Not really sure why those are featured so prominently in the article. Is there any reason why it shouldn't be worded a bit more neutrally? Nomader (talk) 22:37, 1 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Change "Pritzker is a supporter of abortion" to

"Pritzker is a supporter of a woman's right to choose to seek . . . " or something like that. I don't think anyone really "supports abortion" per se. Narumdr (talk) 23:51, 6 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

Bar Mitvah deleted

edit

Just for the record, I think that the location of his (anyone's) bar mitzvah is too personal, so deleted it; I then mistakenly wrote that I did so as seeking a more NPOV (after having forgotten to note it at all, being actually the previous edit's deletion. J. B. PritzkerJB Pritzker – "J.B." are not the subject's initials, therefore it is not technically correct to list him as such. His name is stylized as "JB" Pritzker. I propose that we move "J.B. Pritzker" to "JB Pritzker" and leave a redirect at "J.B.". StrikerforceTalk 20:59, 7 January 2019 (UTC) --Relisting. SITH (talk) 21:50, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Character limits wouldn't matter here. I'm referring to how his name is displayed on the account bio, as well as how it is displayed on his campaign website. It would also not surprise me to see his gubernatorial website display "JB" rather than "J.B.". StrikerforceTalk 14:35, 10 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

*Support The official State of Illinois website lists him as "JB" not "J.B.". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.133.87.128 (talk) 19:31, 14 January 2019 (UTC) Striking duplicate comment by same IP address. Reywas92Talk 20:52, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

Based on the photo of JB signing his name “J.B” earlier, I rescind my support. Flop453 (talk) 23:25, 14 January 2019 (UTC)Reply

That doesn't address the elephant in the room. Why does someone named Jay Robert use the initials J B? Never mind he periods. I can't find anywhere that addresses that obvious question. Venqax (talk) 21:22, 22 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
Because the answer is obvious, and does not need discussion. It stands for "Bob", which is a synonym for Robert. ~Anachronist (talk) 00:17, 23 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Birthplace

edit

Can someone find a reliable source for Pritzker's birthplace? The article now claims with no proof that he was born in Atherton, which is in fact where he was raised. However, it previously said he was born in Santa Clara County, located several miles to the south. Atherton has no major hospitals, while Santa Clara County does. PerhapsXarb (talk) 08:34, 15 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Pritzker was born at the Palo-Alto-Stanford Hospital Center in Palo Alto, California. The astrodatabank.com website is an astrology website that collects birth certificates and according to this website, his birth certificate says he was born in Palo Alto, California. Isn't Atherton PART of Palo Alto? MaynardClark (talk) 00:38, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply
Atherton is not part of Palo Alto. Atherton is a separate town located in San Mateo County, California, and is adjacent to but not part of Palo Alto. Although they are close geographically and share some similarities in terms of demographics and lifestyle, they are separate municipalities with their own government, schools, and services.MaynardClark (talk) 00:46, 10 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Second wealthiest ever, after Mike Bloomberg?

edit

Are we seriously making no mention of Donald Trump? I know there is some debate over how much money he had when he took office, $8 billion (what he claimed) or $3 billion (what skeptics have claimed), but surely he was plausibly wealthier than Pritzker when he took office. (Forbes estimates he was worth $3.5 to $4 billion.) And how about Nelson Rockefeller, a billionaire in 1960s dollars? I'm not sure in which year he first was a billionaire, but even if it was $1 billion even in 1973, that's $6 in today's money. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:8806:1000:1E7:1162:D03F:48D8:B5A8 (talk) 15:22, 27 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

It needs a citation, but Forbes estimates that Pritzker is worth more than Trump, yes. And the sentence says it's not taking inflation into account. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:36, 27 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
It is deeply, deeply misleading to not take inflation into account when making wealth comparisons across decades; the claim should be removed. --JBL (talk) 15:55, 15 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Nerd217's suggested photo

Andrew nyr accused me of edit-warring, but I suggest he look at the page's history first. Anyway, I thought I should initiate a discussion here, since another fellow by the name of TDKR Chicago 101 would also like to change the photo. I dislike it because it does not look serious. Wikipedia is neither a tabloid nor a satirical publication. Regardless of what editors think of the subject of this article, there ought to be a serious photo. I agree that the older one before TDKR made the change was not great, so I picked this one. Nerd271 (talk) 15:57, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

  • Comment: The user was edit warring with user:TDKR Chicago 101 over which photo in the infobox. I requested the page be protected (which it was) and this user continued changing the photo. I left him an edit warring notice and requested that he obtain consensus on the talk page before continuing. This is not the first time the user has been accused of edit warring going as far to have investigations opened at WP:AN3 with 2 separate instances of blocks. Thanks, Andrew nyrtalkcontribs 16:30, 12 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

COVID-19 Response

edit

Over the past week, Illinois has been second in COVID-19 deaths, and has had the highest per capita death rate of any large state. Several times in the past month, a new record has been broken in deaths[1]. This has attracted considerable attention from the media[2], and the COVID-19 section should be updated to include this, as seems to have not been changed since early March.

New suggested photo (December 2021)

I would like to offer this photo as a suggestion for a replacement of the current photo. This photo is his official portrait, and his face is more clearly visible. This photo is also more serious than the one currently being utilized by the article. aaronneallucas (talk) 01:31, 15 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

This might work. As far as Commons is concerned, this is free. Taken in 2021, this looks a lot more official and satisfactory for portraits.

Terrible photograph

The portrait photograph shown on this page could not be more unflattering and I suspect comes from a negative campaign ad. Replacing the photo with official portrait

edit

I echo the sentiment above that the current picture used across Wikipedia looks awful. This is an official portrait from 2019. It is a work of the United States Department of Defense and is therefore in the public domain. I suggest replacing JB Pritzker portraits across Wiki with this official and higher quality one. 沁水湾 (talk) 06:11, 7 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

J. B. PritzkerJB Pritzker – Largely similar to this discussion, it appears as though Pritzker stylizes his name without any periods. I can't judge if it meets MOS:BIOEXCEPT to the letter, but his official website and social medias do not use periods, so WP:ABOUTSELF could apply [1][2][3]. It also seems like his name is most commonly used without periods in reliable sources, see The New York Times [4], Chicago Tribune [5], and Politico [6], for example. Forbes [7] is the only current source I can find using periods for his name, though without a space. It does look like most sources prior to his gubernatorial run used periods, only beginning to drop them in the years since, so this could perhaps be treated as a name change. estar8806 (talk) 19:56, 15 November 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Sceptre (talk) 20:46, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
