Plagiarism of Summary

edit

Hasn't anyone noticed yet that this summary is taken directly from the SatyajitRay.org review? And that too without any citation, but with an external link to that review!

I would gladly write a review myself, if only I understood this film a little better. Abhijan completely confused me when I saw it (it didn't seem at all like his previous films!). --Kuaichik 05:38, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

But what right do I have to complain, really? I think I'll just write my own review (once I get to actually understand, in my own words, what was going on in this movie). --Kuaichik 07:11, 9 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Satyajit Ray - Abhijan.jpg

edit

Image:Satyajit Ray - Abhijan.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:08, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Supposed influence on Taxi Driver

edit

On this article, it says the following in the Introduction section: "The protagonist Narasingh (played by Soumitra Chatterjee) was a direct influence for the character of the cynical cab driver Travis Bickle (played by Robert De Niro) in Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver (1976). Scorsese himself has credited Satyajit Ray as a major influence on his work."

This is patently false.

First up, Taxi Driver was written by Paul Schrader, not Martin Scorsese.

Then, you can check the Development on the Taxi Driver article here and at no point do they credit Abhijan: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxi_Driver#Development If you dig a bit, you can even find the writer describing how he came up with a taxi driver for a protagonist: https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/taxi-driver-martin-scorsese-paul-schrader-story/ "It was that ulcer that led him to the hospital and, during his time of treatment, he conceived the metaphor the taxi cab: “That is what I was: this person in an iron box, a coffin, floating around the city, but seemingly alone,” he explained."

Finally, the article used as a reference for the Abhijan connection (https://web.archive.org/web/20090629210720/http://culturazzi.org/review/people-celebrities-artists/satyajit-ray-part2) does not say Abhijan's main character was "a direct influence" on Travis Bickle. Instead, it says this: "In Abhijaan (The Expedition) you have the prototype for Robert De Niro’s Tavis Bickle in Martin Scorsese’s acclaimed Taxi Driver – a cynical cab driver (played expertly by Ray’s favourite lead and regular Soumitra Chatterjee) who falls for a woman he is destined to loose."

So I suggest removing or reworking this sentence because at best, it's highly misleading. Mictateur (talk) 12:14, 17 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
