Split?
editWouldn't it be better to have separate entries for the Top 10 Best Coaches and the Top 10 Best Teams or at least cut down the stats of the coaches and teams? At its present state, it looks cluttered. --Tubutler 19:56, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- I disagree I was just thinking of nominating this for a GA and I like it. Although they are separate topics I love the layout and look of this article. Quadzilla99 07:37, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, this is more of a list, I believe. So it can't be nominated for GA could perhaps be a featured list eventually though. Quadzilla99 05:48, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

edit..."The 50 Greatest Players in National Basketball Association History (also referred to as the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team) were chosen in 1996 on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the founding of the National Basketball Association (NBA) to comprise the fifty best and most influential players of the first half-century of the NBA, with respect not only to performance at the professional level but in consideration of sportsmanship, team leadership, and contributions to the growth of basketball and irrespective of positions played; only players to have played at least a portion of their careers in the NBA were eligible for selection."

Fair use rationale for Image:Nba50 logo sm TRANS.gif
editImage:Nba50 logo sm TRANS.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia: Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there are other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 23:29, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

- That person doesn't seem to be in the article now. Yes, people tend to edit the page, but we're usually pretty good about keeping the list correct. --Maxamegalon2000 15:24, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Restoration to the original page (50 Greatest Players in NBA History)
editThis page is entitled 50 Greatest Players in NBA History. As such, it describes a specific group of players named by the NBA in 1996 as their selections as the top 50 players in their league's history. It has nothing to do with a 2006 list created in 2006 by TNT sportscasters.
Accordingly, the below content referring to that non-NBA sanctioned list had been excised and stored here:
TNT addendum On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the release of the fiftieth-anniversary team, fourteen broadcasters employed by the American television network Turner Network Television, a broadcaster of NBA games and the network on which the programs The NBA on TNT and Inside the NBA air, released a list of the Next 10 Greatest Players. The panel, which included four former players and two panelists who voted on the initial NBA list, considered contemporary players who were unestablished in 1996 and historical players not already included on the original list. Released on February 18, 2006, the ranked list was presented in conjunction with the NBA's 2006 All-Star Weekend.
Players selected Players italicized were active during the 2005-06 season during which the team was announced, and are still playing as of 2009. Players starred had, upon the close of the 2005-06 season, been inducted as players into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Players with crosses (†) were inducted after 2006.

50 Greatest Players in NBA History Talk Page
editThis is up for debate. After all, this article is an opinion.— Preceding unsigned comment added by JEOLIVER001 (talk • contribs) 16:32, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
- As noted in the article lede, this was as one-time designation made in 1996 as part of the NBA's 50th anniversary. It was not intended to be updated, and the article name simply reflects the designation given at the time to the list of players that were selected.—Myasuda (talk) 02:14, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
Wait
editWait, isn't this list copyrighted by the NBA? Herostratus (talk) 03:24, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
- That's a decision for the NBA. They released the details at a press event, as opposed to publishing it exclusively in a book or video.—Bagumba (talk) 08:31, 22 October 2021 (UTC)
Top 10 Coaches in NBA History needs cleanup
editBill Fitch continued to coach after the list was published. In contrast to other coaches on this list who did so, he only has one coaching record entry - for his whole career. So his record up to the 95/96 season needs to be added. 165.1.194.41 (talk) 15:25, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
Potential improvement to Players selected list
editI'd say for players who were still active when being selected, the stats at the time of their selection is at least as interesting as their lifetime stats. So either change the stats to the status when they were selected, or do it like the Coach list and add their stats when they were selected above their lifetime stats. 165.1.194.41 (talk) 15:28, 20 June 2022 (UTC)
