Semi-protected for a cricketer
editThis shows that Wikipedia is slowly now against it's own theory of open and it is behaving like a publication house with controls. Controversial topics might be protected but if it goes for a cricketer then many on internet who proclaims that Wikipedia is losing it's credibility get's justified. I wish if vandalism can be used to stifle open then almost every country with few example of anarchy should go for autocracy. Still time to think else in a vast internet with tons of articles around and 5G speed this will auto-collapse with mutually self appointed editors. Hisotry has taught many such lessons but some fails to learn. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.255.220.106 (talk) 04:28, 27 June 2022 (UTC)
- This page is semi-protected not extended protected, u just need to log in and do 10 edits to edit this page. what happened to Arshdeep Singh page must not happen to any cricketer page, it is necessary to protect pages. Rajeshwarr Singh (talk) 07:29, 27 October 2022 (UTC)
KL or The GOAT?
editI see that this article has been moved from KL Rahul to Lokesh Rahul.
As far as I know, the man is referred to as KL more often than he is referred to as Lokesh. ESPNcricinfo refers to him as Lokesh in the header of his profile, but as KL just about everywhere else on the site.
The BBC also refers to him as KL most, if not all, of the time:
http://www.bbc.com/sport/cricket/scorecard/ECKP90159
http://www.bbc.com/sport/cricket/scorecard/ECKP90160
Similarly enough, M. J. K. Smith was and still is more commonly known as just that, than he was/is as Mike Smith (though ESPNcricinfo refers to him as Mike in the header of his profile).
So, should this article stay as Lokesh Rahul, or should it be moved back to KL Rahul?
Bluebird207 (talk) 22:38, 21 August 2015 (UTC)
- As an undiscussed, controversial move, I believe that it should be moved back to KL Rahul, and then someone can request a move so that there is a proper discussion about it. Joseph2302 (talk) 08:35, 23 August 2015 (UTC)
@Joseph2302, Bluebird207, Harrias, PeeJay2K3, and Lugnuts: Hello every body. I had checked India's Official Cricket web site of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) bcci.tv for Rahul. Because he is Indian cricketer, I just found only Lokesh Rahul, I could't found KL Rahul at ongoing SL Vs IND Series and also at Team India.

edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: no consensus. Reasonable arguments from both sides, no consensus that the proposed title is the most common name in reliable sources. Worth revisiting in a six months or so I'd imagine. Jenks24 (talk) 01:44, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
KL Rahul → Lokesh Rahul – All the articles shows his name as Lokesh Rahul, like ESPN, Cricbuzz, Cricket Archive, bcci.tv, Yahoo, Team India Official Squad are shows Lokesh Rahul. Once upon a time (upto 2015 Indian Premier League) all showed as KL Rahul, now all are change to Lokesh Rahul. So why not we also change the article to Lokesh Rahul. - Support per sources. I don't see any problem with piping to KL Rahul when the situation calls for it though. – PeeJay 07:38, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose for now. As I said, he is still referred to as KL elsewhere on ESPNcricinfo (including in the report of the conclusion of India's most recent Test), and on the BBC website. Bluebird207 (talk) 08:34, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
- Nevertheless, his profile on the Cricinfo website does list him as Lokesh Rahul. – PeeJay 12:50, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
- Oppose for now. IMO, KL is still more common than Lokesh, but this may change in the future. South Indians often use just initials and not their expanded forms. V. Anand, K. Srikkanth and J. Srinath were all known by their initials early on but as they became famous, their initials were expanded as per the tradition of most of the world. Tintin 17:22, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
- Comment See here in Yahoo, referred as Lokesh Rahul only, here at second Test report from bcci.tv so many times referred as Lokesh Rahul and very few time only KL Rahul, at NDTV Sport alao referred as Lokesh Rahul only, at the Star Sport also referred as Lokesh Rahul many times and few times as KL Rahul Here. Srinu523 (talk) 10:26, 26 August 2015 (UTC)
- The plot thickens...
- Fox Sports Australia, like the BBC, still refers to him as KL.
- However, the Guardian newspaper in London, the Sydney Morning Herald, the New Zealand Herald and South Africa's Sport24 all referred to him as Lokesh when reporting on India's most recent Test.
- So I think we can all agree that references to him as Lokesh have been increasing in regularity in recent times. But will they become more common than references to him as KL?
- It's certainly quite likely that the two will become equally common - a bit like with MS/Mahendra Singh Dhoni, or (here in the British Isles) with former Irish horse racing jockey AP/Tony McCoy. And if that happens, then moving this article to Lokesh Rahul might be a better idea than keeping it as KL Rahul.
- We'll just have to wait and see. Bluebird207 (talk) 16:02, 26 August 2015 (UTC)
- Strong oppose It's "KL Rahul" on The Hindu, Times of India, DNA India, NDTV. If we are using Cricinfo profile as the source for naming cricketers, then why is it JP Duminy and not Jean-Paul Duminy? Anyway, it's "KL Rahul" on the rest of Cricinfo too. 117.192.186.241 (talk) 11:26, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
- Support by all the sources. 117.228.152.137 (talk) 15:24, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
- Support by all the above sources. He was refers and more known as Lokesh then KL increasing in regularity in recent times. Narahari23 (talk) 09:20, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

K in the name stands for Kannur
editI request the users not to repeatedly change the name from Kannur Lokesh Rahul to Kannaur Lokesh Rahul or Kannanur Lokesh Rahul. It is mispelled almost everywhere, not to mention sports sites to academic sites. His father's Bio-data in NITK, Surathkal website, where he works as a Professor, cites his father's birthplace and native as Kananur in Magadi Taluk, Ramanagra District, Karnataka.http://civil.nitk.ac.in/sites/default/files/faculty-CV/Bio-data_KLN.pdf. The fact is it is Kannur while misppelled as Kananaur in the file. See: http://www.mangalorean.com/cricketer-k-l-rahul-visits-shri-kukke-subrahmanya-temple/

- As published in an article in Udayavani, a reputed Kannada News paper daily, Rahul's ancestoral village is known by both the names Kannur and Kananur. Refer this link. Rahul himself pronounced it as Kananur in the video. watch here ~ Irrigator talk 07:43, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

Kananur Lokesh Rahul
editSo there is a lot of circular referencing going on here, and K.L Rahul is being reported as Kannur Rahul by many Cricket websites. His real name is Kananur Rahul and not Kannur. This is his late father’s curriculum vitae. [1]
Notice his place of birth ‘Kananur’. Kannur is a different place in Kerala and is not related to K. L Rahul who is a Kannadiga.
Crick Buzz [2] seems to be the only Website that has got it right, the others seem to be picking up from wiki and repeating the mistake.
@Shurpanakha: : Done Thank you very much for pointing it out. Well, even cited source of cricinfo mentioned Kananur. Winged Adult (talk) 03:59, 23 August 2021 (UTC)

KL Rahul → K. L. Rahul – Per naming conventions and MOS:INITIALS 141.72.239.107 (talk) 19:33, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
- Strong oppose - in cricket the initials by themselves are traditionally used, without punctuation. A quick scan of the references for Rahul's article show that he is consistently referred to as KL rather than K. L. It is, to all intents and purposes, his WP:COMMONNAME. POV of 'Commercial endorsments and brand' section
editI have placed a POV section template here. After reading it, it becomes evident that it is not written from a neutral point of view. @Kpddg:, I am totally agree with you, nearly all the articles about Indian cricketers have this type of peacock wording, it should be removed and whoever doing this should be warned. Please modify several subsection titles:
- 2018 IPL Season ==> 2018 IPL season
- 2019 IPL Season ==> 2019 IPL season
- Captaining Kings XI Punjab and 2020 IPL Season ==> Captaining Kings XI Punjab and 2020 IPL season
- IPL 2021 Season ==> IPL 2021 season
- Joining Lucknow Super Giants and IPL 2022 Season ==> Joining Lucknow Super Giants and IPL 2022 season
Common nouns in section titles shouldn't be capitalised, so "season" is correct, not "Season". 49.198.51.54 (talk) 08:47, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

Excessive detail
editReading this article, one thing that stands out to me is the excessive focus on both minutiae and trivia. It seems like far too much routine information (he scored this many runs from that many balls) is included, without regard for the significance of the information for a general audience. Wikipedia is not Wisden or Cricinfo. Focus on the defining details rather than trying to be comprehensive - see Sunil Gavaskar for an example, which is more effective at conveying the key information rather than using excessive detail. 92.40.217.85 (talk) 14:45, 9 October 2023 (UTC)
