editDevelopment
editOn August 22, 2020, Reginald Hudlin announced at DC FanDome that a live-action Static Shock film is in development.[1] In October 2020, Michael B. Jordan announced that he is working on the film, with the intent of "new universe centered around black superheroes".[2] In December 2020, Walter Hamada described that the project could potentially be developed for HBO Max, as an exclusive film.[3] In March 2021, Randy McKinnon was hired to write the screenplay.[4] The search for a director paused after WarnerMedia merged with Discovery, Inc to become Warner Bros. Discovery.[5]
In April 2023, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn stated that the Static Shock film was planned to be a part of his rebooted DC Universe (DCU).[6]
Release
editAs of April 2021, film was scheduled for Warner Bros. Pictures's 2022–2023 release slate.[7]
