I question wither some of the information present in this article should instead be in the games own articles and not under the general header of series. This page is disorganzied and will become even more so if Atari intends to reinvent the franchise once again. I'm going to suggest moving the new nightmare spefic info to the new nightmare page, and possibly creating an orginal trilogy page. I dunno, I'm new to this process and open to suggestions.

Is there a demo version of this game series ?

  • there is a demo for the first alone in the dark (DOS) game at download.com

No rendered backgrounds

edit

Alone in the Dark 1 and 2 (at least) do not have rendered computer backgrounds - they have all been drawn by hand. The article is wrong at this point. --Abdull 19:41, 5 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

--3rd one features hand drawn backgrounds as well and come to think of it, new nightmare, while having a completely different engine, still uses drawn backgrounds instead of rendering them in 3d.

The original trilogy backgrounds were made by hand painting over a wireframe render of the background. I'll try to write something about it as I have some first material on this. yaz0r 08:36, 25 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

@yaz0r @Abdull Has this issue been fixed? Lbertolotti (talk) 17:38, 18 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

contradictions in the movie

edit

What part of the movie contradicts the latest game?

---Almost every part of it, it depicts the Abkanis as an evil race, they depict the shadows as corporeal beings 100% of time, the characters are in a city, they are not 'alone', not in the 'dark', they close the Door by themselves(remember Edenshaw, the abkani), there is no Obed or Alan Morton who try to unleash the shadows, etc.189.136.141.217 03:45, 5 January 2007 (UTC) CthulhuReply

Changes possibles

edit

I agree that some information should be in their game articles instead of the series article, especially with the characters article.

Each list of characters (except Carnby from the Trilogy) could be in their respective game article while Carnby, being the only character that appear in all games (even though he is completly different in part 4) can be in the series page (his description can be extended a bit)

And the Minor Villains of Alone in the Dark 2 are incomplete. I could complete them if they're section is moved. By the way, the Sheriff in Alone in th Dark is named. In the French version (not sure if he is named differently in the English version), he was called Jack Dawson. You can hear it at the end of the first part of the song (in the saloon where you get the lamp). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.200.158.188 (talk) 04:56, 10 April 2007 (UTC).Reply

"It was one of the first two games to use polygonal characters over pre-rendered backgrounds." Perhaps the other game should be mentioned? (or at least a source for this information, specifically i can't find it anywhere) NaveedKoval (talk) 02:40, 3 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Merger suggested

On the talk page for the Edward Carnby article (talk page link: Talk:Edward Carnby), it has been suggested that this article be redirected to this one. Here's the verbatim text:

"Anyone interested have 1 week to show the proof of independent notability of the character (in the article or here below), in other case I'll redirect it back to the series. --Niemti (talk) 09:33, 19 June 2012 (UTC)"

As merger discussions typically occur on the target article's talk page, I've placed this message here. Northamerica1000(talk) 10:17, 19 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose a blanket redirect without merging the verified information to this article, in part per WP:PRESERVE.
Support a Merge, but not a redirect without a merge. Northamerica1000(talk) 10:18, 19 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

So merge, if you find something in that article to be useful here (maybe a list of the character's voice actors or something). I think you should rather merge it with http://aloneinthedark.wikia.com/wiki/Edward_Carnby where content doesn't need to be referenced, because it's Wikia. Anyway, also 1 week (a plenty of time). --Niemti (talk) 10:32, 19 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Cool, do it. --Niemti (talk) 12:06, 19 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Main series page

edit

Can I recommend omitting the characters section? A lot of the same stuff comes under the plot summary and there is only a paragraph about Edward Carnby, which had been on a separate article once. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PeterMan844 (talkcontribs) 12:08, 20 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
