District 61 is located in Hennepin County, representing south Minneapolis. Berglin first represented the area when it was District 59 after winning the seat in 1980, succeeding fellow DFL member Stephen Keefe, who did not seek re-election. In the last election in 2010, Berglin won with 88 percent of the vote.
