List of diplomatic missions of Angola

This is a list of diplomatic missions of Angola.

  Republic of Angola
  Countries that host Angolan embassies
Countries that host only Angolan consular missions

Angola was the second country after Portugal to open a consulate in Macau following the enclave's take over by the People's Republic of China; Macau, like Angola, has a Portuguese legacy, and most of its diplomatic missions overseas are located in Portuguese-speaking and Sub-Saharan African countries, with a handful located in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

This listing does not include honorary consulates.

History

edit

In October 2018, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Angola (MIREX) closed a number of diplomatic missions, citing budget cuts as the reason. These included the embassies in Athens, Mexico City, and Ottawa; the mission to the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) in Lisbon; and consulates general in Los Angeles, Durban, Faro, and Frankfurt.[1]

Despite these closures, MIREX slowly expanded the Angolan diplomatic network by opening embassies in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2021;[2] in Dakar, Senegal; in 2022;[3] and in Doha, Qatar, in 2023.[4] A consulate-general was also opened in Toronto, Canada, in 2023.[5]

2024 saw the largest expansion of the Angolan diplomatic network. In July, MIREX announced the opening of four embassies, in Canberra, Australia; Dili, East Timor; Jakarta, Indonesia; and Oslo, Norway. On the other hand, MIREX announced the closure of the embassy in Singapore, and the transfer of its ambassador to the embassy in Manila, Philippines, which had heretofore been led by a chargé d'affaires.[6][7]
