Deletion of the name of cheater

edit

Hello LH7605 (talk · contribs) could you please explain what is your reasoning that you remove the name of the cheater? Wiki wise, the real name of the cheater and the nickname used by the cheater is clearly referenced very well in WP:RS. Thank you!SunDawn (talk) 11:11, 16 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hello SunDawn (talk · contribs), thank you for reaching out. I base my argument on section 3.7. of WP:Bio (see here: WP:BLPNAME). It states:
"Caution should be applied when identifying individuals who are discussed primarily in terms of a single event. When the name of a private individual has not been widely disseminated or has been intentionally concealed, such as in certain court cases or occupations, it is often preferable to omit it, especially when doing so does not result in a significant loss of context."
In generall, I think this is a really hot topic, that as the text mentions, included even "death threats to him and his family". Ok, those threats were pointed towards Levy Rozman but I think that mentioning the real name of a cheater (who himself is not relevant enough to get a wiki-page for himself) could actually backfire and the heated crowd could turn against him. Furthermore, I don't see that not naming him would be a "significant loss of context". I hence see no benefit in naming him, only potentially damages. What do you think? Best, --LH7605 (talk) 11:33, 16 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Hi LH7605 (talk · contribs), I can agree with your statements concerning using his real name, as omitting it would not resulting in loss of context, though Indonesian mainstream media have covered his real name extensively.[1][2][3].
However, I think if we also omit his chess.com nickname (Dewa_kipas) it will result in the loss of context of the case, as it is the unique "identifier" for this particular case. Thank you.SunDawn (talk) 15:18, 16 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
I also saw that Indonesian mainstream media covered his real name but I don't want to replicate their policy. (personally think the wiki-intern policies as stated in WP:Bio are better when it comes to name privacy). However, I understand your point that omiting the chess.com username would actually make the article worse. Would you agree on the following: including the chess.com name but leaving his real name out? Would you be willing to work that in? Best, LH7605 (talk) 15:41, 16 March 2021 (UTC) PS: ping SunDawn (talk · contribs), what do you think? LH7605 (talk) 19:17, 16 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Agreed, I will not put his real name but I will put his chess.com nickname. I will work that in. Thank you. SunDawn (talk) 01:35, 17 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Elaborate on cheating controversy

edit

The cheating controversy paragraph feels like it misses a few details, namely the evidence that Dewa_Kipas had over 99% accuracy (something literally impossible for humans to achieve) and that the 3 chess match stream of Dewa_Kipas and Irene Kharisma Sukandar is the most viewed chess live stream ever. It feels notable enough to at least warrant a mention. KieranStanley (talk) 19:34, 1 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

@KieranStanley: There was some discussion about how much of this info to include at my talk page - I personally have the view that this article should be about Rozman himself, and any info besides that strict qualifier belongs on a separate article about Dewa_Kipas. However, if other people feel that the info should be included in this article and there are sources to support it, I suppose the info ought to be included. AviationFreak💬 19:40, 1 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
@KieranStanley: totally disagree. This article is on Rozman, and should remain being an article on Rozman only. If you feel the cheating match is relevant enough, create an own page on the incident. Best, --LH7605 (talk) 19:52, 1 April 2021 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, the article has enough details about the controversy as-is (which is a single paragraph). ~EdGl talk 22:54, 2 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Note about FIDE ratings

edit

To clarify, FIDE ratings, the official ratings used for this article and any other internationally notable chess player, are only officially updated at the beginning of each month (for example, see coverage of the official update from June 2021). Rozman's rating in the article should only be updated when his rating card is updated which should be at the beginning of July. See WP:CHESSRATING Qwaiiplayer (talk) 18:30, 23 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Rozman going for grandmaster

edit

With this edit, https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Levy_Rozman&curid=66577693&diff=1039659978&oldid=1039654020, editor @: removed additions to the article about Rozman dedicating himself towards going for his grandmaster title on the grounds that it was "Trivial information". In the spirit of WP:BRD I am soliciting opinions.

Despite the prodding from many of his fans, Rozman had previously said multiple times that he had no interest in becoming a GM due to the amount of dedication such an accomplishment would require. That he had a change of heart was exciting news to many of his supporters.

This is not "trivial" because chess is his life. This announcement marked a change in his intentions not only for his career as a chess player (meaning he will be returning to regular "over the board" play) but it also served as an announcement of a significant amount forthcoming content for his channel. For a chess player and a professional YouTuber, this announcement of Rozman's was FAR from "trivial", and for any follower of Rozman's, this is big news. If this is really "big news", SaltySaltyTears, then it should be easy to find coverage in independent reliable sources. Content sourced only to his own YouTube videos is inherently promotional and non-neutral. Also, Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 01:47, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
There is nothing "crystal ball" in the edits that I added to the article. If you mean, in my comment above, how he will be returning to 'over the board' play... that's the only way he can become a grandmaster is by playing "over the board" but the point is moot because it's not part of my edit. Likewise with his announcement of future content. SaltySaltyTears SaltySaltyTears (talk) 02:13, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
For any topic on Wikipedia, what's worthy of inclusion is what has received coverage in independent reliable sources. If it hasn't, there's not really anything to talk about, trivial or not. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 02:06, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Fair enough, y'all convinced me. I'm no longer in favor of adding the material. SaltySaltyTears (talk) 02:20, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

How to get Total Views of a channel in Twitch

edit

I obtained the total views from this website : https://twitchtracker.com/gothamchess/statistics

Is there a way to get it directly form twitch itself, like how we get it from the about section in youtube - https://www.youtube.com/c/GothamChess/about Spharish (talk) 08:08, 12 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Better sources that Levy is still the most subscribed chess Youtuber

edit

Currently the article just compares Levys subscriber count with certain other chess YouTubers and comes to the conclusion that he is the most subscribed YouTuber as he has more subscribers that them. This is most likely correct. However, this ignores the theoretical possibility that another chess YouTuber exists with more subscribers. I know that it is highly unlikely that such a YouTuber would exist without anyone of us knowing about them, therefore I will not remove the info. However, it would be better for the verifiablility and therefor quality of the article if we hat a direct source that states that Levy is indeed the most subscribed chess YouTuber at this point, as the current sourcing is a borderline case of Original Research. Unfortunately, I do not know of any such source, so I cannot fix that myself. 22:28, 19 November 2022 (UTC)

Impartance that his parents are Jews?

edit

User:69.112.121.81 keeps inserting that Levy's parents are Jews. First of all, this in not sufficently sourced, as the given source only states that Levy hinself is a Jew, not his parents. Assuming that his parents are also Jews from that source alone would be original research and should not be in the articel. And second, I don't see how that is important. He dose not seem to be an activly religous Jew. He produces and uploads vidos on Saturdays, which would violat Shabbat rules if he were and there are no sources I know of that he is religous in any way, so even if his parents were Jews, it apperently did not have much influence on him and therefor is not important for his biography. 16:32, 4 May 2023 (UTC) Gial Ackbar (talk) 16:32, 4 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

As there was no respnce in over a month, I will now remove this. Gial Ackbar (talk) 09:03, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Just to add my two cents, I agree, unsourced material like this should be removed if there's no source to be found. Qwaiiplayer (talk) 13:02, 15 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

Road to Grandmaster from April 2024, until now

edit

Levy Roseman's current rating is 2370, (AI says 2363), due to his recent performances in two major tournaments Levy has recently competed in. In the Madrid Festival, Levy came in second in the GM level of the tournament scoring with a 5.5/9 and beating some Grandmasters. In the New York tournament just finished there was no room left in the GM, so Levy had to play in the IM level. Levy won that tournament with 8/9. Levy says that his chess coach, Arturs Nieksans has been helpful in his play. Grandmaster Hikaru has also been beneficial to Levy. Easeltine (talk) 12:51, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Cool story, bro. Marcus Markup (talk) 13:13, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Also, the man's name is "Rozman". I know certain types on-line think it's hilarious to intentionally misspell his name, but this is not reddit. Marcus Markup (talk) 13:15, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
Okay, but until the site actually updates his rating (which is every month I believe), then his current 2348 rating will stay. Also not sure how the rest is relevant. Procyon117 (talk) 16:16, 19 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
