CAREFUL!!

edit

I think you did not noticed the previous article called Aparna Nair, there is already an article about the Malayalam Actress Aparna Nair. Hinduistic (talk) 14:59, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

People can have similar names, y'know. Wyliepedia @ 16:18, 1 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Punctuation

edit

A majority of sources omit the punctuation after the letter P. Please discuss here if you have evidence to the contrary. Thanks, WWGB (talk) 10:42, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

The result of the move request was: moved. Per consensus, WP:SPACEINT is applicable with clear explanation by Refsworldlee, and subsequent clarification by woodensuperman. (closed by non-admin page mover) – robertsky (talk) 19:55, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Aparna P NairAparna P. Nair – Per WP:SPACEINITS, there should be a full stop after a middle initial. Sources are mixed on this, so the exception regarding preferred style/overwhelming majority of sources is not applicable, as this is just based on the publications' house styles, where we should be defaulting to our own house style. --woodensuperman 10:55, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

  • Oppose. I have a different reading of sources. I see that a significant majority of reliable sources refer to the subject as "Aparna P Nair" rather than "Aparna P. Nair". WWGB (talk) 11:18, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
The key word is "overwhelming", not "significant", otherwise default house style trumps here. --woodensuperman 11:21, 5 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. This is not an issue for external sources to sort out - it's an internal Wikipedia issue which, as clearly explained in the Manual of Style, requires the necessary stop mark. Unless the deceased considered her whole name to be a complete pseudonym, she should be listed in the same way that every other entry is as regards punctuated name initials. I don't see the debate here - I routinely update loads of these errors every month. And they are errors. Ref (chew)(do) 08:19, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
Actually, there is not a "same way that every other entry is". MOS:SPACEINITS provides exceptions where the punctuation of initials is omitted, such as CCH Pounder. It's a matter for consensus whether Nair satisfies an exception. WWGB (talk) 10:48, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
The exception for CCH Pounder is, per the MOS, to be considered a self-published name change. That is clearly NOT the case here. It's just different publications using different house styles. --woodensuperman 11:08, 7 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment: I note this would reverse a previous move
10:38, 5 September 2023‎ WWGB talk contribs block‎ 74 bytes +74‎ WWGB moved page Aparna P. Nair to Aparna P Nair over redirect: Revert undiscussed move (WP:RMUM): per MOS:INITIALS, an overwhelming majority of reliable sources omit the punctuation

which appears to have in turn reversed another move, now overwritten in the history. Andrewa (talk) 12:02, 12 September 2023 (UTC)Reply
