Orphaned non-free media (Image:Madrid Olympics 2016 Logo.JPG)

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Madrid Olympics 2016 Logo.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 17:07, 13 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

2015 Pan American Games

edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article 2015 Pan American Games, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of 2015 Pan American Games. AfD nomination of 2015 Pan American Games

edit

I have nominated 2015 Pan American Games, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2015 Pan American Games. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Carol Van Sant.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Carol Van Sant.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it may be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 06:51, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Problem was that you linked to the article about the book (where the image isn't used) - rather than the film (where it is). BetacommandBot isn't smart enough to work that out. I've fixed the link for you now. Megapixie (talk) 14:01, 25 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Detroit Olympics

edit

Yeah, the Detroit Free Press had it on their website (freep.com) about Detroit City Council deciding to "actively persue and study the viability of a 2020 Summer Olympics Bid" (basically study the city and see if it can support and afford the Olympics), but it's since been removed X.X. RE:Singapore 2010 YOG

edit

First, may I point out that a general image of Downtown Singapore is of little value-addedness in an article on the Olympics. Photographs for cities in 2012 Summer Olympics bids do not show random photographs, but actual photographs related to the Olympic bid process. There is no need to rush to include any photograph in the absence of a relevant photograph, especially when it tells nothing extra to the reader, and on my sceeen at least, it even clutters up the 2010 Youth Olympic Games page in particular.

As for the inclusion of Singapore in the Olympics Template, I am not aware of any conflicts on such a move until now that you mention it. Apparantly just one user has found it neccesary to "derate" an Olympic event, and I am not sure if that is an agreeable move. As for the YOG template, in all honesty I felt it was poorly made, and an unnecesary dublication of the main Olympic template. Kindly consider merging them instead.--Huaiwei (talk) 05:29, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

I understand that you are trying to illustrate the winning city, and yes, I agree a picture will be great. But I think you need not worry that the 2010 Youth Olympic Games article will be devoid of images. I have plans to massively rewrite that article. Considering I live in that city, it should not be a major problem to get my own images where neccesary. It was a great pity, however, that I could not make it down to the bid announcement celebrations. That would have been the perfect picture for this purpose.
As for the template, the existing Olympics template already includes the YOGs. The YOG template is a direct dublication, and I find it highly premature to create such a template now. A YOG medal count or medalists list, for example, can only exist two years later! I also do not sense much "concensus" on the creation of a dublication template, unless you can point it out to me in case I missed it. Meanwhile, I have brought up the in/ex-clusion of "Singapore 2010" for discussion at Template_talk:Olympic_Games. Do feel free to voice your opinions there also. Cheers!--Huaiwei (talk) 05:51, 27 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Charlie's Angels episodes

edit

Thank you for the compliment! =) Over the past few months I've been trying to improve the overall quality of the article and the episode list. Unfortunately, the show is one that often garners criticism and is not taken seriously, thus the contributions made by some are, well, you know, not too good. There is so much information out there about the show, it's a shame that more people don't contribute to the article. I'd like to get some stuff in there about the reaction (both positive and negative) from feminist groups, but I've yet to locate any such sources. Keep up the good work! --Pisceandreams (talk) 00:37, 7 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use image problems

edit

I notice you have uploaded the image Image:Jim Lampley Interview.jpg with the {{Non-free television screenshot}} fair use image tag. However, this tag seems unrelated to the content of the image, and as a result it may qualify for speedy deletion. Image:Jim Lampley Interview.jpg has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you can find a valid tag that expresses why Image:Jim Lampley Interview.jpg can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the {{Non-free television screenshot}} tag that you have placed on it with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{non-free fair use in|article name that the image is used in}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the image. If the image has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it. However, you must not remove the speedy deletion notice. Thank you, and please feel free to continue contributing to Wikipedia.

Fair use images aren't allowed for living people, unfortunately, per WP:FU#Unacceptable use #12 in the subsection "Images." Hippo (talk) 01:20, 9 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Re: Michael Bennett

edit

Hi. Michael Bennett was indeed a well-known choreographer, but he's already in the category "American choreographers", which is a sub-category of "Choreographers", and policy is that you should not put an article in the parent category if it's already in the sub-category. "American choreographers" is, obviously, the category that best fits Bennett, so when soneone mistakenly added the "Choreographers" category to the page, I removed it. Speedy deletion of AAG Infobox

edit

A tag has been placed on AAG Infobox requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. GtstrickyTalk or C 19:40, 27 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Making the conclusion that her casting was controversial based on the source cited in the paragraph is a leap. If the screenwriter and director disagreed on the look of the women, it was not particularly controversial (except to the writer and director). Directors and screenwriters often disagree over the elements of a film. The casting of Michael Keaton as Batman_(1989_film)#Casting or the film The Passion of Christ both generated many articles in the media and caused letter writing campaigns by the public. That's controversial. Is there anything to support that the decision to use Newman and conservative outfits upset anybody beside Goldman? -Regards Nv8200p talk 18:10, 19 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

This image has the same issue as Image:Carol Van Sant.jpg,as the caption is not tied with the text it sits next to in a way to make the image significant. Also, this is one of four fair use images (including the movie poster) in this article, which is really too many, especially for an article this size. Please consider letting this one go. -Nv8200p talk 19:37, 19 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (File:London Olympic Cauldron Lighting.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading File:London Olympic Cauldron Lighting.jpg.

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:London Olympic Cauldron Lighting.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Armbrust, B.Ed. WrestleMania XXVIII The Undertaker 20–0 12:23, 30 July 2012 (UTC)Reply

Getting Wikimedians to the Olympic Games

edit

Hi. I am part of an effort to get Wikimedians access to the 2016 Summer Olympics as accredited reporters and photographers. Part of this effort includes covering the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Two Wikimedians have credentials to attend these games as reporters through Wikimedia Australia. As English Wikipedia does not allow original reporting, this is largely through Wikinews with a project page found at Wikinews:Paralympic Games. If you are interested in helping to get Wikimedians to the next Summer Olympics,I'd encourage you to assist with Wikinews efforts, and also to work on all language 2012 Summer Paralympic Wikipedia articles before, during and after the Games to demonstrate a track record of success. Thank you. --LauraHale (talk) 05:01, 17 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Non-free rationale for File:Claire de Loon, Mercer WI.JPG

edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Claire de Loon, Mercer WI.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Tiffany Welles.jpg

edit

Thank you for uploading File:Tiffany Welles.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Josh Milburn (talk) 19:20, 23 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open!

edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Invitation to the African Destubathon

edit

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)Reply
