Participating teams
Beside each participating team, there are numbers in parentheses. For example, beside Argentina there is the number "169". What are these numbers supposed to represent? Magnolia677 (talk) 15:30, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- Number of participating athletes. OhanaUnitedTalk page 22:42, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you. My concern is that the numbers have been added randomly and without any references, and there's no explanation in the article about what the numbers represent. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:07, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
- I agree. There's no reference and no explanation. It should be fixed. Walter Görlitz (talk) 00:03, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
- The last addition was from User:Sportsfan 1234, who has been a solid contributor to the Pan Am articles. I'll leave a message on that user's talk page so we can track down a source. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:13, 12 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hi these numbers are sourced from each of the individual pages that have been created for each sport. Maybe we can make a note of that? Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 00:58, 12 October 2014 (UTC)

Individual sport pages
All the individual sport pages have been created! Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 01:48, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

Individual event pages
I was wondering for some of the sports such as roller sports and water skiing, if we you should have one page (as opposed to one for each event) listing the results? However it could get crowded, as roller sports has 8 events and water skiing with 9. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 00:46, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- Perhaps it can be all the events within the sport per gender, therefore two articles per sport. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 03:26, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
- Excellent idea I support it. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 03:44, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
- I also agree that this sounds like a good idea. We usually divide by gender as standard anyway. In terms of whether to create and article or not, I think it depends how much can be written on the event. If you could give a full treatment of that event in an article (like this, for example) then do a so. If it's just a competition between a small group of people where there isn't really any further discussion, then you're better off merging into the main article. Also note that there is prior precedent for separate event overview and in-depth result listing articles (e.g.) if that works out better. SFB 19:55, 9 February 2015 (UTC)
- For athletics I think that separate articles would be better (with qualification, records etc. being subsections). But sports like those listed above i think splitting by gender is the way to go. Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 00:32, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

This entry was written like it done by the public affairs branch of the 2015 PAG. Maybe a more objective point of view is required. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.48.40.112 (talk) 13:48, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
Renaming of venues in Games-related internal links
Several internal links associated with the venues which will be used during the Pan Am Games have had their names changed by various editors. For example, BMO Field, which will be referred to as "Exhibition Stadium" during the Games, has been linked to on various articles as Exhibition Stadium. Other venues, such as Pan Am Ball Park, have been linked to in various articles as President’s Choice Ajax Pan Am Ballpark, to acknowledge a Games-related corporate sponsor. These sorts of links seem contrary to the spirit and word of WP:MOSLINK, and I have corrected several of these links. It would be best to link as closely as possible to the official name of the venue, per WP:LINKCLARITY, and then acknowledge—in the text of the article—that the venue will be renamed during the Games (with a reliable source). This may need discussing. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 13:08, 6 June 2015 (UTC)
- Okay, did you remove the sentence saying they would be renamed? Sportsfan 1234 (talk) 14:18, 6 June 2015 (UTC)
- It does not contradict MOSLINK and certainly not LINKCLARITY. This is common practice. Often, a redirect is created for these situations. If the games do not permit commercial sponsorship, the sponsor name is not included in the article. The 2010 and 2014 FIFA world cup tournaments both have examples of this. Please don't remove the content until consensus is reached. Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:47, 6 June 2015 (UTC)
- Ah, thanks. I knew there was probably some policy or previously-reached consensus supporting this sort of renaming. Could you direct me to it? Magnolia677 (talk) 19:20, 6 June 2015 (UTC)
- Sure. Go to the talk pages of those two articles and you'll see discussion. It's not policy. It's not a guideline (as far as I recall) it's consensus. We use the names that the games use and pipe to the articles as they are known on Wikipedia. Walter Görlitz (talk) 19:38, 6 June 2015 (UTC)
- I looked through the archives of both Talk:2010 FIFA World Cup and Talk:2014 FIFA World Cup but must have missed the discussion and consensus you are referring to. Be a good sport Walter and point me to it. Thanks again. Magnolia677 (talk) 20:10, 6 June 2015 (UTC)
- And did you check the archives? Talk:2010 FIFA World Cup/Archive 6#inconsistent venue naming and Talk:2014 FIFA World Cup/Archive 4#Stadium names. Pretty sure there was talk at FNB Stadium and I know there was discussion and moves at Arena Corinthians. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:22, 6 June 2015 (UTC)

Thank you, but there's certainly no consensus to be found on either of those two discussions. I will continue to correct the links on the 2015 Pam Am articles, per WP:LINKCLARITY. If an exception to the rule is desired for the 2015 Pam Am Games, I'd suggest a proposal be started at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Linking. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:10, 6 June 2015 (UTC)
- You are clearly not looking for one. The consensus was as I summarized: "The locations should named using the names during the event. If required, a footnote could be used to indicate that the location was temporarily renamed for the tournament." Whereas LINKCLARITY says nothing about this. The example is that you should link to Mozart's Requim rather than Mozart or Requium. I see the problem now, you don't understand English. I suggest you not edit English Wikipedia until you can understand the language. Walter Görlitz (talk) 01:11, 7 June 2015 (UTC)
- Just to clarify, LINKCLARITY does not say what you're saying. I had this completely backward. I kept thinking you wanted to show BMO Field when you wanted to pipe it out in favour of the name used during the game. That is the consensus opinion. I fixed the link in the prose and pipe the names of the other facilities that section. Walter Görlitz (talk) 01:27, 7 June 2015 (UTC)
- Walter, just because the last comment in a discussion is your inaccurate conclusion that consensus had been reached--as happened here--does not make it so. Please start a proposal, or an RfC for wider input on this discussion. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 01:46, 7 June 2015 (UTC)
- I'm sorry you think it's just me. You start the RfC. I know what the consensus is. Walter Görlitz (talk) 01:48, 7 June 2015 (UTC)
- And to be clear, the consensus is to pipe out commercial sponsorships in favour of more neutral names as I edited here. Walter Görlitz (talk) 01:53, 7 June 2015 (UTC)
- I agree with Walter Görlitz. The text should reflect the names used during the events, but piped to their usual names per articles on major sporting events that don't permit corporate sponsorships. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 02:20, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

Johnny, you lost me on that one. "The text should reflect the names used during the events" - which text? The text in the pipe of the link, or in the text of the article? "But piped to their usual names per articles on major sporting events that don't permit corporate sponsorships" - Huh? Please leave a more detailed description of your concern. I'm not trying to be difficult, but half the articles being linked to don't even mention the Pan Am Games. I'm even making corrections to the venue template. The template had a link to the "President’s Choice Ajax Pan Am Ballpark", but the Pan Am Ball Park article never once even mentions President's Choice! I'll continue my cleanup, and seek a wider input. Thank you again. Magnolia677 (talk) 02:52, 7 June 2015 (UTC)
- I meant to say "text in the article." Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 16:44, 7 June 2015 (UTC)
- Not entirely sure why we would want to signify that venue names have been "renamed". They are already renamed through sponsorship deals. When those sponsorships expire, everything has to change again. Just keep it piped for now. Walter Görlitz (talk) 02:48, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
- In other words, I agree with Walter Göritz on this, especially given that sponsorships can change over time. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 02:13, 12 June 2015 (UTC)

- On the FIFA World Cup articles, their venue list does use the official names, but then has the sanitized FIFA-required name under them in smaller type. We also want to comply with WP:ASTONISH; my idea would be to use both names on only the first reference, but then only use the "official" games name for the venue through the rest of the article. ViperSnake151 Talk 17:05, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- I don't recall seeing that on the FIFA articles. I saw pipes to the article names. Walter Görlitz (talk) 17:14, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

- I wasn't an active Wikipedian in 2006. See 2010 FIFA World Cup#Venues and 2014 FIFA World Cup#Venues instead. On the latter Arena de São Paulo was the most hotly contested while on the former, Soccer City was. Walter Görlitz (talk) 02:53, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

- There is currently a request for comment regarding this issue at Talk:Venues of the 2015 Pan American and Parapan American Games#RfC: Should links to venues of the 2015 Pan Am Games be piped? Magnolia677 (talk) 12:00, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
But that's not here. The discussion here has been settled. I'll discuss there. All of the other links here are correct. Walter Görlitz (talk) 12:15, 6 July 2015 (UTC)
Football, Soccer, or Football (Soccer), or Soccer (Football)?
On the Toronto 2015 website, it is officially referred to as "Football (soccer)". Even though it is being held in Canada, this is still a quasi-international event. In fact, 1996 Summer Olympics, despite being held in the U.S., still refers to it as "football". On the other hand, 1994 FIFA World Cup does use "soccer" here and there. ViperSnake151 Talk 06:05, 10 July 2015 (UTC)
- Let's change all to Football (Soccer) then, not simply piecemeal. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:07, 10 July 2015 (UTC)
- I agree. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 03:38, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- Done (just after I suggested that it be done. Walter Görlitz (talk) 03:51, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
- I agree. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 03:38, 13 July 2015 (UTC)
I made sure the medal count table in this article is limited to the top ten nations
I have clarified the notes, since before I made the changes, the hiddent comment stating that only the top ten would be listed is ignored. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 03:12, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

This article's attention to detail is impressive, and I could see no reason to put this on hold due to the lack of prose issues found. I've read through it twice and checked all of the sources I could access, but I couldn't find any problems with it. Therefore it meets the criteria, good work! JAGUAR 17:23, 25 November 2016 (UTC)

Should this be nominated as GA?
Since the 2015 Pan American Games are over last year and the article is quite well polished, it is time that it should be nominated as GA. Johnny Au (talk/contributions) 02:28, 25 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Johnny Au: Yes, go for it. OhanaUnitedTalk page 02:59, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
