Eminem sales:

Not to discredit this Nigerian article here, but there is something wrong over the 40 million worldwide albums+singles sales

Article: 115 million albums and 100 single worldwide,in US he sold over 50 million album and over 42 million single.

Eminem official site: 115 million albums worldwide, 42 million tracks and 49.1 million albums in the United States Source

In the United States: Soundscan sales 45,160,000 million (6, June 2014). Yahoo Chart Watch - Source plus the 8 Mile Soundtrack album sales 4,922,000 million ( [FROZEN]It’s the first soundtrack to a theatrically-released movie to hit 3M since 8 Mile, which has sold 4,922,000 copies since its release in 2002) - Yahoo Chart Watch - Source Total albums sold: 50,082,000

- 100,000,000 (Albums sold worldwide) minus 50,082,000 (Albums sold in US) = 49,180,000 sold albums WORLDWIDE, this amount passes easily the 40 million albums+singles sold worldwide according to that article, leaving the amount of singles sold worldwide uncovered.

100,000,000 albums sold worldwide + 42,000,000 singles sold in US (very likely to be outdated) + 8,900,000 singles sold in United Kingdom as 18/10/2012 (outdated) Official Charts - Source

Total: 215,000,000

So counting the albums sold worldwide and only the singles sold in US and UK, the worldwide total sales given by that article is clearly highly inaccurate

Dawn Scott death

WP:DENY; KahnJohn27 has been blocked for sockpuppetry

Eminem's sister-in-law Dawn scott died. I added details about her death and also some personal details that she was a drug addict and homeless since 2014. SNUGGUMS seem to think the addition is unnecessary. I'll like to ask how. KahnJohn27 (talk) 21:39, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Because this isn't a page on Dawn Scott, Kim Scott, or even the Scott family. What happens to his in-laws (or ex-in-laws in this case since Eminem and Kim divorced) isn't really relevant here. Snuggums (talk / edits) 23:05, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
@SNUGGUMS: I added only a few details that were imoortant. See the article about El Chapo, deaths and arrests of his family members or ex-family has been reported. And Dawn Scott is the sister of Em's ex-wife and mother of his adopted child. You can't decide what's relevant or what goes into the article. Is there any policy that prohibits about adding about a family member's death? KahnJohn27 (talk) 23:13, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
@SNUGGUMS: If it's ok with you then I'll reduce the content and only add the sentence "On January 19, 2016, Dawn died, apparently due to heroin overdose." KahnJohn27 (talk) 23:18, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
What WP:OTHERSTUFF uses isn't relevant here. Such details would be better for an article on Dawn herself, Kim, or someone else in the Scott family. Adding it here would be excessive detail on family/ex-family, and potentially WP:UNDUE weight. It would be better to include deaths of people from Eminem's "official family", so to speak, like his parents or half-siblings. Snuggums (talk / edits) 23:21, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
@SNUGGUMS: I just pointed out an example. Divorce from his wife is of little consequence since she is still related especially since she had lived with him for a lomg time earlier and is the mother of his child. This article isn't about Proof (rapper) either but there's a whole section about his death and he was just musically associated and was a friend. From your comments, it seems that you're deciding yourself what will go and what won't. You cannot do that. As I asked you before, is there any policy that prevents from her death being added? KahnJohn27 (talk) 23:41, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
Like I said, WP:OTHERSTUFF is not the focus. As for policies, the first thing that comes to mind is WP:UNDUE, which says not to give excessive detail to aspects of a subject within an article. I hadn't noticed the section on Proof before you mentioned this, but that doesn't really belong here either and is better for his article and the Recovery album article if anything given the songs about him that are included. I will remove that. Don't worry about me being "selective". Snuggums (talk / edits) 23:50, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
Now removed. It didn't belong here at all. Snuggums (talk / edits) 23:54, 21 January 2016 (UTC)
@SNUGGUMS: I cited the El Chapo article as an example. The people at that atticle don't seem to think there is anything wrong in adding deaths and arrests of Chapo's family. are removing and adding as per your wish while the discussion is going on. None of it is excessive as it is related especially Proof's death whivh had an impact on Eminem. I don't worry about you being "selective". You are not the master of this article. As you have not provided any policy that doesn't allow such a thing to be added, I am reverting your move. I won't revert again after this, I'm not interested in going into an edit-war but please don't take it upon yourself to decide what can be here and what cannot be. KahnJohn27 (talk) 00:52, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

@SNUGGUMS: Also I suggest to seek a consenus about this issue. The only problem I see is relevance to the article, whether it is due or not. Such a thing is debatable so I'll suggest a consensus to solve this. KahnJohn27 (talk) 01:04, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

I never said I was "the master" of this article. Also, just because one article includes something doesn't necessarily mean another one should. See WP:OTHERSTUFF for more. Dawn's death isn't really relevant here, and neither is Proof's. It's not like either of them affected his career or anything. Additionally, the key word in my statement regarding due/undue weight was potentially. Snuggums (talk / edits) 01:17, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
@SNUGGUMS: It seems you can't understand my comments. I never said that you made such a statement. When I said "you are not the master of this article" it was in reference to your actions. And as many times I've said the El Chapo article is an example that there's nothing wrong in adding about their deaths, that's it's not against the policies, not that we should do as they have done in the article. But anyway, as I've said earlier I can shorten about Dawn's death. You still haven't answered about that. Will it be ok with you if I shortened the details and then added them? KahnJohn27 (talk) 01:32, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
I am against including it at all for the reasons previously stated. What El Chapo uses isn't relevant to what other articles should or shouldn't include per WP:OTHERSTUFF, and we shouldn't include things here solely because another article does. More than anything else, it's WP:Too much detail to talk about her death, which isn't exactly within this article's WP:Scope. On another note, you don't have to ping me in every response; that's just overkill. Snuggums (talk / edits) 01:43, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
I ping you in order to make sure you know that I've messaged you. Besides if I ping you or not is my decision and is useless to this topic. And your comments are basically same as before. We're going over the same thing again and again. This discussion is going absolutely nowhere. The only way to solve this debate is to seek a consensus. I'll suggest including about both Dawn and Proof since they're both about including deaths of people closely associated to Eminem. Do you agree to take a consensus? I'll be ok if you want to start the consensus yourself since I'm short on time though I do hope you accurately mention both our reasons. KahnJohn27 (talk) 01:59, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
If this was Kim's death, I'd say maybe since he was actually married to her and is more often associated with him than Dawn is, and I very much do understand your reasoning for inclusion, but I really don't agree it would be of any benefit to mention Dawn or Proof's deaths even briefly. It's simply not relevant enough to include within the article. They detract from the article's main focus. Snuggums (talk / edits) 02:10, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
@SNUGGUMS: Did you read what the comment said? I asked whether you wanna take a consensus of other users? KahnJohn27 (talk) 02:18, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I did read it. Other users are free to comment. Snuggums (talk / edits) 02:25, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
@SNUGGUMS: I actually had a Rfc kind of consenus in mind so as many people as possible give their inputs, if it was a simple consensus then I wouldn't be asking you if you want it. I'm going to start an Rfc about both Proof and Dawn about this issue, this will also provide an example of what to do in cases like these. KahnJohn27 (talk) 02:33, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
No RFC needed, just let users comment here as they please. Let's not make this more than it needs to be. Snuggums (talk / edits) 02:35, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
Rfc is for getting more and proper inputs and to know what to do in a similar issue. It's the only solution I see for this issue. KahnJohn27 (talk) 02:42, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
A better idea in this case would probably be asking people at WT:WikiProject Eminem since those editors will likely have a good sense of Eminem's life and a better sense of what to include/not include than those unfamiliar with his life. Snuggums (talk / edits) 02:50, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

@SNUGGUMS: That project's talk page has barely been active in years so I don't think it is wise to start it there. KahnJohn27 (talk) 03:45, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

Should info about deaths of Proof and Dawn Scott be added and if yes, then what in form? (RfC)

The following discussion is an archived record of a request for comment. Please do not modify it. No further edits should be made to this discussion. A summary of the conclusions reached follows.
Closing as void, giving that the main proponent has been blocked, and others seem to have lost interest. --GRuban (talk) 17:02, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

I had recently added about the death of Dawn Scott to the article. Dawn Scott is the biological mother of Eminem's adopted daughter Alaina and twin sister of his ex-wife Kim Scott. However SNUGGUMS removed the details of her death. I readded it but he removed them again. His reasons for not letting it add are that she isn't her family member as Eminem had divorced with Kim, details of her death are WP:UNDUE or WP:Out of scope of the article and this is not an article about Dawn or Kim or Scott family. Also he removed about a sub-section of Proof's death of the the "Personal life" section from the article even though the section was more about how Eminem responded to his death. I however reverted his edit. Proof was the best friend of Eminem and associated musically as he was member of his musical group D12. SNUGGUMS has cited some of the same reasons for removing the section of his death: it is WP:Out of scope or WP:UNDUE, this isn't an article about Proof and the info about songs of Eminem's album Recovery dedicated to Proof should be in the article about that album.

My reason for keeping the details about both Proof and Dawn's deaths are that I think their deaths are relevant and DUE to the article as both of them were closely related to Eminem, the subject of this article and I don't think there's any policy that at least explicitly prohibits from adding about their deaths. Dawn Scott is especially very closely related as I've already said she us biological mother of Eminem's daughter and ex-sister-in-law. Also I  had cited another reason to SNUGGUMS about adding details of her death, I gave the example of El Chapo article where deaths and arrests of El Chapo's family members and ex-wives are mentioned. So atleast Dawn's death should be mentioned. However SNUGGUMS refuses this saying we don't have to go by what's done OTHERSTUFF. Proof was best friend and member of Eminem's music group D12. Additionally as I already said the sub-section about Proof's death was more about Eminem's reaction to Proof's death.

This issue seems complex to me and the discussion between us two basically kept going back-and-forth over the same thing. I offered to reduce the amount of details to just one sentence "On January 19, 2016, Dawn died, apparently due to heroin overdose". However he didn't agree. The discussion has ended up going nowhere and that's why I've created this RfC in order to receive input of others including those who haven't been involved with others. Additionally, I think this might also serve as an example if what to do in similar cases.

So my question is: Do you think the deaths of Proof and Dawn Scott should be added to the article? And if yes then in what form? KahnJohn27 (talk) 03:46, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

Discussion

Sorry for making it so long but I wanted to provide a proper and detailed explanation. KahnJohn27 (talk) 03:49, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

A full-blown RFC really isn't needed as it only makes this bigger than it needs to be. Also, I said potentially undue, which isn't quite the same as simply undue. Snuggums (talk / edits) 04:01, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
You added 'potentially' later on. Besides I've already stated the reason for RfC, won't state it again and again. KahnJohn27 (talk) 04:20, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
UPDATE: I just came across the policy that would discourage including these sorts of things; WP:What Wikipedia is not. See the sections WP:NOTMEMORIAL and WP:NOTNEWS for details. Snuggums (talk / edits) 06:43, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
Proof's death should not be restored to the page as per WP:NOTMEMORIAL. Though it is notable, it does not warrant inclusion on Eminem's personal page. Meatsgains (talk) 18:23, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
@Meatsgains: @SNUGGUMS: But the section about Proof's death is not even about Proof and his death, if you try to read it carefully it is about the "effect of Proof's death on Eminem". And I think it is important to keep the effect/impact it had on Eminem and his music. KahnJohn27 (talk) 20:36, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
  • No, not really; it didn't have that much impact. Yes I did read it and I still say it doesn't belong. The "personal life" section is already rather bloated and we don't need such detail in it. Snuggums (talk / edits) 20:51, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
@SNUGGUMS: The article talks about the impact of Proof's death on Eminem and his songs and how he responded to the death, I don't see it as unimportant. Of course some of the details about Proof's death are too excessive and shouldn't be here, those can be removed. But except that, the other part of the section deals with it's impact on Eminem. It isn't long at all, in fact it is brief especially compared to other sections of the article. KahnJohn27 (talk) 23:46, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
Any detail on how it impacted his songs is better for song and album articles than a bio page. I also checked the reference used, and the only song about Proof that it mentioned was "Difficult", so I removed the others since we can't have unsourced/poorly sourced content in an article per WP:No original research. While it is true that there are longer sections present, that doesn't justify including this one in the article. Snuggums (talk / edits) 23:59, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
Proof's death may have impacted Eminem and his lyrics to a few songs but anything more than a passing mention would be WP:UNDUE. I agree with SNUGGUMS, that this information would be better suited on the album's page, where it can be discussed in greater detail. Meatsgains (talk) 03:13, 26 January 2016 (UTC)

@SNUGGUMS: The text about Proof's death was too much detailed and was irrelevant to the article. It didn't belong in the article in the first place. So I've shortened it now. KahnJohn27 (talk) 00:49, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

That's what I've been trying to tell you all along. In fact, there shouldn't even be a section/subsection on it here to begin with. Snuggums (talk / edits) 00:54, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
  • Include up to a sentence about each - Summoned by bot. I don't really understand why you need a whole section on Proof's death. Nothing in there makes it sound like it was particularly notable in Eminem's life. For example, if he fell into a deep depression after the man's death, and changed career paths, then I'd get including a section. But it doesn't sound like that. Many people have friends that have died, but that doesn't generally warrant a section on Wikipedia about it. As for the part about Dawn, I think it's more relevant, but again, it looks like too much detail. The info should be about Eminem, not about his associates. I think both can be included, but only up to a sentence about both. One sentence doesn't hurt and it seems relevant to who he is. FuriouslySerene (talk) 14:50, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
@FuriouslySerene: @Danielklotz: I think that's a good solution. The details about their deaths should remain very short. But what do you think about the effect of Proof's death on Eminem? Do you think details about him attending his funeral and songs of his album being dedicated to Proof should be kept in the article? KahnJohn27 (talk) 20:47, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
A short paragraph with a couple (or few) sentences) seems appropriate to me. Otherwise, WP:Undue. 7&6=thirteen () 20:55, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
OK, in the case of Proof's death, two sentences. ;) "His friend Proof died. He attended his funeral and dedicated x number of songs on his album Such-and-Such to him." Something to that effect seems fine and appropriate to me. Good thought. -- DanielKlotz (talk · contribs) 21:18, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

@SNUGGUMS:, @Meatsgains:, @FuriouslySerene:, @7&6=thirteen, @Danielklotz: I've just shortened the info about Proof's death further and removed irrelevant content. Now the only circumstances of Proof's death the article mentions are his date of death and that he was murdered. Also, I've added about Proof's death leading to reconciliation between Eminem and Royce da 5'9" and reformation of Bad Meets Evil. Please let me know what you think about these latest changes to the section I've made. KahnJohn27 (talk) 14:33, 3 February 2016 (UTC)

Better than before, but I wouldn't give this its own section in "personal life"; better integrated within the "Recovery and Bad Meets Evil reunion" section. There's also no need to talk about his funeral. Snuggums (talk / edits) 15:53, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
@SNUGGUMS: The sentence about the funeral describes Eminem attended it and eulogized Proof. That's why I haven't removed it though I've always thought of it being unnecessary long. However I'll shorten it and remove unnecessary mention of names of other artists. KahnJohn27 (talk) 17:09, 3 February 2016 (UTC)

@SNUGGUMS:, @Meatsgains:, @FuriouslySerene:, @7&6=thirteen, @Danielklotz: I've also shortened the paragraph about Proof's funeral recently, now it only contains text that is related to Eminem such as him attending it and eulogising Proof. KahnJohn27 (talk) 17:16, 3 February 2016 (UTC)

His funeral still doesn't belong here to begin with. People to go funerals of family and friends quite often, and there isn't anything noteworthy about his attendance per WP:NOTNEWS. Snuggums (talk / edits) 17:54, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
@SNUGGUMS: They certainly do, but not every close one is as famous as Proof and it is very rare for a funeral to be attended by thousands of people, especially when some of the people themselves are very famous. But then again we should go by consensus and the only thing people agree to keep is his death, and Eminem tributing a song to him. If the consensus is against including the funeral by the time RfC is over, we'll remove it. KahnJohn27 (talk) 20:17, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
With these most recent changes, I think it's in good shape. This certainly belongs in the article, since Proof was Eminem's closest friend and Eminem himself delivered a eulogy at his funeral. I made minor additional changes to the wording to tighten it up further. Most importantly, I didn't think it was necessary to specify the date of the funerals, so I removed that. I don't know that it's in the most ideal place in this article, but I disagree that it should be moved to the "Recovery and Bad Meets Evil reunion" section, since the murder of Proof took place years earlier than the period covered in that section. -- DanielKlotz (talk · contribs) 23:57, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
Being friends doesn't in itself mean he should/shouldn't be in the article, though. Just saying. Neither does giving a eulogy. Having a whole section/subsection dedicated to his death is simply undue weight. Snuggums (talk / edits) 00:06, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
I get what you're saying, and I definitely agree it doesn't warrant its own section. Personally, though I'm not at all invested in the subject of this article, I do find this information/story an interesting note in his biography. -- DanielKlotz (talk · contribs) 01:55, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

@SNUGGUMS:, @Meatsgains:, @FuriouslySerene:, @7&6=thirteen, @Danielklotz: Added about You're Never Over from Recovery bring a tribute to Proof along with source. Please share your thoughts about it. KahnJohn27 (talk) 10:08, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

I think the current version of the article looks fine. Good changes that highlight why these events are noteworthy enough to be included. 7&6=thirteen () 12:40, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
It might be better for the album article so this article doesn't delve too much into Recovery songs, but either way, please don't lump everything on Proof into its own section/subsection and the funeral is still needless to mention here regardless of how publicized it may have been or how many period attended it per WP:NOTNEWS. Snuggums (talk / edits) 14:14, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

UPDATE:@SNUGGUMS: I've checked WP:NOTMEMORIAL again. However I've come to the conclusion that it does not say deaths of non-notable people shouldn't be mentioned. This is what it actually says, "Subjects of encyclopedia articles must satisfy Wikipedia's notability requirements. Wikipedia is not the place to memorialize deceased friends, relatives, acquaintances, or others who do not meet such requirements." Therefore it clearly seems to me that the policy is only forbidding creating memorial articles or separate memorial pages for non-notable people. It is not forbidding mentioning the death of a non-notable person in an article of a notable person related to them. KahnJohn27 (talk) 19:12, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

Dawn most definitely doesn't meet notability requirements, which is why I cited WP:NOTMEMORIAL. It indeed would discourage creating a separate article for her. There still is no good reason for even mentioning her death here when she doesn't even warrant her own article and whatever relationship (obviously platonic) they had wasn't really something he was particularly noted for. Having family connections (or former connections in this case) is not in itself a good reason to talk about her here. Proof's death has more merit given the Bad Meets Evil reunion (and he actually has his own article), but definitely shouldn't have a separate section or subsection dedicated to it here. WP:NOTNEWS also states that even if a person is notable, events involving them aren't always noteworthy. Proof's funeral and Dawn's death aren't worthy of inclusion per WP:NOTNEWS. Snuggums (talk / edits) 19:29, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
@SNUGGUMS: Then that is your own opinion, not what the policy states. As I said earlier, there seems to be no policy that forbids from mentioning the death of a non-notable relative in the article of a notable person. Whether it is relevant or not, should be left up to a debate and consensus. They both were closely related to him and especially Proof's death had a good impact on Eminem and death of a notable subject like Proof is always considered noteworthy. That's why only the consensus can decide whether to include them or not as it's up for debate. KahnJohn27 (talk) 20:27, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but "good impact" just doesn't make sense. Since mentioning a non-notable person's death (who hadn't even been a relative by marriage since 2006 given his divorce from Kim) can be viewed as memorializing them, I mentioned WP:NOTMEMORIAL. Either way, WP:NOTNEWS still applies, which states Even when an individual is notable, not all events they are involved in are. For example, news reporting about celebrities and sports figures can be very frequent and cover a lot of trivia, but using all these sources would lead to over-detailed articles that look like a diary. Snuggums (talk / edits) 22:17, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
@SNUGGUMS: UPDATE#2: I think you've misinterpreted more policies. WP:NOTNEWS is for articles about "current events" not articles like that of Eminem. Here's the whole lead section of the policy to which everything in the section is related, "As Wikipedia is not a paper source, editors are encouraged to include current and up-to-date information within its coverage, and to develop stand-alone articles on significant current events. However, not all verifiable events are suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia. Ensure that Wikipedia articles are not:"
Clearly you are using the wrong policy here. KahnJohn27 (talk) 04:01, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
You've also misenterpreted WP:OTHERSTUFF. The policy says that you cannot make a convincing argument "solely" based on other articles. However, I never used the article of El Chapo as the sole and only reason for including deaths of Dawn Scott and Proof. Clearly, my arguments and including the deaths of Dawn and Proof don't breach any of the policies which you have claimed them to do so. KahnJohn27 (talk) 04:09, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
I was not misinterpreting it at all. I used WP:NOTNEWS to prove the point that not everything involving a notable person is worth including in his/her article. The quote I gave is from its fourth bullet point, which is saying not to go into trivial details. In short, her death is too trivial to include. "Breach" might not be the right word, but my main overall point is to not bloat this article with needless details. Proof can be mentioned briefly, but again not his funeral (better for his own article), and he certainly doesn't warrant a separate section or subsection. Snuggums (talk / edits) 04:19, 13 February 2015 (UTC)
@SNUGGUMS: UPDATE #3: I've re-read WP:OTHERSTUFF and clearly you've mistaken what it means. The policy only prohibits from using other articles as the sole reason to keep or delete an article. The page of the article is actually about Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions. First para of WP:OTHERSTUFF says: The nature of Wikipedia means that you cannot make a convincing argument based solely on whether other articles do, or do not, exist; because there is nothing stopping anyone from creating any article.
Clearly this is about only deleting or keeping articles. It is not about using other articles as a reason not to "include something in an article". Hence, there is nothing wrong in me citing El Chapo's article as a reason for including Dawn and Proof's deaths. My arguments and inclusion of deaths of Dawn and Proof clearly do not breach any of the policies you have claimed them to do so. KahnJohn27 (talk) 04:38, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
Regarding the WP:NOTNEWS bullet point, I never "thought it differently" from the others, I was just stating where the quote was from. WP:OTHERSTUFF might not specifically mention maintaining (or removing) something from an article, but the same general spirit and principle are what I was using. Even if not mentioned in that page, citing El Chapo isn't really a solid justification for including something. The reason I say not to include/exclude something solely based on what other articles contain (or lack) is because people oftentimes do that in a misguided attempt to improve an article when in fact it actually ends up being a net negative change, particularly if the articles they cite are in poor condition. @SNUGGUMS: I've read the 4th bulletin point, and it says not all trivia related to a notable person should be included which I agree with. However, I don't think the deaths of Dawn Scott as a mere trivia or irrelevant detail seeing as to she's so close to Eminem and mother of his daughter however this can be debated. Again it all comes back to the sams and only question, whether it is relevant (WP:DUE) or irrelevant (WP:UNDUE). That's why a consensus should decide upon it. KahnJohn27 (talk) 04:56, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
Being close to someone is not in itself a solid reason for including their deaths. Neither is her being the mother of anyone. Snuggums (talk / edits) 05:12, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
For you, not for me. KahnJohn27 (talk) 06:02, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

NOTICE: KahnJohn27 has been blocked for sockpuppetry, so this RFC is really void. I am going to be bold and remove lots of the unnecessary detail that the user has inserted per WP:DENY. I furthermore looked into this which doesn't explicitly say or even suggest that Proof dying led to the Bad Meets Evil reunion. The other citation, "SOHH", I'm not sure is really credible to begin with. His death therefore has no meaningful value here and is better for his own article. Any detail on song dedication is better for song and album articles. Sorry to everyone who found this to be unnecessarily dragged out. Snuggums (talk / edits) 03:39, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Image

Should we use the 1999 image in the infobox? It may be well over fifteen years old, but it is of much higher quality than the 2009 image currently in the infobox. MB298 (talk) 05:29, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

@MB298: No. I don't see any real problem in the detail of the present infobox image. And the Eminem in old one looks pretty young, the current image is more closer as to how he looks now. KahnJohn27 (talk) 20:49, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
@KahnJohn27: It's just that the current image is of low quality and perhaps another, recent image could be featured instead, with the current infobox image put later in the article. MB298 (talk) 00:27, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
@MB298: If you do have a recent image that is more clearer, then do use it to replace the current one in use. KahnJohn27 (talk) 09:59, 3 February 2016 (UTC)

Errors

"Eminem heard his first rap song ("Reckless", featuring Ice-T) at age nine on the Breakin' soundtrack, a gift from Debbie's half-brother Ronald (Ronnie) Polkinghorn. When Polkinghorn committed suicide ten years later, Eminem stopped speaking for days and did not attend his funeral.[9]"

Eminem was 11 when the Breakin' soundtrack was released in the spring of 1984, so he could not have heard it when he was 9. Breakin' was not a gift from Ronnie, who, though technically his uncle, was just two months older than Eminem and his best friend. As Eminem has said, Ronnie "put him on to Breakin'" and played the cassette tape of Breakin' for him. Eminem never said it was a gift.

Ronnie died in December of 1991, 7 years after Eminem heard Breakin', not 10 years later.

The errors come from the Rolling Stone article: Bozza, Anthony (April 29, 1999). "Eminem Blows Up". Rolling Stone (New York City: Wenner http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/eminem-blows-up-20091105

Homophobes

Why does this keep getting removed?

Several years later, Eminem was accused yet again of using homophobic words in his lyrics, and explained "I don't know how to say this without saying it how I've said it a million times. But that word, those kind of words, when I came up battle-rappin' or whatever, I never really equated those words..."[1]

Eminem did an interview in 2017 with Vulture magazine where he delineates that his method for picking up men is to use the popular homosexual social media platform Grindr. [2]

Personal Life

Why does this keep getting removed?

In the book My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem, his mother stated that he has struggled with bipolar disorder throughout his life. She said it worsened after his ex-wife Kim Mathers gave birth to their daughter Hailie.[1]

in January 2018, for the first time in years, Eminem footage depicted him kissing an actress from Shades of Grey. [2]

It's accurate and we'll cited. Lilevilo (talk) 14:07, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

  • I don't see anything wrong with including bipolar disorder, but the kissing bit is meaningless trivia not at all worth mentioning, especially without a known name or any official confirmation of a relationship that's more than a brief fling. Snuggums (talk / edits) 14:27, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

It's useless to add the Kissing encounter since it was just a kiss and Eminem has not commented on it yet.Maybe it's just a pointless fling.

8 number 1 billboard albums

In the article it says Throughout his career, he has had 10 number-one albums on the Billboard 200, however billboard has stated that he only has 8 number 1 albums and they were consecutive, and his other 2 albums did not reach number 1. They aren't counting compilations and soundtracks as albums. The Eminem show came out May 2002 and 8 mile came out oct 2002, but it was not considered in his consecutive achievement nor was the Hits album, which came out in 2005, but Encore was considered for 2004. Is the article considering the hits and the 8 mile soundtrack as his albums?[1]

The next day, in Warren, Michigan, he was arrested again for assaulting John Guerra in the parking lot of the Hot Rock Café when he saw him kissing his wife.[240][241] Eminem recreated the Guerra assault in "The Kiss (Skit)" on The Eminem Show. According to several sources, including:

The man Eminem assaulted at the time was not named Guerrera, but Guerra. The name "Guerrera" appears in the lyrics to Eminem's "Sing for the Moment" as he could not use his real name due to a mediation agreement he had signed during the lawsuit. Milersky (talk) 19:17, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

In the section about Encore, Eminem's name is spelled wrong. "Enimem was ranked 58th in Bernard Goldberg's 2005 book 100 People Who Are Screwing Up America.[85]"

Also, in the Relapse section, it erroneously states that "We Made You" was the album's first single, but "Crack a Bottle" was the first single off of Relapse.

Update: my mistake. Turns out "Crack a Bottle," despite being released in February 09 was considered a promotional single and not an official single (source: https://web.archive.org/web/20100215005307/http://universalmusic.com/artist-news/eminem%E2%80%99s-new-album-%E2%80%9Crelapse%E2%80%9D-drops-in-may-%E2%80%9Crelapse-2%E2%80%9D-later-this-year)

Millenial?

I don't think Eminem is representative of the Millenial generation. He was born in 1972 which places him squarely in Generation X (for what it's worth). Mcdopper (talk) 15:45, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

Angst of the millenial?

Folks, I'm sorry and I don't want to pit one generation's angst against another, but the music and lyrics of Eminem don't reflect the characteristic angst of any generation other than the one he is squarely a member of himself. Please consult the Wikipedia entry on generation x characteristics, the birth of hip-hop, his influences, his family life and background.Generation_X http://www.generationxpose.com/2005/03/eminem-voice-of-our-generation.html https://www.onthisday.com/people/generation/generation-x

I'm sorry to harp on this, but I think it needs to be re-addressed.

Thanks Mcdopper (talk) 19:47, 30 June 2020 (UTC)

Kidfays

Charlie Adolfo Nhassavele, professionally known as Kidfays is a South African Rapper, Singer and Songwriter born 15 March 2001 in Matola, Maputo - Mozambique. He started his career on 2021, since his first single titled "LMA" released in 25 September 2021. He calls himself Kidfays after his friends saying that he had a baby face. So, instead of "Baby Face" as a nickname, he preferred "kid face" so that he could make it exclusive, like, kid face = kid fays; Kidface = Kidfays. Kidfays's first single titled "LMA" got 5 streams in Europe: 1 Stream in France (on Deezer) and 4 streams in Germany (on Spotify). Kidfays (talk) 20:26, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

Compilation Albums? Can we add a section underneath collaborative albums for his compilation ones? Like Curtain Call, Shady XV, Curtain Call 2? (ShadyXV can be labeled similar to collaborative such as saying "with various shady artists", also I believe it's disc 2 that has the hits). With him now having 3 compilation albums, I think it's reasonable to have this section added, if you think otherwise, please let me know?

Also noting, the discography page labels shadyXV as a collaborative album but the wiki page for shadyXV says compilation album. The shadyXV wiki page should say it's both a collaborative and compilation album. Thanks! AustinVD (talk) 20:04, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

Battle Rap

I don’t know where else to put this.I think I have figured out the whole battle rap song. In the beginning Clearance says he does not want to be the one Eminem commits suicide to. In the middle Eminem says he does live in a trailer with his mom and all his other problems and admits he is white trash. He then says Clarance went to private school and had a nice life, he then tells Clarance to tell the audience something they don’t know about him.

Well this is what I think happens; they now know Eminem went to private school because that is how he knows Clarence went there. So he tells Clarence to tell the audience something they don’t know about him. In order to do that Clarance would have to explain what a messed up life Eminem had, maybe explain he wet the bed, had no dad, mom on drugs, everything.
This would reveal that Clarance was actually a jerk and the audience would not support him, so either way Eminem wins and Clarence looses. I don’t know if this is obvious to everyone.
Suicide is or has been a problem in private schools, again Clarance mentioned it in the beginning.
These schools do help poor kids go there and they do get a good education, which would explain how Eminem is so talented, it takes intelligence to rap and sing like him.
The end he looks scared and I know the look very well. I thought it was the look of seeing an unfurnished trailer and thinking of leaving your kids there when you leave for work in the morning. They look like they will go up in flames when you shut the door behind you and there really are a lot of sex offenders in some parks, they want to rent to single parents anyway. It’s terrifying.
Then it hit me what I was missing, beginning made me realize he is admitting he was in private school. It’s the look of suicide and a trailer. I have gone to private school elementary and Jr high on scholarships. Not high school, that’s to expensive.
Elementary and Jr high are practically free at some schools, the poorer and more at risk you are the more they do.
I was made fun of a lot and I have lived in a trailer as a child and then went back as an adult to a trailer court to find a place to live with my kids in an emergency. I explained above what that was like.
I googled “Did Marshall Mathers go to Catholic School. There is an article from 2009 that says there is a question as to where he went to school in elementary. I wish he would explain this. Not many people would understand it.
They might think he is lying about his upbringing because he went to private school too. I’m explaining I do not think he is. This whole story is possible. 2601:603:4FF:5250:B5E8:51F4:B3FF:108B (talk) 03:06, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

Not to say that the "Early life" section looks like a mess, let's recognize that some paragraphs should be swapped. Although a rewriting of the section would be best, reorganizing it would make it much more comprehensible.

Current paragraph order :

"Mathers was born..." / "As a teenager..." / "As a child..." / "Eminem's home life..." / "At age 14..."

What it should be instead:

"Mathers was born..." / "As a child..." / "As a teenager..." / "At age 14..." / "Eminem's home life..."

(n.b. birth information is already stated at the beginning of the article and in the facts grey box so it's no real use in this section) 90.247.75.37 (talk) 20:54, 2 May 2023 (UTC)

Asperger's

In his 2013 song Wicked Ways, Eminem reveals a possible Asperger's diagnosis:

Guess I got a way with words, I could get away with murder

Ever heard of Asperger's? It is a rare condition

It's what you're suffering from when you simply don't care if it's an

Eighty degree day and there's no frickin' air conditioning

And you can't see b- the hair is frizzin

Cause you got the windows up, blaring the system in your Chevrolet Prizm

The devil ain't on a level same as him

Picture someone who revels in straight masochism

And imagine him giving an adjective an a- whooping

So bad they should put his a- in prison

A word bully, I verbally abuse verbs like he did something to me personally

Used to get bullied, so I cut class and ditch it

Now I bully rap, I'm the sh-, f- (sniff it)

Is this allusion something that should be added to the "Personal life" section of the article? 2A02:C7C:EC31:4200:59C9:9476:A4B6:4CE9 (talk) 09:02, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

IT was simply just some vandalism that took an hour to remove. ― Blaze WolfTalkblaze__wolf 15:32, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

States Eminem died December 10th (its December 9th)

So someone edited his page and added that he died on December 10th, yet it’s December 9th. 190.181.212.79 (talk) 15:09, 9 December 2023 (UTC)

I've reverted it as it's vandalism and a violation of WP:BLP. ― Blaze WolfTalkblaze__wolf 15:13, 9 December 2023 (UTC)
but eminem isn't dead? Bonugg2 (talk) 20:06, 10 December 2023 (UTC)

Eminem Forntite Outfit

Someone needs to fix the article and add the fact that he now has his own FN (fortnite) outfit. Check his X profile: he's literally posted it there. 69.156.199.98 (talk) 16:10, 11 December 2023 (UTC)

That's not something that's notable enough to include in the article. Basically everyone is getting a Fortnite skin at this point. ― Blaze WolfTalkblaze__wolf 16:24, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
Him having a Fortnite outfit isn't a good enough reason to add it. Iron Man/Tony Stark has one, he doesn't have a paragraph on HIS article saying he does, no Marshal doesn't need one. Babysharkboss2 was here!! (Talking Head's) (Goo Goo Dolls) 14:51, 12 December 2023 (UTC)
okay i guess that's fair. thank you! 69.156.199.98 (talk) 15:04, 13 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello, I would like to change something in the part "1997–1999: Introduction of Slim Shady, The Slim Shady LP and rise to success". Could you please change the text where Eminem is performing with Proof from "Eminem and Proof performing in 1999" to "Eminem and Proof performing in 1999 in Munich"? Thank you very much. In collaborations and productions, the first paragraph should have Rihanna linked as other artists on that line are linked. B123r123e1234 (talk) 01:28, 4 June 2024 (UTC)

To specify further that he has 2 adoptive children, and 1 child he made. I would also like it if Alaina or 'Lainey' was mentioned. 82.132.184.142 (talk) 15:01, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
