Transfers

PJ! You are yet to provide a convincing argument for why the May 2008 transfers should be left off this page. I ask you to consider this: this page is used for encyclopaedic reference. If in say..5 years, you wanted to know the arrivals and departures from the squad for the new season (2008-09), you would look on this page, not the 2007-08 page. May 2008 is not part of the 2008-09 season. Officially, the football season in England runs from 1 July to 31 May the following year, with the month of June being regarded as an off-season period. For the purposes of Wikipedia, though, the off-season period is tagged onto the end of the previous season. Therefore, any events that happen prior to 1 July 2008 go into the 2007-08 season article, while events from 1 July 2008 onwards go into the 2008-09 season article. Why is there..

A citation needed for "Should Manchester United win the Premier League 2008-09 title, they will join Liverpool as the most successful club in terms of English top-flight titles with 18"?

Its true, and can be seen on Man Utd and Liverpool that Man Utd have 17 titles to Liverpools 18. 77.99.186.110 (talk) 17:02, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Please link to the appropriate page or pages. The claim could be refuted by someone who thinks the number of titles is not what it actually is. Please use a good third-party resource. Question

Does it have to be? Several people have agreed that the style used on this page is much better than the style used on other teams' current season pages, as the others include a lot of unnecessary information, and I can assure you, this one will not be conforming to that style. – PeeJay 07:23, 9 August 2008 (UTC)

FA Community Shield

Should Cardiff City and Swansea City use Wales flag?

Cardiff City and Swansea City are located in Wales, but they participate England Football League. I don't think they should use Wales flag as it will mislead both teams participate Welsh League. Just like use France flag for AS Monaco. I think they should use England flag instead of Wales flag.--Yick50907551 (talk) 12:10, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

This is a tricky issue, sure. However, as has been discussed many times over at WT:FOOTY, Cardiff, Swansea and all of the other Welsh clubs who play in the English league should use the Welsh flag as they do not hold any sort of membership with the Football Association, and are full members of the Football Association of Wales. Therefore, they are Welsh clubs playing as guests in the English league. – PeeJay 13:12, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Debut spelling

Debut is spelled both debut and début in the Premier League section. The latter is in the first paragraph, while the former is in the last paragraph. I don't know which is correct for British English, so I'll let someone else decide. Calebrw (talk) 12:46, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

As winners ... qualified for the group stage of the 2008–09 UEFA Champions League as top seeds.

Carling Cup

I don't know if Carling Cup fixtures are copyrighted like the Premier Leagues are, but if not, then shouldn't the semi-finals legs with Derby County be added? Calebrw (talk) 17:11, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

All fixtures in competitions organised and run by the Premier League or the Football League are copyrighted by Football DataCo. Therefore, just as the Premier League fixtures are copyrighted, so too are Football League Cup fixtures. – PeeJay 17:19, 24 December 2008 (UTC)

Oh dear, I was thinking the exact same thing earlier today, and I decided against it. It is only January, after all. However, we now have confirmed fixtures for the 2009–10 season, so it's a bit up in the air. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be created, but perhaps it should be done in someone's userspace first. – PeeJay 16:28, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

Incorrect opening section (RE: European competition)

"The team will also be aiming to become the first in over 19 years to win consecutive UEFA Champions League titles, Milan being the last team to achieve this in 1990."

No side has ever won consecutive Champions League titles which is why Man Utd winning it would be such an achievement. Milan and numerous other clubs have won consecutive European Cup titles. The key difference, aside from name, being the format. Teso Dos Bichos (talk) 23:29, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Wes Brown

The page list Wes Brown as having won a EPL winner medal for 2008-2009 season. However, he played only a total of 8 games (2 of which he came in as a reserve).
