Awards and Recognitions

edit

Better to keep Awards and Recognitions as a separate section in the article as the film may win more awards.

Amrita-FEFKA Film Awards

edit

According to this report, the film has won five awards at the Amrita-FEFKA Film Awards. Can anybody provide the complete list of winners from a reliable source? When I googled, I got only some youtube videos and photos of the award function which was held on 23 April. -- Arfaz (talk) 15:29, 26 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Reassessment

edit

The article is reassessed to B-class in WikiProject India and WikiProject Film, as it abides by the guidelines for B-class articles in both the projects. Thanks to User:Aichikawa for copy-editing the article so well. – Arfaz (talk) 18:40, 12 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Merger proposal of Critical response to Adaminte Makan Abu

edit

Merger proposed. Critical response page not very big. Can easily be accomodated on the main article page. Main article page already has half of it. -Animeshkulkarni (talk) 16:42, 12 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Support. The main article can take these details also. After that, the whole content can be reviewed and trimmed.
Anish Viswa 07:41, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Support. Definitely fails Wp:PLOT and Wp:CFORK. I tried trimming it earlier, but someone reverted it for senseless reasons. Secret of success Talk to me 11:25, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Adaminte Makan AbuAbu, Son of Adam – The film's English title is Abu, Son of Adam. All the international websites including IMDB call the movie by that name only. Why keeping a little known title for the article? So I request to move the page to its English title per WP:NCF. DdraconiandevilL (talk) 08:01, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Oppose: Adaminte Makan Abu is the ofiicial and original title. The National award was awarded for film titled Adaminte Makan Abu only and so it is how the film is recorded in the National awards records, the highest honour in the country. Salim Kumar received the National award also for the film named Adaminte Makan Abu. The official announcement on Indian official entry was also made using the title Adaminte Makan Abu and the entry was sent with this name only. So this is the official title and the popular common title. The English title is only for the purpose of film festival screenings to the English speaking audience.
Anish Viswa 08:31, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
How can "Adaminte Makan Abu" be the popular title? Who in the world other than Indians know the movie by that title? All regional films are known by their original names in that particular region alone. For eg, the famous movie City of God is known by its Portugese title in Brazil, but even though its my favourite film of all time, I don't know that title. It is known by the English title to everyone other thab the Brazilians. Similarly this movie is known by its original Malayalam title only to Indians. Since wikipedia is an international website, the title with which the film is known internationally, should be used as the article title.DdraconiandevilL (talk) 09:16, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
The comparison is not correct. City of God was released in English all over the World and hence common audience around thee world know it by that title. Here, Adaminte Makan Abu is just going to 2-3 film festivals with an English title. It is not going to the common people outside India or even outside Kerala, which means the English title and English version is not going to gain any popularity outside India. All the popularity is within India, especially Kerala, where it is known as Adaminte Makan Abu only.
Anish Viswa 09:30, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Oppose Indian films generally retain the native title. It is important to retain the title by which it is famous, not the title which is an "international" version. Lynch7 10:14, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Strong Oppose: Adaminte Makan Abu is the official title and the name of a national award winning film and is known by that name only. There is no need for the move to any other title. Btw IMDB is not considered as reliable source. -- Tinu Cherian - 11:14, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Oppose. English translation can be found for many Indian films which have been presented at International festivals, hence it would be illogical to rename the page. Secret of success Talk to me 11:21, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Strong Oppose: Indian films are generally known by the native name. The present title is the official title of the movie as pointed out by many. "IMDB" lists many film titles in English, which cannot be taken into consideration. --Commander (Ping Me) 12:53, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Oppose. I can't see any precedence for anglicizing the Indian film titles in Wikipedia. It is not necessary to follow IMDb as it is not considered a reliable source. We should stick here to the commonly accepted practice of keeping the native (and the official) titles for Indian Films. Salih (talk) 16:46, 27 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Comment Can someone explain why this should be the exception to WP:NCF and WP:UE? Lugnuts (talk) 11:33, 29 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Because this is an Indian film basically, and is widely known in literature by its name in the Indian language, so I guess its basically a case of WP:UCN. Lynch7 17:13, 29 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
The widely known movie is the Indian version of it, because it has gained all the recognition; not the English translated one. It wouldn't be fair to call it an English language film and give it an English title. Lynch7 17:35, 29 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

As advised by Moonriddengirl, I've paraphrased the quotes partially or fully, to avoid the copyright problems of Arfaz/DdraconiandevilL. Allens (talk) 23:23, 11 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
