NBSA Censure
On May 20th, 2011 the “Times Now” telecast a debate show titled “Will Kanimohzi turn approver” on its primetime program “News Hour” anchored by the Editor-in-Chief of the Channel. Mr. Arnab Goswami. The News Broadcasting Standards Authority (NBSA) decided to initiate suo motu action against “Times Now” channel after thoroughly considering the content and the context of the program. The Authority, whose chairman is a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India, concluded that the Broadcaster was in clear violation of Guidelines 3 & 4 of the Specific Guidelines for reporting Court Proceedings and issued to the Broadcaster a “Censure” for breaches committed by it. In their order dated 19.10.11 in Complaint No. 8 of 2011 (SM), the Authority observed: 1. The entire debate, particularly the stress by the anchor (Mr. Arnab Goswami) on a particular point of view was unwarranted and did not amount to neutral and balanced reporting; 2. The debate on the issue and, especially the manner in which it was conducted by the anchor (the Editor-in-Chief of the Channel) violated both the letter and the spirit of the Guidelines; A mention of this censure should find a place in the biography of Mr. Goswami along with the honours and awards he has received and should not be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 59.182.247.11 (talk) 05:07, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

This following paragraph is erroneous: "Arnab Goswami began his career in TV news broadcast with NDTV 24x7 in 2005, where he anchored daily newscasts, and reporting for News Tonight a programme telecast on DD Metro.[6] Later as the news editor, he was part of NDTV’s core team during the transition from programme producer to the 24-hour mode in 1998". If Arnab was a visiting fellow in 2000, how can he be a programme producer in 1998? 202.131.155.20 (talk) 08:59, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Arnab Goswami is of Assamese origin, not Bengali.
It has been misinterpreted in this article that Arnab Goswami is of Bengali descent settled in Assam. He is of Assamese origin. Some people are trying to put the Bengali origin again and again. If they have facts they should prove it. Debanjan ray (talk) 05:15, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- If some people are having the misperception just because of his Goswami surname I would like to inform them that a lot of Assamese people use Goswami as their surname. One of the most prominent being Indira Goswami. Debanjan ray (talk) 05:21, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- It was recently changed by an anonymous IP and there was a minor sort-of edit war over that statement. Thanks for rectifying it.
- Note that I could only find amongst the references mentions of his native place being Assam....nothing about him being an Assammese Brahmin. There's already the "People from Guwahati" category anyway. Also I trimmed down redundant statements like "He was born in Assam...He comes from an Assamese family". Good day, Ugog Nizdast (talk) 18:07, 19 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks Ugog Nizdast for your clarification! Debanjan Ray has a point. I have also noticed the same for sometime. But I do not get the reason for the removal of (Assamese: অৰ্ণৱ গোস্বামী) from the article. Pranabnlp (talk) 06:51, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
- No problem. Oh that? I removed it per WP:INDICSCRIPTS. Sincerely, Ugog Nizdast (talk) 10:21, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
but I have enough evidance that he is an assamese... debanjan please contect me my id: shasankaborkotoky@gmail.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shasankaborkotoky (talk • contribs) 15:02, 21 March 2014 (UTC)

Reason for removal
Why is the part (Assamese: অৰ্ণৱ গোস্বামী) removed from the article? Debanjan ray (talk) 17:02, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
- Because of WP:INDICSCRIPT. There is consensus that these scripts shouldn't be added in the lead. -Joel. Ugog Nizdast (talk) 04:44, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
- Well, then why is the same being allowed here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swapan_Dasgupta ? Debanjan ray (talk) 05:14, 21 April 2015 (UTC)
- Be bold and removed it yourself, citing it like how I did. See also: WP:OTHERSTUFF. -Joel. Ugog Nizdast (talk) 05:44, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

Please change Date of Birth of Arnab Goswami from 9 October 1973 to 7 March 1973 Minithapar (talk) 15:31, 13 October 2016 (UTC)

"Most popular"
As it stands, the descriptor added to the lead is highly undue weight. It is not supported by a quick review of the sources: and it is not an accurate summary of the body of the article. Including it in the lead is therefore inappropriate. Vanamonde (talk) 07:00, 18 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Vanamonde93: The heading of the second reference is quite clear and my first source clearly says what was added in the wiki article. If you are not happy with the addition then i will seek other editors' opinions. Mawlidman (talk) 06:04, 21 October 2016 (UTC)
- @Mawlidman: Go ahead and ask for opinions, but please remember that while being verifiable is a precondition for content being included in the article, it is not enough. The analysis of his work currently present in the article is mostly critical. Introducing one line of praise into the lead is therefore undue weight. If you want to start a broader discussion about the criticism section, go ahead. Vanamonde (talk) 09:53, 21 October 2016 (UTC)
- I agree with Vanamonde. Firstly it has weasel words He is described. . . Who described, second I don't think it is needed. Other "top 10" or "top N" lists may have different results, such as this, where Goswami is on the 6th spot. --Tito Dutta (talk) 11:04, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

His "nationalist" quote
“I am a nationalist. And I want to say today that being a nationalist is a prerequisite to being a journalist. In our reporting and in our relentless pursuit of the truth, our nationalism is our strength, our nationalism is at our core.”[1][2]
Vanamonde93 As you have been reverting this quote, its true that it is WP:UNDUE for the lead. But I want to insert it in the 'Republic TV' section, since Arnab stated that during the channel's launch. What do you say? --- Tyler Durden (talk) 15:58, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
- Possibly acceptable in the republic TV section, though it would be far better if placed in the context of what commentators say about him. Just a soundbyte, by itself, adds very little because there is no end to them. Vanamonde (talk) 17:20, 28 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Vanamonde93: I inserted it like this. Please let me know what you feel about it. Regards, Tyler Durden (talk) 20:19, 28 May 2017 (UTC)

Change of the date of birth.
This is a request to change the wrong mention of his date of birth from 9th October 1973 to 7th March 1973. I strongly feel and believe that a person who is searched, loathed and browsed about the most should not have his Wikipedia account with a misleading basic piece of information like this. Sources:Videos uploaded on YouTube from journalists working in the Studios of Republic have clear mentions of his date of birth as 7th March which is clearly cent percent true. Dear team wiki, I hope you will consider my request and make this change. Regards. HarshithaHappyGoLucky (talk) 15:02, 7 October 2018 (UTC)

Here's a humble request from my side to the administrator or to any person here having content editing access to this wikipedia page to kindly change the journalist's date of birth from 9th October 1973 to 7th March 1973
7th March 1973 is his correct date of birth.
Source for my appeal- Tweets from his own media colleagues and closest friends all wishing him a happy birthday on 7th March and a youtube video uploaded by one of his (that clearly mentions the date as 7th March) by one of his own camerapersons working in his studios for his media network.

I agree about him not being notable for height. But the content about his spouse's name, no: of children, his residence is cent percent right though I haven't provided the sources. Will edit this information with SOURCES if acceptable cz many have wrong notions of his spouse's name. I've come across her linkedin profile too. This is basic piece of info I feel is necessary. Will provide sources for this :) HarshithaHappyGoLucky (talk) 10:05, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
- Linked in profile wouldn't do as per WP:Independent. Find reliable third-party source(s) supporting these things, news sites, books, etc so as not to violate WP:BLPPRIVACY. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 11:57, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
Sorry for the delayed reply. His spouse's name and information about his children now have citations. Also, about his residence there's a tweet from his channel that has him standing after casting his vote before Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar School in Mumbai,Lower Parel which is his constituency where his residence is,ever since he shifted to Mumbai in 2004. His son is an Ex- Dhirubhai International school alumnus. HarshithaHappyGoLucky (talk) 20:22, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
- I've added the info on his wife and son in the article body. His residence was not well sourced. I mean, we need a reliable source which explicitly mentions that Goswami is a resident of Mumbai as per our WP:OR policy. Information on his son's school is not needed here. It is trivial. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 09:04, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

Recent reversion
The current interpretation of MOS:LEADCITE, as laid out in GAR/FARs, is that leads ought to not use any cite at all, since it merely summarizes information from ac ross the body, which is expected to be cited. Accordingly, I don't have any objections with anybody introducing redundant citations at the lead but a cn tag is obviously non-meaningful. Alternately, if you believe any part of the current lead to be not covered in body at all, please feel free to mention. ∯WBGconverse 13:07, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
Do note!
I oppose the use of word controversial in the opening line. This makes whole Wikipedia article negative and it is labeling. Most controversial person on earth, that is Donald Trump, doesn't have such type of labeling in Wikipedia page and opening line. Arundhati Roy and Azam Khan even don't have such labels. I doubt if any other Wikipedia pages use such type of harsh labeling for BLP, thus, this should be removed. His reception should be reflected in LEAD section but not in opening line as controversial. If consensus will not be reached then I will open RfC about it or will move to BLPN. -- Harshil want to talk? 04:17, 8 January 2020 (UTC)

- Done, but only because such an excessive quote is a copyright violation (as was your copy/paste, hence the redaction). In a new low for Republic TV, panelists from India and Pakistan, discussing the thwarted Pulwama-like bombing, were seen brandishing weapons. In another segment, Arnab Goswami blamed Imran Khan for the locust attack in our country. I want an edit. Atifimtiazsh (talk) 13:58, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

Please change the Occupation of Arnab Goswami from Indian journalist to Indian dalla. Realchaos11 (talk) 16:24, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- Not done. Dalla means pimp, which would violate WP:BLP. NedFausa (talk) 16:30, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- That was a blatant attack on the subject of the article. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 18:11, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
Typo error
By the way, he is not a journalist though. He should be presented as TV presentor. Monuj12 (talk) 15:57, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
- I agree. Indian news anchor is more appropriate. I have updated it. Thank you Monuj12 --Walrus Ji (talk) 09:27, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
Use of "accused" in the lead sentence
An "Accused" is not a convict. Arnab Goswami is currently incarcerated under Abetment to Suicide by the Maharashtra Police. This should reflect on the page in the first line itself. Is there a difference of opinion? TheBlueKnight (talk) 15:53, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- First line itself? No, it should not as per:
- MOS:CONTEXTBIO which says →
The opening paragraph should usually provide context for the activities that made the person notable.
And he is not notable for being an "accused" in the case. He is notable for being a news anchor and journalist. - As per MOS:ROLEBIO,
The lead sentence should describe the person as they are commonly described in reliable sources
- That is him being a news anchor and journalist - As per MOS:LEADBIO,
The lead section must summarise the life and works of the person with due weight.
- ditto
- Your version here, "
Arnab Ranjan Goswami (born 7 March 1973) is an accused currently in custody of Maharashtra Police for abetment to suicide. He is also an Indian news anchor
" - on the other hand prioritizes him as an accused, which is a current event "label", so absolutely not lead sentence worthy.
- As far as addition of this in the another part of the lead is concerned, the MOS:LEADBIO does mention
Well-publicized recent events affecting a subject, whether controversial or not, should be kept in historical perspective. What is most recent is not necessarily what is most noteworthy: new information should be carefully balanced against old, with due weight accorded to each
, but inclusion of a recent event should be based on WP:WEIGHT and is obviously discussion worthy. However, one should note that even the article on Rhea Chakraborty doesn't mention anything about her being an "accused" in the lead sentence despite the coverage and hype surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput's death. Pinging @NedFausa, Ravensfire, Newslinger, Tayi Arajakate, Jéské Couriano, RickinBaltimore, Jonathansammy, ChunnuBhai, and Walrus Ji:. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:36, 4 November 2020 (UTC)- Fylindfotberserk, Concur. See WP:BLPCRIME for further support. Honestly, it's questionable even to include the material in the article, but that's just my view. Goswami is a public figure and if this is getting enough attention in sources, especially if it continues more than a day or two, that lends more support to include it in the article. The lead though? Nope. Ravensfire (talk) 17:01, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- It should not be in the lead at all let alone the first line. If and when he is convicted then only can a case be made for it imo. Otherwise from what I have seen, I think this has enough media attention to be included in the body of the article. Tayi Arajakate Talk 17:22, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- Fylindfotberserk,I concur too.It definitely dos not belong in the lede.Jonathansammy (talk) 17:29, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
- I agree with the detailed reasoning given by Fylindfotberserk. Primary identity of Arnab Goswamy is as a news anchor or a journalist, and the current lead is sufficient. Mentioning him as an accused in the lead, will violate NPOV. Many notable people get arrested for various reasons. We dont add "accused" in the lead. Even Osama bin Laden is not described as a terrorist in the lead.ChunnuBhai (talk) 06:06, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
- No. Don't add in the first line. It is just an accusation now. May be it can be added in the last line of the lead. --Walrus Ji (talk) 12:47, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
Thanks. That makes sense. I guess if and when he is convicted, one can follow the model as seen on the page of Rajat Gupta. TheBlueKnight (talk) 05:49, 7 November 2020 (UTC)

The entire "Reception" section should be removed. This is not a film or TV show. It is also a copy-paste from Republic TV#Critical commentary, the content is already in the respective article, also refer WP:CRITS. The huge quote from Dexter Filkins is also a copyright violation and WP:UNDUE, don't forget this is a BLP article. 2409:4073:2100:E8EE:6D95:BA2E:7D3C:66DE (talk) 09:04, 5 November 2020 (UTC)

Hi! There are two discussions going on regarding adding controversies of pending criminal issues related to BLP and their spawns here and at WP:BLPCRIME Please see if they are relevant to this article as well. Thanks Vikram Vincent 13:16, 7 November 2020 (UTC)
Incorrect middle name
The earlier content here pertaining to his Birth name was the correct version.
Check this letter out signed by him- https://www.newslaundry.com/amp/story/2017%2F01%2F31%2Farnab-goswami-renames-his-channel-from-republic-to-republic-tv
Look for the R in his signature.....
Also, it's a known fact that his company is called ARG (*An acronym of his full name)
Even in his petitions at courts his documents show Ranjan as his middle name & not Manoranjan.
Requesting people here to please get it corrected. HarshithaHappyGoLucky (talk) 09:22, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hmm... it is getting confusing since this government source mentions "Manoranjan". - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 12:25, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
Serious issues with the Middle name used in article based on SCoI docs
Supreme court of India Orders/Appeals/Petition/whatever are a primary source and not reliable to cite on Wikipedia. See WP:PRIMARY.
Read his names in the following SCoI doc links:
1) https://main.sci.gov.in/supremecourt/2020/11006/11006_2020_33_1501_22077_Judgement_19-May-2020.pdf (Arnab Ranjan Goswami )

IMHO we should not be using any of these middle names based on court docs. Or call your favorite reporters and ask them to change the name on articles. -- Eatcha 14:47, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

@Eatcha: Well the middle name of the subject seems contentious and it is better to not add it without consensus, but the info that he has a son and is named Che is correct and was reliably sourced. Perhaps you didn't check it properly (you have to click on "read the full article" tab midway in the article). Restored it. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 16:12, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Ofcom's penalty
UK's broadcast regulator, Ofcom, fined £20,000 (twenty thousand pounds i.e. approximately Rs 19.73 lakh) to Republic TV for broadcasting content involving “offensive language”, “hate speech” and “ abusive or derogatory treatment of individuals, groups, religions or communities”[1]. However, Repulic TV had issued an apology for total of 280 times between 26 February 2020 and 9 April 2020, at all hours of the day[2].But thier request was dismissed. When did you started adding "Reception" section for a person (WP:BLP)? That's stupid. It is also a copy-paste from Republic TV. I see it was previously removed by -ink&fables but was re-added by someone without explanation. 2409:4073:49D:2B0F:F476:7B92:C544:8894 (talk) 12:53, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
- It's not necessarily against WP:BLP to have such a section, though I don't think you should have both a "reception" section and a "controversy" section. It's sourced material – although exclusively negative and does not appear to be in good standing of WP:NPOV – so I don't feel comfortable just removing it all through a simple edit request. You may, however, argue you point more and try to establish consensus for the removal of the section. ‑‑Volteer1 (talk) 20:54, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
