County, Maryland
- Template:Montgomery County, Maryland (topics navbox)
- Template:Prince George's County
- Template:Prince George's County, Maryland
-- Pemilligan (talk) 02:34, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
- I went ahead and moved Template:Howard Count, Maryland to Template:Howard County, Maryland (topics navbox) so that the name conflict was resolved in a somewhat better way. Personally I think that the templates cover distinct sets of topics and should not be merged. The unparenthesised templates cover the various communities and municipalities in each county. The parenthesised templates cover things like the administration, culture, and other notable features of the county itself. I see no reason to merge them. I wouldn't want Template:Howard County, Maryland (topics navbox) included in the bottom of an article about a small rural town in Howard County, but I would want Template:Howard County, Maryland included. Likewise on an article about the government of Howard County I would probably prefer Template:Howard County, Maryland (topics navbox) to Template:Howard County, Maryland. The main article on the county, and perhaps its capital should include both. A few other articles might warrant both as well. Zell Faze (talk) 17:46, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
Seems like a good solution. Thanks. -- Pemilligan (talk) 03:37, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
- Also I wouldn't mind moving Template:Prince George's County to Template:Prince George's County, Maryland (topics navbox) just to make everything the same. Zell Faze (talk) 17:48, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Suggestion
Hello all! I was curious if anyone else thought it might be a good idea to make a (nonbinding) guideline on how all the individual US state WikiProjects should organize themselves, to help standardize them. I originally put this suggestion in the WikiProject United States talk page, so feel free to look there if you're interested. It's pretty empty though; basically all they said was to see what each of the individual projects thought about it. Please tell me if you have any concerns with this idea; hopefully we can find a way for everyone to love it! Also, I'm new at making proposals, so please forgive me if I do anything silly. :) Hope that you like this idea! JonathanHopeThisIsUnique (talk) 04:56, 3 August 2015 (UTC)

mht dead links
Here is a list of dead Maryland Historical Trust urls. I see that this has happened before.
I propose a different solution. I propose to create a template that takes one parameter and then replace the dead urls with this template using an AWB script that functions much like to the currently running bot task that is doing a similar replacement for NRHP urls. See this discussion for more on that.
Here is an example of the replacement to be made:
- this url is broken:
- it can be fixed by removing the
www.
: - The important detail is
NRDetail.aspx?HDID=107
so the rest of the query string can be removed: - Notice that when you click that link, the host redirects to this url:
I propose to create a template {{MHT url}}
that will take one parameter:
{{MHT url|id=107}}
The template will then provide the http://mht.maryland.gov/nr/NRDetail.aspx?NRID=
domain and path to complete the url. Should MHT choose to tweak their urls in future (they've done it in the past, no reason to expect that they won't in the future) it is hoped that a simple fix to this template's core will repair the few hundred links extant in this project's articles.
Shall I proceed?
—Trappist the monk (talk) 18:25, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
- Is this an accurate TLDR?: You're proposing to create a template that will fix a laundry list of broken links and the same template should work in the future if/when the MD Historical Trust tweaks their links again? Did I understand correctly? Because, IMHO, that sounds lovely. Is there a reason people might be opposed? Am I missing something? Permstrump (talk) 23:13, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
- The template isn't magic. If MHT changes their links, then someone here will have to tweak the template; but that should be easier than tweaking several hundred individual external links.
- —Trappist the monk (talk) 01:25, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
- It's a good idea. Over in lighthouse we did the same thing to deal with the Coast Guard rearranging things. Mangoe (talk) 03:17, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
I have created {{MHT url}}
that takes two parameters:
|id=
– required; this is the value assigned to the queryHDID
orNRID
in the source's url|title=
– a text label; when present, the template creates a properly formatted external wikilink:[url title]
Examples:
{{MHT url|id=107}}
{{MHT url|id=107|title=Washington Monument}}
—Trappist the monk (talk) 13:21, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
- Can you make it produce the whole citation? Mangoe (talk) 14:20, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
- What whole citation?

Frederick Task Force
Greetings,
I am from the Frederick Pennsylvania Line Railroad Museum. I am not new to Wikipedia (see my main account User:Zellfaze, but I am being paid for the work that I am doing here today.
I am looking to create a Frederick County Task Force. I am planning to run an edit-a-thon here in Frederick in the next month or so and will be using that as a method of recruiting people for the task force. I am also pretty sure that @Risk Engineer: would be willing to join the task force as well (Risk Engineer, would you be willing to drop into this discussion?). I'd also be joining the task force in a non-paid capacity (as I live in Frederick and like to work on articles about this city/county).
Would anyone have an issue with me setting up the infrastructure for this task force? Fpl-dmatzrott (talk) 15:31, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

Article assessment?
At first I placed this request on the main talk page, but then I saw that there was a WIkiProject Maryland Assessment page and thought I should post there but then I realized that that section seems to have gone stale or doesn't maybe actually update. SO...
Nathaniel G. S. Hart, an article I created, received a re-assessment from another WikiProject and, because of technical issues, they also changed the assessments for all the other Projects (see Talk:Nathaniel G. S. Hart#Suggestions for Improvements). Anyway, so now the article needs to be re-assessed. If someone from this Project would re-assess it I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 05:55, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
- To editor Shearonink: You're good! Honestly, you can do either: I've added all pages within the project to my watchlist. I've been in the process of trying to revive this WikiProject, part of which has involved going through the old unaddressed assessment and reassessment requests. On that note, I've just restored Nathaniel G. S. Hart to a B class rating per our quality assessment standards. Your article is very well written, and well referenced: You obviously put a lot of effort into researching and writing it. Superb job! ~ Erick Shepherd • (Talk) • 12:24, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Free speech at the Inner Harbor
I just left a comment at Talk:Inner Harbor#Freedom of speech about NPOV issues in Inner Harbor#Free speech. Aside from that section probably needing to be entirely rewritten, I think it belongs lower in the article for balance, but I'm not really sure where the best place to move it is, so I'm looking for input from other editors as not many editors are watching that article. On a related note, does anyone else find it odd that the Inner Harbor article falls within the scope of WP:WikiProject Freedom of Speech or is it just me? —PermStrump(talk) 19:17, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
Image request in Baltimore
I'm working on the article for the Baltimore railroad strike of 1877. I would be very grateful if someone who lives in the area could get a picture of the historical marker located here and upload it to commons for use on the article. I would be happy to do it myself, but unfortunately I'm a day's drive away. TimothyJosephWood 21:03, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
- I'm almost certain that the text of the marker is under copyright of either the state or the MHT. Mangoe (talk) 21:59, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
- Does anyone know how we can find out if it's under copyright? —PermStrump(talk) 07:09, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
- Permstrump, I emailed a representative from the Maryland Historical Trust yesterday evening, but they're out of the office until next week. I also posted on copyright questions and the sole comment seems to be against.
- Doing my own bit of digging it looks like freedom of panorama does include certain memorials that are commissioned or produced by the US government, but I've not found anything in the context of a state government, of which the MHT is a part.
- Pinging @Jmabel: and @Ww2censor: since they've been helpful previously on copyright issues. TimothyJosephWood 12:15, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
- Does anyone know how we can find out if it's under copyright? —PermStrump(talk) 07:09, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
- I saw this yesterday and wondered about it. My thoughts are that, being a 3D object, there is some artistic merit in the design of the marker, so copyright would belong to the designer who is most likely the state of Maryland. However, Maryland is not one of the states whose work is in the public domain, so there is no clarity there. Obviously the image you linked to is copyright to the photographer who took it and I don't see any obvious copyright permission there, so someone may have to take a new photo. I have two questions for you. Was the marker erected pre-1978 without a copyright notice thereby placing it a in the public domain? What benefit is there to the reader to see an image of this marker in the first place when its details are easily made in prose stating the essence of the text if though necessary and the fact the marker exists? You could just avoid the problem entirely. I hate to be unclear so I 'm on the fence but veering towards it being copyright. Good luck. ww2censor (talk) 13:13, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
- ww2censor, looks like it was placed in 2013. I also note however that the Historical Marker Project site doesn't seem to have any qualms about soliciting individuals to take and upload pictures.
- As to the benefit to the reader, I think part of the challenge of these types of articles is linking it to present day relevance, something I haven't gotten too deep into yet in this particular case (I'm still very much in the meat of the event itself). This is the visceral purpose of historical marker projects: to provide a tangible reminder that the ground under your feet was the site of a major significant event. TimothyJosephWood 13:24, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
- What the Historical Marker Project policy is does not concern us; what matters is the copyright status of the marker which, of course, anyone can photograph. While an image would be good, the present day relevance can be explained easily in prose and so avoid any problem. Maybe someone else has some ideas. ww2censor (talk) 13:31, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
- I was just thinking it might be a clue that a farily large site filled with nothing but images of markers hasn't been shut down, there might be some solid legal reason why they aren't in systemic violation of copyright. TimothyJosephWood 13:50, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
- Historical Marker Project is almost certainly fair use, but Commons doesn't accept fair-use justifications, so such an image of a copyrighted marker would not be welcome there. It might be OK within en-wiki by using Template:Non-free use rationale. - Jmabel | Talk 15:08, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

Timothyjosephwood, does it matter if the small print is legible or would it still illustrate whatever you had in mind as long as "Great Railroad Strike of 1877" at the top is clearly legible? Because I could stand further back and take a picture that gives more context to the marker's surroundings, that way it's not just a picture of the marker alone and doesn't include the entire text. If the actual content of what's written is the important part, either it could be paraphrased in the body or it might meet the criteria of the non-free use rationale, and when the person you wrote to gets back to town, presumably they'll be happy submit whatever's needed to allow WP to use it. —PermStrump(talk) 17:10, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
- That might work. I figured the person who reads the article has a fairly good chance of being from Baltimore, and the objective is more or less to anchor what they just read to "that spot you drive by twice a week but didn't think much about". TimothyJosephWood 17:13, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

← That's exactly what I've been thinking. :) —PermStrump(talk) 17:17, 2 September 2016 (UTC)- Timothyjosephwood should have told me it was Baltimore Comic-Con this weekend. The marker is right next to the convention center and I felt out of place in my running clothes. :-P I took some pictures yesterday and was about to upload one to commons, but I've never uploaded anything there before, so I wanted to double check with someone before uploading it first to be safe. I explained the situation to someone in the IRC, that in the picture I took the smaller text isn't legible and there are other things in the picture besides the marker. They said to go through Commons:OTRS#If you are NOT the copyright holder to be safe because "arguably it is a 3D work" although they said it's a stretch to call it 3D art. I guess that's what Jmabel and Ww2censor said too, but I misunderstood and thought we were just talking about the actual text being copyrighted. - Timothyjosephwood I wasn't being serious that you should have warned me about comic-con. I was just surprised when I got there and was surrounded by superheroes. Good news everyone. Here's the response from the Maryland Historical Trust:
Our file photos are public record and we hold no copyright. We do request credit for use of photos from our files or our website, such as "photo courtesy of the Maryland Historial Trust." We also hold no copyright over other's images of the roadside historical markers.
So I suppose the question is now, given that Permstrump has photos, and...well...given that we can pretty much take whatever photo we want, how do we translate this e-mail into a justification for commons? TimothyJosephWood 22:00, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
- Going ahead and repinging @Ww2censor:, since, if we can figure this out, it means the entire archive of the MHT is available for use on Maryland articles. TimothyJosephWood 12:06, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
- Based on their response it seem that the template {{attribution|Maryland Historial Trust}} will be the appropriate copyright tag. ww2censor (talk) 15:20, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
- Was I supposed to put the attribution template on the images I just uploaded to commons (image 1, image 2)? I was planning to, but thought there would be a prompt or obvious place to put it and I realized after I had uploaded them that I never put the template anywhere. —PermStrump(talk) 22:32, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
- FYI I asked the same question at Commons:Help desk#Where to add attribution template? Timothyjosephwood, I won't be offended if you don't use one of my pictures, but I figured I'd upload them since I took them. —PermStrump(talk) 23:00, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

US 50,000 Challenge invite
Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject United States/The 50,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more states than they might otherwise work on. If there's the interest I will start 1000 State Challenges like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of states regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for the US and your specialist/home state like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every state, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any state sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thankyou.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:16, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
2016 Community Wishlist Survey Proposal to Revive Popular Pages
Greetings WikiProject Maryland/Archive 6 Members!
This is a one-time-only message to inform you about a technical proposal to revive your Popular Pages list in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:
If the above proposal gets in the Top 10 based on the votes, there is a high likelihood of this bot being restored so your project will again see monthly updates of popular pages.
Further, there are over 260 proposals in all to review and vote for, across many aspects of wikis.
Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.

Hi my name is Beth and I like my father have lived here all of my life. I read the article concerning Phoenix, MD and I noticed something that I believe is incorrect. To my knowledge there is no airport, not a public one anyway. There is an old Nike site in Phoenix that left many surrounding properties well water undrinkable. Water from wells on Paper Mill Rd was piped to those houses including those on Sunnybrook Rd sometime in the 1990s. The Greater Jacksonville Association silenced the fire stations emergency siren some time in the late 1980s or early 1990s, this was a result of new resident's complaints. The complaints were made after they knowingly purchased a home directly behind a working fire station and before reliable communication i.e. cell phones, etc. Other than that it looks good. The actual original town of Phoenix is located on the NCR Trail where it crosses Phoenix Road almost across from the Hunt Valley Golf Course.Betha7123 (talk) 07:10, 12 February 2017 (UTC)Beth ABetha7123 (talk) 07:10, 12 February 2017 (UTC)

We – Community Tech – are happy to announce that the Popular pages bot is back up-and-running (after a one year hiatus)! You're receiving this message because your WikiProject or task force is signed up to receive the popular pages report. Every month, Community Tech bot will post at Wikipedia:WikiProject Maryland/Archive 6/Popular pages with a list of the most-viewed pages over the previous month that are within the scope of WikiProject Maryland.
We've made some enhancements to the original report. Here's what's new:
- The pageview data includes both desktop and mobile data.
- The report will include a link to the pageviews tool for each article, to dig deeper into any surprises or anomalies.
- The report will include the total pageviews for the entire project (including redirects).

Help with article for former Maryland lawmaker
Hi there, I'm here to see if there are any editors who could help expanding and updating the article for Stewart W. Bainum Jr. As many interested in Maryland might know, Mr. Bainum is a former state lawmaker in the Maryland House of Delegates and Maryland Senate, and has held leadership positions with Choice Hotels and HCR Manor Care, among other businesses. For more details and my COI disclosure, see this edit request. Overall, my draft seeks to improve the structure of the Stewart W. Bainum Jr. article, fix inaccuracies throughout, and highlight the details of Mr. Bainum's business and political careers. In particular, from news clippings provided by Mr. Bainum and from research on Lexis Nexis and HighBeam, I've been able to find a lot of older sources that provide information about his political career and development of the company that became Choice Hotels.
The new draft is saved in my user space here: User:16912_Rhiannon/Stewart_W._Bainum_Jr
You can see the changes vs. the current article's wording in a diff here.
Let me know if you have any feedback or questions about the new draft and specific changes made. Thanks in advance, 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 17:59, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

Draft article for David Trone
On behalf of David Trone and Hickman Analytics, I have submitted a draft article about this American businessman as part of my work at Beutler Ink. Given my conflict of interest, I will not publish the article to the main space and ask independent editors to review this draft for accuracy, neutrality, and verifiability. Is there a WikiProject Maryland participant who will help move the draft into the main space? Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 14:56, 17 March 2017 (UTC)

Edit request to update article
Hello, again! I have submitted an edit request to update the Wikipedia article for David Trone, who resides in Maryland. I've proposed a few updates to the article's "Personal life" section, and suggested a few links for "Further reading" and/or "External links" sections. The proposed additions (which I've outlined here) are not very controversial, in my opinion, but I can't edit the article directly because of my COI and I'm looking for a neutral volunteer who can review the proposed text/links and update the article accordingly. Is a WikiProject Maryland participant willing to help? Inkian Jason (talk) 20:16, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hello! An editor has assisted with the first 2 requests outlined here, but there's one part left (#3) and the reviewing person would like more input. Is someone able to take a look at the proposed text, and update the article appropriately? Inkian Jason (talk) 16:42, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
- The edit request has been answered, so I am marking this section as resolved. Thanks! Inkian Jason (talk) 17:11, 1 August 2017 (UTC)

Requests for edits on the Baltimore Choral Arts Society Page
Hello! I would like to request that an editor update the Baltimore Choral Arts Society Wikipedia page. The institution is currently in its 52nd season, and Tom Hall's new official title is Music Director Emeritus. Lastly, Music Director Anthony Blake Clark's biography should be updated, and that information can be found on http://www.baltimorechoralarts.org/mod/staff/59 . I cannot make these edits because there is a conflict of interest, and I am new and inexperienced to Wikipedia editing, so I apologize if I am doing this incorrectly! Please let me know if there are any other necessary steps I need to fulfill to have this request reviewed.
Thank you!

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.
If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.
If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.
Thank you. — The Transhumanist 07:47, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

Montgomery County Task Force
There should be a Montgomery County Task Force.
More than 1 million people live in Montgomery County, and the articles that read about Bethesda, Rockville, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring, etc are all of low quality in my opinion.
A Task Force should be formed to improve the breadth and depth of these articles. Montgomery County is more than just a DC Suburb and more most be done on Wikipedia to improve the coverage. SeanSmith81 (talk) 15:50, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

Seeking precise location of "Kenwood, Maryland"
I'm trying to pinpoint the locale of "Kenwood, Maryland", as in the home and death place of cartoonist H. M. Talburt. Googling suggests it may be a neighborhood of Bethesda and/or Chevy Chase, MD. [1], [2]. Are there two distinct locations, or one on a boundary region, what is the most definitive administrative body (city/county) of each? Many thanks, --Animalparty! (talk) 20:04, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
- When I search for Kenwood, MD, I get a specific location labeled "Kenwood"; moreover, web searching yields a blog entry (not exactly a WP:RS) that indicates an address on Kennedy Drive and that he was married to a woman named frances; finally, searching public records yields a Frances Talburt at 6409 Kennedy Drive in Chevy Chase, MD. So, there is indirect evidence that corroborate the Kenwood neighborhood of Chevy Chase, Maryland that was mentioned in the NYT obit as the location where he was residing when he died. — soupvector (talk) 17:03, 28 March 2019 (UTC)

Show Washington on map of Germantown, Maryland
I have just added the following to Talk: Germantown, Maryland:
- Considering this sentence
- Germantown is located approximately 25–30 miles (40–48 km) outside the U.S. capital of Washington, D.C. and is an important part of the Washington metropolitan area.
- I think it would be valuable to add Washington, DC to the maps, at least to Location of Germantown in Montgomery County and the U.S. state of Maryland.
That article is not very active, so I am adding this notice to the Discussion sections of WikiProjects Maryland (which is currently rated semi-active) and Cities.
PS: I saw a mention of a list of articles to fix, supposedly on the Project Page, but there is no such list there. Semi-active indeed!

Laureate Ed. request for assistance
Hello editors, I'm Patrice, an employee of Laureate Education and representative on Wikipedia. I have recently learned more about the rules and guidelines of the site for editors like me who have a "paid conflict of interest" or "COI". Having mistakenly edited the article myself in the past, I now understand why I must not do so. I'm working to follow the rules strictly, now that I understand them better, and seeking the community's assistance with suggested improvements to the page going forward. In addition to the Talk discussion page, I wondered if this WikiProject would be a good place to collaborate with interested editors? I noticed other institutions have done the same and my post from January remains unanswered. If this is the appropriate process to follow and any editors are interested, would a volunteer be willing to review my post and make a few updates to the infobox on my behalf? Thanks for any help or feedback, in advance! PMV1111 (talk) 07:48, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

I have submitted a draft Nolands Ferry but it didn't fly. I followed the suggestion to put the new information in "Nolands Ferry I Archeological Site". Since that name includes "Archeological Site", it may be too narrow. How to fix that?

2) Or, can the existing name be changed to perhaps "Nolands Ferry & Archeological Site"?

Looking for help with request for Stewart Bainum Jr. article
Hi all, I'm looking for help to review and make an update to the article for Maryland businessman, Stewart W. Bainum Jr.. As you might be aware, Mr. Bainum has received a lot of media coverage over the last year for his efforts to try and buy The Baltimore Sun and its parent company, and then his work to establish local news site The Baltimore Banner. His article is missing a lot of this information, so I've put together a draft of this information for editors to consider adding to the page. My full request and draft is here on the Talk page.
So far, one editor has reviewed and given positive feedback. I'd love to get some additional eyes on it and help making the edits, if it's appropriate. For transparency, the reason I'm making the request is that I have a financial conflict of interest, as Mr. Bainum is my client and I am here on his behalf. User script to detect unreliable sources
I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.
