- Peter Foldes' Hunger wins the Special Jury Prize.[3]
- The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat, a sequel to Ralph Bakshi's Fritz the Cat, becomes the first animated film to be entered at the Cannes Film Festival, but wins no awards.[4] The film is later officially released on 26 June, but flops. Only later will it gain a cult following.[5]
