First name
editAccording to the Star Wars wiki, Admiral Ackbar either does not have a first name, or has never said it. I think the bits about Ackbar's first name being Allahu are vandalism, and should be removed. I would do so myself, but am in a bit of a hurry, and therefore can't sign up quick enough. -Anonymous Coward (Edit: Not too much of a hurry, changing it now) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.136.98.140 (talk • contribs) 02:32, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
- The Essential Guide to Warfare confirms that his first name is Gial. (I decided to make that my user name here when I found out). Gial Ackbar (talk) 10:21, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

St,?
editI have not seen the Saint attribution applied to Admiral Ackbar before. It should be explained or referenced in the text. Also I added the attribution to Something Awful - I believe that the Admiral's first use as a photoshop cliche was there, later migrating to fark, but I am not certain and would want to see a reference before stating as much in the entry. --Leperflesh 01:53, Aug 6, 2004 (UTC)

- Were I the catholic church, I would give him sainthood, but that's neither here nor there.Atinoda 19:37, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- I agree with Atinoda. Ackbar is nothing short of a saint. What a leader. Always a step or two ahead of the game.--Lindsay (talk) 02:30, 30 September 2008 (UTC)
Separating the Novels from the Movies
editPerhaps the background information on the Admiral and other Star Wars characters that came after the movies should be denoted as such. I think most people only know the movies, and might be confused by references to the political career of a very minor character.
P.S. I once sent several proofs of purchase to Hollywood, (or somewhere?), to get the Admiral Ackbar action figure. I'm wondering if this would be an encyclopedically worthy addition to the article? ;-) ;-) ;-) AdmN 02:12, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)
I would think so, I think the only way you could get Ackbar was by mail ordering for him. I've seen a website talking about it. Maybe I'll get around to adding it. Also, I agree that the Ackbar movie appearance and general description should be separate from his novel exploits. Especially since novels have a tendency to fall in and out of continuity. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by SeanO (talk • contribs) 11:32, 23 August 2004 (UTC)
- Yeah, well speaking of novels, "It's a trap!" was first said by Samwise Gamgee in "The Lord of the Rings" when he was in Shelob's tunnel. I don't have any idea what you guys are talking about getting Ackbar by mail and ordering for him. Wastrel Way (talk)Eric
Am I the only one
editwho always found it kind of silly, that they look like squid and the name of their species is Mon Calamari?--Reference(www.com) 20:54, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
- Star Wars is just ridiculous like that. For other hilarity, look up the Alliance fighter pilot Zev Porkins. Keep in mind, no one knew this was going to be as popular as it was, and no one had any idea that anyone would care what the name of Admiral Ackbar's race was.Atinoda 19:39, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- That's not entirely true, though. While they didn't know the first movie would be so successful, they certainly knew by the time RotJ came around - and that's when we first see Mon Calamari. I think they just enjoyed being a little tongue-in-cheek. — ceejayoz talk 15:56, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
Pop culture
editDoes the heading "Admiral Ackbar in popular culture" strike anyone else as a bit, well, silly? What references are there to Admiral Ackbar that are not in popular culture? -R. fiend (talk) 20:08, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
- Someone deleted the entire Popular Culture section from the article. WTF. i re-added it back in. Roidroid (talk) 15:51, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

I added in a reference to 4chan because the meme is seen alot on that imageboard Thegeebe2 (talk) 02:21, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- I reverted it. It is an uncited claim, and merely being spoofed on 4chan is trivia. --EEMIV (talk) 02:27, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Fish and a poo???
editCurrently, the article claims that "He is always depicted as looking like a cross between a fish and a poo." The article is locked, so I can't fix this obvious vandalism. If it isn't vandalism... I humbly submit that "a poo" is not a terribly encyclopedic way of describing Ackbar's image. 128.208.160.162 (talk) 23:48, 30 March 2009 (UTC)
Republic Service
editIt should be noted that the in-universe timeline is quite inaccurate. I can't recall off hand when Admiral Ackbar resumed his position in the New Republic, but it was long before the Yuzzhan Vong war. He appeared in that role in the Black Fleet Crisis trilogy, which took place a good 10 years prior to the Yuzzhan Vong war, and after his self imposed exile in the Jedi Academy trilogy. Linkskywalker (talk) 03:01, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
- Fixed. --EEMIV (talk) 03:06, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Ole Miss
editThe pop culture section may benefit from the inclusion of the fact that, currently, there is a grassroots movement at the University of Mississippi, "Ole Miss", to replace their current mascot, Col. Reb, with Admiral Ackbar. For more information, please see http://www.notatrap.org/ HandsomeSam57 (talk) 03:16, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
- I removed that part of the trivia section because it was not sourced. I'm not sure if the web site you referenced here is a WP:RS for purposes of including this trivia. If you can find a news article about this then it would be appropriate to add it back with the referenceAsher196 (talk) 04:56, 23 February 2010 (UTC)
Trap?
editI couldn't find any references to Ackbar's famous line, "It's a trap!" on this article. I would think it's worth mentioning, even if not in it's own section. It's his only line of dialogue with which many people are familiar, due to popularity. Also, I would think many people would know Ackbar only as "that guy from Star Wars who says 'It's a Trap', even if they never saw the movies. Seems to me it's worth at least a sentence of mention. 71.79.240.19 (talk) 08:47, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
- There is now a brief mention of the line's status as an internet meme, which I referenced from knowyourmeme.com. Caligari 87 (talk) 17:25, 18 August 2011 (UTC)
- "It's a trap!" was first said by Samwise Gamgee in "The Lord of the Rings" when he was in Shelob's tunnel. They stole it! :-) Wastrel Way (talk) 03:56, 22 January 2024 (UTC) Eric

Episode 3 deleted scenes...
editI'm convinced he makes a cameo with other future Rebel Alliances in a meeting with Palpatine that can be found as a deleted scene. Shouldn't this be referenced in the article if indeed he is in that scene? ER90s (talk) 08:26, 1 October 2015 (UTC)

Response to Ackbar's death
editSeveral fans expressed disappointment with Ackbar's sudden death in The Last Jedi, calling it abrupt and unceremonious. Fans particularly criticized that Ackbar was only featured in the background of the shot where he dies, with the camera focused primarily on Leia Organa, and that his death is mentioned only in passing by other characters later. Scott Chitwood of TheForce.net said: "He deserved a little more attention. I would have liked to see him killed in action in the final battle, but I guess that's asking a lot of a sickly old Admiral". This passage extremely implies that Chitwood was critizing the death of Ackbar in TLJ, when he in fact was critizing Ackbar's passing in The Unifying Force. I'm not sure exactly how this should be fixed, but as this article is a GA, it definitly needs to be corrected. Senior Captain Thrawn (talk) 21:56, 8 March 2023 (UTC)
